Do you do any other sports apart from riding? What would you do if you didn't ride?

As title really, thought it would be interesting to see if anybody has time to participate in any other sports or hobbies and if so what?

I don't really have any other hobbies, but I do love sport. I find that the 3 below help me keep my fitness up inbetween events and over the winter.

Cycling
Running
Swimming

I gave up hockey, netball, gymnastics, cricket and dancing to ride so this is what I would be doing if I didn't ride.

What would you do if you didn't ride?

Thoughts on a postcard please :D :p

What would I be doing if I didn;t ride?

er.....getting fat. :p

No I wouldn;t really. Lots more other exercise I should htink. I struggle to fit a lot else in but do swim at lunchtime, and cycle.

Gave up running as my knees couldn;t cope with that and riding!

Used to play hockey a lot so would probably get back into that.

Oh, and I'd be rich of course!!

I used to swim, dance and play the flute AND ride.

Then I started to have to fund myself and dropped everything apart from riding, don't regret it though :) the money I would have spent on the other things meant I could enjoy riding more often so it was worth it for me.

Rowing and riding :)
it is so exhausting doing a 4 hour rowing session and then riding on a saturday but so worth it!
I cycle too to keep extra fit

I dont do anything other than ride.

However, if I wasnt a horsey gal I'd be a petrol head - I'd love to have got into go karting, and when I drove a Formula Ford car a couple of years ago I thought wey hey! I could do this! :D

I used to ski to a high level, then I damaged my tendons and ligaments in my ankles in a bad fall. Now my skiing comprises of pottering to the nearest mountain cafe!!!!!!!!! I didn't start riding until after I realised I wasn't going to be able to ski (race) anymore, as my ankles couldn't take it and i had lost my bottle a bit. Hence I decided to go into riding!!!!!! But due to always having my ankle injury I have learnt to adapt, so I can't do the light seat for long periods of time, unless I wear giant ankle supports, and I have the sprenger stirrup irons which are a godsend!

I also used to do Gymnastics and I was on my school swimming team (back in the day!)

I used to do a bit of running, but my ankles aren't strong enough to deal with the strain, so now I only ride, which TBH is all I have time to do, and as I spend all day "doing horses" I don't feel I need to do too much to keep fit! I do do pilates which isn't so much for fitness, but to help my riding!!!!!

I cycle. But I wouldn't describe it as 'sport' in my case, it's transport! And I do it in dresses and heels. Erm, that's it.

I run about 4/5 times a week for fitness and attempted weight-loss and ski a couple of times every winter - keep thinking about scuba-diving, as there can't be many other massively expensive sporting hobbies!

obedience (with the dog) lol
photography
socialising lol

im having time out from riding as its £20 for 1/2 an hour. im buying my own in 2 years so id rather save up £80 a month and use that towards buying a horse. :)

I used to play basketball (we were national champs at school levels), played on school, regional and provincial teams but gave up in favour of the ponies when national team trials were coming up. Played rugby for uni and province but tore both Achilles on my 2nd provincial under 21 match and decided it was a bit too risky along with all the other sports I pkayed at the time. Played soccer and tennis for school and uni. Tetrathlon and ahletics too to national championships/on national teams as well as parish and county gaelic and camogie.

So, sports I have played to competitive levels:
Camogie
Soccer
Rugby
Athletics
Hockey
Tennis
Tetrathlon
Basketball

Now I barely have time for the horses but recently ran my first 5mile race (having previously been a shorter distance x country runner) and play the occasional game of tennis.

I do that too! (including the 'in dresses and heels' bit - how else is a girl supposed to get to a formal dinner! ;))

Before I owned the horse I used to do Kempo Ju Jitsu as well, would love to still do it but I don't have the time or money. Its a shame because the breakfalls I learnt there have certainly been put to use on (well, technically off!) both the horse and bike!

I was in a GB junior sailing squad but gave up because I enjoy riding way more :D I sold my boat a few months ago and was finally able to buy a horse (with the help of my boyfriend :) ). I also play hockey for the University 2nd team, occasionally run (when I'm late to turnout the horse), I cycle to the yard at Uni, and I do Pony Club Tet (shooting, swimming, running and riding). I'd love to get into modern pentathlon.

Running & cycling. Since i sold my horse i've definitely got fatter and it's harder to keep weight off, it kept me fitter than I realised with all the mucking out and walking backwards and forwards to the field/tackroom etc carrying stuff! I've also taken up pilates in an effort to get the stomach muscles back than i'm sure i had when i rode nearly everyday!

Still rather be riding though.

scuba diving
water skiing
skiing
fencing
annnd that's it.. and including horse riding they're all solitary sports.. i hope that's not saying something!!

ohh Im a proper pony club girl at heart-tris and tets are my thing :).Also fenced alot when I was younger. Made it to the national tet champs and got a clear round the open course-would love to do pent now :)

So.. go on and do modern pentathlon. Fabulous sport. Surely there is MP at your uni.I used to do pt to pt ,tet, pent and I now occasionaly coach pent shooting.

Can you shoot? It does beg the question 'why aren't you doing the ESPC tet on the 26th and 27 June'?!! Shoot practise this Friday 5.30 - 6.45!

Was this directed at me? :) Sorry if it's not but if it is then the answer to that question is I can shoot however I am at Rackham BE on either the 26th or 27th, otherwise I would have given it a go. :D

Yep, it was - sorry I should have said! I guessed you would have something eventing-wise on, never mind, maybe another time.

I do pole work! (in my horses field!)

Plus I've just started training to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats. I used to captain my university lacrosse team and played hockey.

I do kickboxing, pole dancing and running, all to keep my fitness up for my riding! it's struggle to fit it all in, but I just about manage if I run before work in the morning in the summer when I don't have to muck out and kickboxing or poledancing after I've exercised the horse in the evening after work! I also love snowboarding and try to go away once a year to do that and being that I live by the beach I reckon if I didn't have the horse I'd probably make an effort to learn to surf or I'd really throw myself into the kickboxing and possibly find another martial art as I find that's really amazing for my fitness!
would like to note that my pole dancing is nowhere near as good as the pic of the post above lol!

Phew!!!! How many people on here can do that!!

Well I'm not really riding at the moment as my girl Be is broken, and although I have the odd pootle on the old girl, Star, it is dependent on my mother being there to babysit Be. I used to run a lot, but my head and neck injury has put that on the back burner for now. Hopefully with some more osteo and the next lot of surgery to my nose so that I can breathe better, then I might be able to start again. I sure have got fat since riding and running ceased :(

BUT, I cox :D (I am the small shouty person in the rowing boat), and it is a GREAT substitute for riding as it involves lots of similar skills. It's great fun and a very addictive sport. Even with the forecast this week I shall be spending a huge amount of the next four days down by the river as there is racing on! :D

Yay, another poler who rides! I find them really complementary, lots of core strength, co-ordination and balance required (plus falling off and swearing skills on occasion!), plus the strength Ive gained from pole means that shifting haybales and all the other manual jobs are a piece if cake now!

no other sports- where the hell do you find time??

i leave the house at 6.20am for work, go straight to the yard in the afternoon and get home at 7.30pm.

by the time i have eaten and had a bath all i am good for is collapsing on the sofa! :)
