I was thinking about my little trip to Milton Keynes on Ned and I thought "Finally, I do almost everything I want to with him!"

So, do you?

I do 99% of the things I want to, the only thing missing is travelling!
I can hack alone, I can hack with other horses/people, I can jump him around a course and do in-hand!

With my not so new one, no. I'm not really doing anything that I planned to do with her yet due to her being a top class cowbag but I'm still hoping that one day we will start to have fun together. We've got plenty of time I hope.

When I bought my gelding he was my first horse. I had no ambition, all I wanted to do was ride so I managed to do that plus so much more. There havebeen things he hasn't taken too, such as hunting, but he has done so much for me in other areas that I am happy knowing we have achieved something.

Pretty much, on some level, the only thing I planned to do with mine which I haven't yet is event, since the low level unaff event I was going to go to last summer didn't come off due to landy problems and I haven't got round to getting going yet this year. He TRECs successfully, hacks alone and in company, jumps over a metre / xc / courses / stupid jumping games, is working novice / elem in the school, has played horseball, done gymkhanas, shown (I had intended to show him more, but he's too slim!) and does loads of tricks.

All I want now is to improve on what we have - L3 Trec, get out xc / ode and keep improving to elementary "proper" and beyond.

eta, that's Fergs. Done virtually nothing with Dae as he's 3 - just backed. The old lad, I reckon we did most things - played every daft game known to man and beast, hacked, long distanced, sjed up to 90s, showed at county level, xc-ed, TRECed successfully, played horseball matches and generally had a blast.

Nope.

Bought to get to the highest level the combination of us could get to (3DE if I could up my dressage skills, or failing that BS).

Claimed LoU a couple of years ago. Now she's an occassional happy hack.

I do have a probably slightly daft dream of doing Endurance with her as she has a scopey stride and enjoys being out and about.

Not everything, I'd love to do endurance and head out on my own for hours and hours on training rides, but he isn't great hacking alone (I now have a couple of routes I can do alone as long as nothing changes). I think if I can eventually move somewhere with more off road riding we will be fine, but I don't trust him not to still have a panic attack in the middle of the road. We still have time, he is only 7 and I hope to have him til he is 40!

But he has kindled a love of dressage, schooling and trick training, that I had never really enjoyed before. I'm getting to be a much better rider because of him.

pahhaha no. Taz was bought to showjump. we bought him, broke him in he sat around for a few years then I started riding him, went to his first couple of shows realised that no matter how small the jump is he wont jump at a show and didn't take him to another. he did a lot of schooling etc and having fun and then I gave him a small holiday that then turned into an 18month holiday due to lack of time and hock and back issues. he is now getting fit again to work etc and maybe start hunting next year if im feeling brave otherwise we will just carry on just doing what ever takes our fancy :)

Rio- well I haven't really owned him long enough to see but he was bought to reschool to dressage and then take him out to a few shows and see how he goes. Well we are doing well on the reschooling part and we have just bought a 4x4 so we can take him out so it just a matter of fine tuning before taking him out and about :)

yes! When I got her, there wasn't anything specific in mind, so what ever we achieve is a plus. We do what ever takes my fancy and have fun and some level of success while doing it. hoping do some low level ODE, hunter trials with a bit of jump cross thrown in for good measure this year

Bought Pip Sept 11 to do some fun XC, then continue to do some serious stuff. The first year I did SJ with her, just little local shows to get used to her and then planned to the following year get out on the XC fields. But I'm currently bringing her back into work after an injury to her coffin joint :( Will be lucky if I get onto the XC fields this year now.

My three horses

99%. Bought the horse to hack, we hack. I would like to have the confidence to hack alone, but I think that is about me, not the horse, I'm not sure.

Daughter's other horses
TB mare 1% Ah such high hopes we had for her, she does none of it, but she does eat, crap and cost money and go for the occasional hack so it's not all bad

TB gelding 75%- he has done pretty much everything she bought him to do, local sj/xc/funrides/dressage but she took a break from horses for over 6 months and he's just been hacking out with his lovely sharer in that time so he is not in the routine or mindset that he once was. Daughter now works full time in a demanding job and only has him 3-4 days a week so doesn't really have the time to devote to it that she once did though she still takes him places when she can

With my id mare yes, with my highland i will do a bit of everything (hopfully!) But mainly county workers i want to do :), my tb - not sure of my plans with her yet :D

NO! I bought my anglo as a 2yr old intending to show inhand until broken and eventually do endurance niw hes almost 5 never been to a show yet and currently being used to teach my 8yr old son to ride!!.... Proof all youngsters/arabs/tbs arnt mad!! :D

Not entirely I did have grand designs to do Affiliated Dressage and he was diagnosed with Chronic SI strain and very close although not quite kissing spinal processes about 6 months after I bought him. :(

8 years on however I have done unaffiliated up to Ele, some mini Hunter Trials, Eventers Challenge, Sponsored rides, showing and he hacks alone or in company although that took several years to achieve! I've always been very careful not to over do it and have managed to keep him sound.

He may have been able to do Affiliated but he would need re-grading for me to compete in amateur classes as was imported at 10 years and automatically gets loads of points regardless of talent and training. He was so on and off with his work and never really works properly over his back that I felt it wasn't worth the hassle and expense in the end.

He is 18 now and mostly hacks and I adore him in every way even though he can be a cheeky demanding so and so at times :) I've never regretted buying him I've just adjusted my expectations and I love him so much that I don't know what I will do when his time comes.

Nope. Bought her to get to a higher level of dressage than I have done. Realized it was hard and I sucked at it, so I quit showing around 2002, as I realized I could be stressed out and miserable for free.

We still work away at the dressage, but without the pressure of shows.

Yep! And tons more! Didn't think I'd do BE, points BD, RC teams, jump 1m20 at home and 1m5 out. Be confident enough to sail over tiger traps out
hacking plus a million other things and we still have lots more to do. And he's safe enough to plod round the lanes with me pregnant.
I just wanted a pretty, safe horse to
have fun, I was nervous of jumping a x pole when I got him. Not bad for a cheapy racer I took a punt on :D.

Way more than what I got them for :) Bought the ponies to learn to drive and they've taken me to nearly the top level and international junior stuff. As well as giving me immense fun riding, BD to elem, SJ to 80, numerous showing wins.
Big C was going to be a dressage horse, mixed success at that but he's now a driver too!

They have all meant to be PC/ event ponies and all of them have done PC and eventing :D

Can't afford to have a horse who doesn't 'play the game' though...

Yep! I have done more with my boy than I ever hoped I would. :) We have done Dressage, Show Jumping, Cross Country, Le Trec, Sponsored Rides, hours and hours of hacking alone and in company and we have had many fantastic days out hunting. I never imagined he would be such a dream to ride on the hunting field - we have crossed some pretty tricky country and jumped some pretty impressive fences. He is definitely one in a million bless him. :)

99%. I bought my horse to drag and open team chase. We have show jumped, dressaged, evented, drag hunted and compete successfully intermediate team chasing, I'm hoping to upgrade to the opens either next weekend at the Worcester or if not in the autumn season. Not bad for an 8 year old

It's so satisfying to think that she was homebred by my boss and I have started her and taken her up the levels myself.

There is one thing I really want to do with Fergs that I haven't done though... I can't say I bought him to do it, but it's an "ambition" that's crept up more recently...

I want to paint him pink...

And dress up as Darth Vader...

So I can re-enact this cake ( ) in real life:

(eta, I thought it might amuse you guys :p )

Nope, not yet. I bought my youngster to event BE but buying him as a just backed 4 year old didn't foresee the awful trouble we've had with his jumping! He's fine with any jump, providing there are no fillers...hmm. Nearly 2 years later we've done v.low level SJ (up to 2'6) XC training, HT pairs, Trec (he was actually amazing at the endurance part and came 2nd - hugely pleased!), dressage and beach rides. Hacking out alone isn't for the faint hearted, although we survive - just! And he's a complete donkey to hack in company.
I've lost my hope of eventing in the next year but we still have fun doing other stuff and I would really like to do some proper endurance - it's the first time he's been anywhere and not got stressed, just seemed to really enjoy it :)

What's stopping you? :D

Nope, only had him 9 years :o

I still dream one day of doing the hoys grade c qualifier at Bramham on him, if he'd stay sound long enough!

Pink highlighters!

No I have not acheived anything much, but life is what happens when you're making other plans so they say and only had her 6 months!

When I bought Taz all I wanted was a happy hacker, who would be fit enough to do common rides, never did I think 5 years on we would be doing dressage and showjumping, at a reasonable standard to be competitive in the classes that we compete in :) Even if we went back to only being able to hack I would still be happy
