Wondering how many do non-horse related exercise/sports?
Was thinking about how many riders do something other than riding, as it's my one year runiversary :p Run approx 3 times a week currently, but not very fast or far lol.

So what other exercise do you do? :)

Pole dancing, rock climbing, crossfit, Krav Maga, running, hoop and aerial silks. Hard to fit it all in enough to be good at any of it though!

Yes me! As a pilates teacher I am doing some form of Pilates daily but usually just demonstrating poses. However I do my own Pilates training about twice per week. I also practice Ashtanga yoga 2 or 3 times per week and do Pole fitness 1-2 times per week. Not to mention dog walking daily and riding! :)

Personally I feel it's vital that riders take as much care as keeping themselves in shape as their horse. We can never expect our horses to be balanced, symmetrical and fit if we are not ourselves in my opinion.

I used to run 3 times a week, and spend about 2 hours in the gym every day including a fair bit of weight lifting, but that was whilst Ruby was young and not up to an awful lot, i injured myself Christmas'15 so had to stop, then Ruby's life picked up and i never got back into it again, but put about 1.5 stone on so just started running again. I cannot commit myself to the gym to that degree again, so will just pick up the running a bit more!

Have started doing Zumba twice a week as don't have lights to ride after work, plan to restart pilates, try to walk on lunch breaks and fit in an occasional bike ride. Largely to compensate for all the eating I like to do!!

I ride 4-5 Times a week and aim to go the gym twice a week and sometime do yoga sessions at home before work. I think it's important to do another exercise as well as riding but my first priority is my horse. So if I have to pick between the gym or riding then it's riding as that benefits my 22 year old mare as well as me!!

I'm training for a sprint triathlon so thats swim bike and run! I also do a pilates class once a week and try and practice myself at least one other time a week :) plus walking the pup!

Certainly not! I employ my horse to do the hard work...:)

Actually I do walk with the dog a fair bit. And swim if a nice warm lake or river is on offer.

But will NEVER be found in a gym.

PS Have just Googled octopush, it sounds brilliant. I might just be tempted.

I run and weight lift in the gym but thats pretty easy as we have a home gym, lol! Also plenty of dog walking although I would love to be able to take the dog out riding with me but logistically it isnt happening anytime soon!

We expect our horses to be fit and to carry us so why wouldnt you make the effort to be fit as well!

I go to the gym twice a week, do yoga and tai chi, have just started swimming again. Can't really count dog walking these days as dog is getting old and just trots round sniffing on the rec about 3 minutes walk away!

I run 2-3 times a week, do two spin sessions and HIIT & grit plyo at the gym. I've been knocked sideways by some random wave of tiredness for the last fortnight so I'm feeling unfit!

Wow impressive lot! I do the following...

weightlifting (bags of feed and bedding)
Tug o war (pulling boots of Dd's feet / untangling rugs)
Ice skating (around the water trough in winter)
Mud running (Checking field fencing)
Hill walking (foot following hunt)
Endurance (Being a mummy with a job, horses, pony club and schoolkids)

Does that make a helpathlon?

I usually ride 3-4 times a week (typically Tues, Thurs, Fri + Sun).

Go to running club twice weekly, Monday & Wednesday. Lunge horse those days.

Run solo once or twice (usually Friday + Sunday) depending on other things. Going to do a half marathon in 2 weeks (my second) and more to follow throughout the year. May do a marathon...

Gym 2 / 3 times a week, mostly over the weekend when OH is home (he works away during the week).

It does mean late dinners a few times a week. I normally go to yard in the morning before work and get stables done (2 horses, 1 semi retired). If I fancy a lazy evening, I'll go to yard earlier in morn before work, get everything done and then I give the horse the evening off :)

I ought to ... but would rather spend more time sorting the muck heap out than go for a run. Much easier way for me to feel like i've burnt some calories!

What ? How does everyone find the time ? I work full time - an hour away from the horse (2 hour commute each day). I ride three to 5 times a week. Im up at 5am as it is, so that I can get the horse done at (try to) be at work for 8.30. Leave at 4.30 stables for 5.30. 2 to 2 1/2 hours to do the horse and ride, then home for tea and medals. Theres no way I could fit anything else in, as much as I would love to

This...would love to fit in a fitness dvd or running but I look and feel like a zombie and survive on 4-6 hours sleep a night as it is

I'm lucky enough to be on 5 day livery, and I also have a sharer otherwise I would have no chance!

I don't really. But doing 3 horses DIY daily, working a full time job & Living on a farm so always having some sort of work to do, I'd say I keep fairly fit! I'm just under 9stone and I don't tire easily, so that does me! Haha

During the summer months I do much less, but at this time of year I do try to do a bit more, at the moment I am doing a trampoline exercise class (proper big trampolines - not the little round trampet things) and a HIIT class every week. I am forever intending to add some running on top of this too, but never seem to quite get going.

During the summer I will be riding one horse before work and one horse after work, so do less in the way of non-horsey exercise then.

I'm impressed! You guys do so much exercise, how do you get time to do horses? :p Also, are you guys the weird ones who enjoy the gym? :p

I'd love to go back to netball but am afraid my ankles won't hold up for it, but I really love it! I find it difficult to do horse and exercise, my problem is the running routes round our roads is also our hacking routes, so I find it boring to do it twice in one day :P

I'm lucky, work is only 15-20 mins from yard, and yard is 10 mins from home. Get up usually around 6.45, leave house at 7.30, arrive at yard 7.40, turn out and maybe do a stable, tidy myself up, then leave for work 8.15, arrive 8.35. Then leave work at 5, at yard for 5.20, finish chores. If running then I leave at 6.30, if riding I usually get on board around that time. In either case I usually get home for 8pm or shortly after :) quick dinner, chill and in bed for 10ish. Finish work earlier on Fridays which is nice, too! I must point out too that I have no children or anything and OH isn't around during the week which probably gives me some extra spare time ;)
