. He finds it very embarrassing to be found with his 'trousers down' so to speak

My TB on the other hand is often seen 'chilling out' flat out

When they are out at night in summer I go and sit with them for a while. In winter I go round feeding treats to three ladies who choose to remain lying down when I go in.

Charlie is quite often Lying down when I go out to say good night to him, He always lets me have a cuddle with him!

I hardly ever see Millie Lying down though, She always gets straight up if I see her, the only times she has let me get close was when she has had colic!

Mine comes in from the field and has a snooze for an hour or so everyday, flat out on her bed & oblivious to comings and goings
laugh.gif
If you try and do anything with her at that time of day she falls asleep anyway, was snoozing having her feet done the other day during her "nap time" - it's a hard life being a baby

All the time. I have seen me have to change my riding plans as he is conked out and will not get up, no matter how much I push and poke at him.

Mine will often stay lying down, or will sometimes get up as I get very near, depending on what they think I may want or they think they might get eg.food

When mine was stabled I'd regularly have to wake her in the mornings from a flat out snore. She can have the big puffy eyes and be falling asleep in her breakfast! Sooooo not a morning person, just like her mum!

Many times. He goes to lie down if I put his saddle on the wall and walk off, keels over flat when I come back and I have had to tack up with him lying down and drag him up a few times. He loves to work!

At home...

And away on a riding holiday - there's Polly peeping in ! I rarely see her lying down.

I was always finding the youngster 'in bed' when the weather was nice. If you sit down with him he puts his head in your lap and loves fuss. Older horse you very occasionally will find him lying down but he nearly always gets up, if he doesn't I tend to think he's off colour.

My old mare I only ever saw led down once, which was a week before she died. She was fast asleep in the field and jumped a mile when she woke up and realised that I was there! I felt like a very mean Mummy.

My new mare however, is so laid back she's pretty much horizontal. I know that she lies down at night as I find aubiose on her back. A friend sent me this pic a few weeks ago...

And on a regular day...

Mine are often caught asleep in the stable. They will both let oyu go in and have a bit of a cuddle - in fact the boy often has to have his headcollar put on before he will get up!

My old girl I would catch sometimes in a evening when i did a late check at 10.30 ish, but often the moment she heard the key in the door she would get up. When she had laminitis she laid down a lot & allowed me to sit with her head in my lap.
When I bought my other horse she was totally laid back. Flat out on her first night & I regualary found her laying down in the day. She'd just look up & then go back to sleep.

I have only seen pickle lying down 3 times in 3 years. Once in his box, twice in the field. He also does not like being "caught" lying down!

Bailey lies down a bit and doesn't tend to get up when I'm there. He looks up at you as if to say, "what are you doing up there? Make yourself useful!" and when I sit down with him he puts his head in my lap and goes to sleep. I absolutely love that he trusts me enough to let me chill out next to him, and that he enjoys my company like this as much as I enjoy his.

My first pony was very lazy and often lying down in the field. I used to go catch him and try drag him up but he'd have none of it - then i used to just sit on him! hehe. He still wouldn't get up! He would get up when HE was ready thank you!

When my horse was at college they had as 'break' over lunch - once he got into the routine that would be his snooze time. My mum visited once and he was lying in the stable and tehre was no way he was getting up for us or anyone, that was his rest time!

If a horse is happy to lie down then it is a good sign as shows they are relaxed and feel 'safe'. There's always one 'on guard' in our field if the rest are flat out.
