Do you ever drink alcohol on your Yard?

Myself and YO had finished building a seat to go by the side of the school - so champagne and chocolates were in order.

Our dressage instructor came along, as did my OH.

Fast forward a few hours and a few more bottles (it was a very nice bench) and we put my then novice OH on her grand prix dressage beastie. Much hilarity ensued as we watched them going from passage, to one tempi changes across the school - my OH got quite upset, thinking he'd broken the horse, as he felt 'a bit wibbly'. Hehehe - good horsey :D

Yes frequently:D:D:D

Its not just because I live there either:D We have a yard BBQ and have various birthday parties during the year as well as mulled wine over Christmas etc

But that is because we are all adults who are capable of making rational descisions about our health and welfare as well as making descisions about horses/driving etc etc

1984 hasn't reached our yard yet.... and long may it continue:D

Yep, including when having friends over to ride the pony, although they are not allowed to drink whilst riding, I am allowed to drink whilst watching them try to master rising trot!

Yes.

*burns in Hell*

Yard is also home.. summertime we often BBQ supper in nice weather and have wine/beer/Pimms. Warm evenings are bliss when all is quiet so can sit out on yard lawn until quite late (west facing so sun until the very last) with a bottle in a bucket of cold water/ice.

In winter, cold days and dark evenings are made better by occasional mugs of hot mulled wine/Glühwein or hot ports after chilly hacking.

Makes us sound like alkies!

(for extra Hellfire... I smoke too!)

God that sounds just lovely, I want to do that! May just have to do it one summers day. I have had a wee tipple at the yard BBQ's but as I live 6miles from the yard walking back a bit tipsy would take an age :D

My horses are at home so yes, the occasional glass of wine/ can of cider has passed my lips but I do draw the line at being totally bagged when working them or doing any horsy jobs- best get them out of the way first but can't see the harm if you're just relaxing on the yard and don't have to drive anywhere :)

I do however draw the line at smoking...asides from the fire risk, i would not want my horses breathing in tobacco smoke. I once visited a friend on a yard where 2-3 of the liveries and yard owner were smoking and swigging out of a wine bottle in the stables where all the horses were on shredded paper bedding. Was enough to convince me that my horses would not ever be going there....

I've seen many a farrier calm an agitated horse by blowing tobacco smoke at it.

So glad others do!

We go through a bottle of wine a week (sometimes 2)... theres only 2 of us! Normally Fri & Sats for me.. but sometimes have the odd glass during the week. Other lady drinks everynight theres some wine there - I just try control my calories, she doesnt need too
