Do you feed supplements?

Just a musing after a few appointments today.

Do you feed your dog any supplements? And if you do, is (s)he dry food or raw fed?

Just getting more and more supplements these days on the new client/pet forms and more so again with the raw fed pets. Made me wonder if it's a trend to have a wider array of supplements in pets, much like what we see in horses I guess.

Not having a go at anyone. I regularly feed about 8-9 different supplements in the kennels

Chappie original for the dog, Aldi senior pouches for the cat.

The old dog is on a joint supplement.
The young one has been on various things but I'm crap at remembering to restock when they run out. Both on dry food.

Fodhla has a joint supplement, she's fed dry food.

The husky has a zinc supplement as not getting enough zinc is a thing for huskies whatever they're fed - they get skin issues
Both dogs are raw fed

4Cyte,Prokolin,PHusks,Yoghurt
Wet canned and biscuits
Hardboiled egg
Gabapentan daily
Losec as needed
Pramin,twice daily
After much trial and error and many trips to various vets/referrals,this seems to be working most of the time
His sidekick,a tiny Daxie,with what her vet describes as " Banana Bones" has 4Cyte daily,hoping to head off problems.

No supplements but no oldies and ‘just’ pets - the 9yo spaniel hasn’t realised he’s middle aged yet.

None on raw. 2 on wet, one on cold pressed, one on kibble.

She also gets metacam and a joint supplement. I did try a calming supplement for a few months, but it didn't seem to do much.

They get dry food, raw green tripe when working hard, sardines in tomatoes about once or twice a week, raw eggs at least once a week depsning on how hens are laying and eggs are selling.
Ages range from 8 weeks to 11yrs.

For full openess I feed to various dogs for various things - valerian, joint supp, lyprinol, Onychotin, omega oil, protexin probiotics, protexin pro fibre and calming cookies. Obviously not all to the one dog!

I feed mine yumove dijestive supplement, started as my lurcher has a sensitive stomach and then tried it on the terriers as they both needed their anal glands cleared frequently by the vet, they haven’t needed it since . I feed kibble with a small amount of meat as a topper or tuna sometimes .

No supplements at the moment.

Oldest dog was on joint supplement for a while but it was expensive & didn't make any noticeable difference so stopped it & got some NSAIDs from vet.

I actually find the amount of choice completely overwhelming now!

Do you find the calming cookies good? I'd love to find one that helped Poppy be a bit less anxious about the world.

Mine gets Riaflex, protexin pro-fibre and aniforte barf complete as she is raw fed (by necessity).

I tried all sorts of calming supplements on my old dog, he's nearly 14 and still a lunatic. To be fair they've never worked on me, either.

Dry for breakfast - just because he stays at my mums a couple of nights a week while I'm in the office and hers get breakfast to get meds.

Tin of butchers grain free (what worked for him as a pup after trying the "good" feeds) with a handful of mixer and a few...what are those wee smell dried fish called?.... s...s...sprats! That's it.

I do wonder if I should be feeding a preventative joint supp (got a horrible out of thr blue PM from someone on here "worried" about Broom in my care. His joints were mentioned.) or something like flax oil. Helpful advice welcome

Good Lord, that's a bit of a cheek.

Flax oil. Plant sources of omega 3 aren't as effective as omega 3 from cold water marine fish. The main omega 3 in flax seed is ALA with insignificant amounts of EPA and DHA. The body can convert ALA but does so inefficiently.

Bandit's on wet food (Butcher's healthy heart) I've tried him on other more expensive food and the various other Butchers but he absolutely loves the Healthy Heart. He also gets mackerel and he has Antinol and CBD oil.
