Do you give your farrier a present for Christmas?

Just musing as my farrier came out this morning for a routine visit and I realised I hadn’t got him a Christmas present! So I ended up adding a ‘Christmas bonus’ on the payment when I did the online bank transfer to pay him - soulless but practical I suppose...

Usually a bottle of Jack Daniels or some red wine.

I've known my farrier for 11 years, and he's great (even you discount the timekeeping LOL!)

I’m never quite sure what my farrier drinks - apart from probably everything :D - which is pretty appalling when he’s been shoeing my horses for 19 years now :o

Farrier came today, given him some bottles of special cider. Also get my hay supplier some presents too. Both keep me and my horse happy all year and I see them more often than a few other people I end up buying presents for at Christmas :-)

Not usually as he’s way better of than I am but timing this year meant that it seemed wrong not to plus he’s been good when I’ve forgotten he’s coming this year.

Gave him a nice £15 bottle of French wine. He then said something about not liking oaky wines. I shan’t bother again.

Bleugh, I feel guilty now - but my horses' feet hardly grow in winter so we've not seen him for months - plus we tend to chop and change farriers a lot, the good ones always seem to emigrate or something, so it seems a bit pointless really.
That said, bet this one will stick around for years now, and be presentless, as it would be a shame to jinx him when you've only just found a half decent one(!) :p

I don’t buy him anything. He’s an excellent farrier and is always on time but, I pay a good price for this. I always have my horse in and ready for him with feet picked out. My horse is well mannered and good to shoe. It’s just business and it works both ways. He has much more more money to than me as well :D

Nope never have, as where would it stop - trainer - feed merchant - EDT - Vet.

No I haven't. And I wouldn't unless I was particularly pally. Like others have said, where would it end? I don't get gifts for doing my job

I do get gifts for doing my job, but not from everyone, and it doesn't bother me if people don't, but obviously, it's nice when they do! I get more gifts from my older customers than from younger ones, maybe it was more common years ago?

I don’t generally I have to say.
But I did this year, a really good bottle of red - this farrier has come to me fortnightly on the weekends so that we can gradually work on my horse that hasn’t been good to shoe.

I haven't done, but always feel guilty about not doing so. He does get lots of gifts, and I've discussed it with him in the past when he's shod my horse just before Christmas and I've realised I didn't get him something, but he knows I appreciate him.

SBTS, doesn't sound like your farrier is very nice, I'm intrigued as to which one he is. I wouldn't bother getting him something again either!

No, but I meant to and I won't see him until after! D'oh!!
He's a fantastic farrier, we always have a great chat and he's a great listener. He must meet hundreds of owners, but he remembers all the little details! I might get him something and next time he comes say "Oh, you mustn't have seen it in the office!"...
