oo its coming... too quickly is you ask me... yes christmas

so i was wondering how many of you give your horses a very nice treat for christmas :o

taz has his ussual feed with carrots, parsnips, apple, few herbal treats and some fresh mint and for pudding he has a fairy cake with icing :) he likes that :)

im unsure how fussy missy is so i will have to try her as she is fussy about carrots and apples so god knows about everything else might try swede this year :)

also do you go on a christmas day ride or do you give them the day off we go out tinsle and all :) i do love riding on christmas day as its sooo quiet :o

what are you up to with your poniess this christmas :)

They just get the xmas dinner peelings, and might get a bag of carrots for the week. I think my sister made them a flapjack one year - her pony loves that - oats + sugar = bliss for him.

I might take a packed of choc digestives with me, as they get those as a treat when the farrier comes (for something to go with his cuppa) and quite like one. :)

The two natives that are out 24/7 will just get a few carrots and cuddles.

The TB usually gets a can of guiness for about 7 days over xmas :D

They normally get some carrots, and OH mare gets 1/2 can guiness (my mare doesn't like it and is rather sensitive in the belly dept so I don't risk new stuff!). Don't tend to go nuts with a load of new stuff though - I don't want a colic bill for my Christmas pressie!!

My two very good doers get a heap of apples and carrots in their feed and a drop of Guinness. No riding on Christmas day, we spend the time cuddling and grooming and then its home to snuggle up, just the four of us (and the two ferrets). Love it!

yep mine will have guinness this year, he'll open his advent calendar and have his presents! Last year he had plenty of apples, carrots and pears. Might ride early morning weather depending.

Might try the guiness this year! I normally buy a bucket of stud muffins and they have one a night between Xmas and new year! They're also partial to the odd ginger nut!!

In the words of, er,,,,,,er,,,,, oh yes me :)

Feed your Horse somthing succulent everyday, ie: Carrot, Apple, Pear, Parsnip etc. But on Christmas day I'll be giving them Turkey and Beef and then taking it off of them and reminding them that they are Herbivores and cannot eat such things :P

Mine get carrots and extra apples, tried Guiness one year and our gelding got that freaked out by the noise of the can opening he wouldn't go near the manger!

Probably not in his dinner but as he will be a 2 min hack from my house we will most likely hack home and say hi where mum will spoil him with all sorts of things, she wanted to get him an advent calander but as we are at uni she wont be seeing him untill the middle of december so she decided not to.

May give him a little guinnes to try but have never given it to a horse before.

I usually do. Last year my loan horsey got some warm porridge in his feed (small amount) with parsnip and carrots and i think i may have got some treacle. Then i hung a swede up so he could have a fun xmas day. It probably lasted about 2 minutes. :D

This years share horse, i don't know. Probably get a special treat whatever day i have her, it's nice for them to have something special but still safe to enjoy.

This is so heartwarming. On another forum the general answer to a similar post was "nothing, he's a horse".

So pleased to see that HHO is soft at heart :D

Yes mine get parsnips, pears and a slosh of Guinness.

I'm afraid my horses are fed according to the work they are doing. They have a particular diet & I stick to that. They normally have carrots /apples etc in their feed so their 'dinner' will be the same as usual.

Yes, a can of Guinness each in their morning and and their evening feeds, and some Extra Strong Mints, and maybe a few grapes and banana slices in with the usual apples and carrots. The liveries will bring their horses (and mine, bless them) treats, so they have a good day.

No, they get what they normally get and that's that.

I don't see the point, or the benefit, to be honest :o bah humbug and all that.

This ^ Why would you want to add things the horse clearly isn't used to just because it's xmas day - My vet doesn't look forward to xmas at all if he's on call with all the extra cases of colic caused by people suddenly stuffing their horses with extra food.

He'll have his same dinner as always (which has a chopped carrot or two in anyway!), but I will probably get him an Uncle Jimmy's Sugar-free Licky Thing to play with, he loves those! :)
