Do you have a 'bogey' xc fence?

I hate corners too!!Don't really think about falling but have had SO many run outs at them over the years.....mind you that is probably my fault rather than the corners

yes... trekheners. I don't mind them..but my horse hates them. He can smell one at about half mile away!!! He knows where they all hide on all the courses he has jumped.

Big oxers, cos I had a rotation fall at one breaking my jaw in 4 places and busting my knee... kinda gives me the wibbles ever since.

Suprisingly although ending up in the ditch of a trakhner a few years ago, they dont tend to worry me.

Trakehners

used to hate corners too, but thats my fault, not the horses!!

However, jumped both perfectly XC schooling so fingers crossed we are sorting it.. though big trakehners still scare me!!!!

I hate airy hangy type things. I much prefer anything big & solid.

There is a hanging log at the top of a slope before a step down to a skinny on the Intermediate course at Floors & I hate, hate, hate it. I just always imagine front legs getting left behind. Needless to say my horse popped over it like it was 2'6"!!

Depends what you are riding as to what you like. I like big, solid things preferably with a ditch in front because my horse is mega bold. I like things which back him off!

I prefer a trakehner to a plain coffin - would much rather have something for my horse to jump!

I am not a fan of corners but I think my worst bogey is anything technical which follows a flier fence like a nice log followed by a skinny on a dog-leg or similar. I get very paniced about stuffing up the second element which means I start hooking too soon over the first element, end up scrabbling to part two on a rubbish line and loose loads of time. Silly huh...I know I just need to sit back, kick on and let the fences come to me but anything like this turns me into a wibbling fool.

oh and silly things like the otter at MK - to me its scary because its not a normal, to my girl its just a wobbly log which for some reason mummy is scared of!

my bogey fence is a corner, the only time my horse has ever got xc faults has been twice last season, both 20 pens at corners on 2 different coruses, one at Prestwold which was an evil corner tight off a turn through a hedgeline and covered in bright feed bags, and once at Draycott nov in sept, he just tends to duck out last stride if I haven't quite ridden in spot on, he gets smart basically.

And last season had a HF in a big ditch hedge at BCA nov when he had a virus, but have jumped him over all sorts of trakheners and dditch pallisades since, he doesn't seem to associate it, which is good!!

I tend not to think of fences as bogey fences or ones I am particularly scared of, don't want to get in that state of mind!!

Depends on the horse. Grey horse doesn't have a bogey fence, chestnut isn't a huge fan of trakehners or things with big ditches in front.

milz88 you were one of many falling victim to the corner at prestwold I think!! Surprisingly mine was spot on over it, but he hadnt worked out what one was I dont think

...did we really need this thread before I start BEing on Friday!? GAH!!! Thanks J!!

Ive never liked steps up because I am tall and can't see where I am going but Z doesn't have a problem with them considering his performance at SLM the other day doing the 4 Int steps up that are normally jumped down! lol!

Not a fear of XC fences but thought id add this and see if anyone else experiances this also?

I Have a huge irrational fear of Uprights in showjumping!!!

Hate them, would rather jump the post and rail out of our arena than face a showjumping upright....

does all of them count :s

lol! thats me too! I've never done xc, I think its terrifing!!

When I get back into the swing of things I might have to give that jump-cross a go, looks alot safer and nicer to me!

the only horse i would ever really xc on (over proper sized fences) is my bay mare (ultimate excess) as i trust her 100% but unfortunately i dont share the same trust with the fences ahha

Fences with ditches in front (think burghley cotswold leap-i think)
Have fear that horses will "accidentally" put feet in ditch on last stride and the result in my head really isn't pretty

For us its anything remotely skinny with nothing at the sides, you know, no christmas trees or anything and especially when its off a turn. We have cocked up soooo many times, despite lesson after lesson on how to ride them. When we do ocasionally get over them first time we are amazed!! On the corner thing - I was at an event last year and brother and sister followed each other on XC and both fell at the corner which was the second to last fence - can you believe it!!!! They were both ok!

I hate with a passion anything skinny or with a nasty ditch in front of it - i don't mind the ditch under or the ditch open with nothing above it, but in front just makes it look massive and scary!!!!

Going XC next weekend so probably just totally cursed it and will have a stop at the smallest, nicest fence on course!!!

ditto ditto infact anything with a big ditch infront esp ditch upright type thingy!!

When I used to do x - country it was trakheners everytime. My horse used to hate them and after dislocating my shoulder I decided to stick to SJing

huge ditches before uprights such as Cottesmore Leap. i know to just ride at it, not look down, and to use the lip of the ditch as a great groundline for the horse, but it's not easy!
oh, and corners at 3-days, i somehow ride them really badly when the pressure's on, had a stupid 100%-my-fault run out at Windsor years ago and obviously haven't quite gotten it sorted in my head yet!
i'm more concerned by a really big square parallel in the sj though, can't stand them.

ditto, hate them - I always wonder how on earth the horse is meant to know there is a socking great hole in front of the fence.

Any fence with a ditch in front of it or under it, never had a problem with them until my mare put her two front feet in one and flipped over!

It's funny - I think you only have ditch fear when you know your horse will stop and have a good gawp at it. I never get worried if it's the big bold grey horse but my heart sinks if I'm on the chestnut because I know he's a bit chicken about them.

I thought you might remember that damn corner Kat, it was so mean, you jump a few hedges and rails, dark stuff, then bam, round the corner they see the whole event ground/lorry park and gawp at that then see all the bloody plastic feed bags!!! grr, lol
