Just wondering as I was thinking that we get our horses backs checked and ensure they are comfortable, yet us as humans will go on in pain. Horses get a better deal then they realise!! :D
Surely if our back is "out" it will have a detremental effect on our riding? Putting pressure on the wrong parts of the horse and therefore needing the horse to be checked more often?
Thoughts and experiences please!
D :D

LOL ! Yes, I don't. Currently paying for physio for a horse with a shoulder problem. I need physio for wasted muscle in one leg, so find my riding compromised.
After Madam has had regular physio, regular vet exams, transported to master farrier...there's no money left for me.
Have to make do with my own exercise programme.

Yes have mine delt with about every 6 weeks or so sometimes need a few sessions. Sleeping so much better now it is straight.

God no! My OH and I have to drive past a Chiro clinic on our way home from the supermarket and every single time he launches into a stream of invective about the effectiveness and professionalism (or lack thereof) of chiropractors and their ilk. I think it would be grounds for him to leave me if he found out I was consulting one - like an infidelity. :D :D :D

That said, he has little or no sympathy for my permanently aching, clicking, crunching back, at most a bit of grudging advice to swig paracetamol and diclofenac regularly and 'stop bloody lifting heavy stuff'...

Our physio refused to treat my friends horse again unless she went and saw a human chiro/physio. Every time she would come and sort Yorkie's back out, and my friend being wonky would put him out again, so the next time the physio needed to do exactly the same thing!

This made me laugh, my OH is the same! No sympathy whatsoever!! I have had terrible siatic (SP) pain in my back and leg for nearly a month now. Was prescribed meds and two weeks rest 3 weeks ago. Rest... is the doctor mad? How can you rest with 1 horse, 1 dog, two small children and a husband who does nothing to help you????? Consequently I am on my second course of meds and twice daily injections into my back, also supposed to be resting but again easier said then done. So my OH is not very sympathetic at all to my back pain either. And breath, rant over feel much better now!

Having had two rather bad falls in the last six months, both affecting my lower back, yes, I do.
And yes, I do find my position better for it!

Yes, Recently had a ridden assessment with a lady who does humans and horses.....horse sound as a pound, straight and level....

Me?

Knackered!

:D

She suspects I have arthritis starting in the base of my neck....ARGH! :(

Gosh some of your stories sound painful!
The reson I asked this was because a Chiropractor a while back said to me that if the riders back isn't right, so we ride crooked, it can have a detrimental effect on the horse so its just as important to have your back and your horses back done.
Most qualified chiropractors can do Humans aswell as animals.. I think I may invest in an appointment!! :D

I have a faith healer who sorts my back out whenever I'm slightly out. Usually, it's my pelvis and neck. I feel a huge difference in my riding and even walking when I have been treated. Although whenver it is "out" I don't really feel pain, just stiffness.

Last weekend I attended our Riding Clubs camp and a lady visited and gave us all a deep sports massage aimed specifically at riders. It was amazing and has left me thinking that I ought to get this done regularly, as you say, we spend enough on getting our horses sorted but neglect ourselves. So from now on, I aim to have a sports massage every 6 weeks or so:)

I never used to bother having myself checked out until this year when I felt wonky when sat on my horse. I had the physio out to look at the horses and was told they were fine. I then refused to get back on board til I was checked. I go every 3mths now.

yep - what is the point in ensuring my mares work is even on both reins, her back has no tight spots, she is muscled evenly and that her saddle fits well and (of course!) is even - if I am one sided and stiff? I see a chiro every 6 weeks (have a prob with my sacro iliac joint on my lhs, exercices and chiro is helping lessen this) and my mare has her back done every 3 months.

If I had not seen the back man I would be unable to ride and still be eating the max amount of prescripton painkiller. It got to the point I could hardly walk. So worth the 30/40 mins of crunching pushing and pulling.

if i had any money i definately would. Have spent hundreds of pounds in the past on getting my back straight again so i can stand up, sit down and lie down relatively normaly again but cant afford to keep going as much as i should!
I have also spent rather a lot of money getting no-where with rather bad chiros/physios. definately worth trying a few out, what works for one person doesnt always work for another.

Hell yes! Every one to two months - mine is an ongoing problem stemming from a fall I had at about 12 years old - the injury wasn't treated at the time. I've been to chiros, physios, McTimony, Bowen, osteos over the years - I now go to a german lady, who is passionate about the human body, how it works and how to fix it - she does whatever is necessary, and doesn't stop when I complain that 'actually, that's REALLY hurting' - just keeps going until I'm fixed. As all my muscles are very tight, she has her work cut out with me, and we're frequently in fits of giggles as she's tying me in knots!
