do you hire your trailer out?

one of the girls on yard asked me today if i'd hire my trailer to them for a big show they are at next week. i said no...and now feel really mean. they are really nice girls but just feel funny about lending something that is so expensive to someone- what if something gets broken, i would hate to fall out over it

and i presume there is some sort of insurance issue if something happened to her horse?

on last yard got into habit of taking a girl with me to shows. in the end this made my horse into a clingy screaming monster so i told her i couldn't take her anymore and she fully guilt tripped me about it and made me feel really bad- don't want to go there again....

i would imagine it would invalidate your insurance if there was an accident,
as for you taking other people horses to shows, it not actually aloud any more, you have to have a certificate to carry others peoples horses in your transport

even if you aren't getting them to pay and they have their own insurance?

i thought you were ok so long as not getting payment for it....

Is this right - my friend regularly comes and picks me up so we can go places together. I was also thinking of purchasing a trailer so that me and a girl on our yard could start going to the local TROT rides!

I dont blame you, i wouldnt lend my trailer out. it cost me a fortune. I know this sounds mean as well but when i had no transport nobody ever done me any favours. A friend of mine even charged me £150 to collect a horse that i had just purchased. you learn by your mistakes. I am now looking after myself and it will stay that way (mean arnt i)

I think you can lend your trailer (if you want to)but you would have to check with your insurers and theirs.

Nope I don't lend or hire mine out and if people want horses moved I charge them if I feel like doing it - if not I refuse - like someone else said - when i had no trailer no-one ever done anything for me for nothing thats why i bought my own.

You will NOT need a certificate if you are:

Transporting your own horse to a show for minor prize-money.
Transporting horses with a ratio of one horse per owner/handler.
Moving your horses using your own transport between pastures for a distance of less than 50km from your holding.
Taking horses to or from veterinary practices or clinics.
Transporting a friend’s horse in your vehicle for petrol money, providing no profit is involved.
A “hobby breeder”, where the income from the hobby does not significantly exceed the expenditure.

Thanks for the link - I certainly don't take my friend for granted for taking me places - I appreciate every second we spend when she takes me out and would never ask her to take me - only go if she offeres - but can understand how it can so easily happen.

QR no no no i would'nt lend my car or horses out so why would I my trailer. I also would'nt expect to be asked there are plenty of places that hire out...

well thats what i was wondering, why don't they just ring somewhere and hire one..? am wondering if its because her boyfriend is supposed to be driving - i wonder if he can legally drive a trailer?!!
