Do you horses like being in a stable? Perhaps too much?

My 15 month old is obsessed with his stable!! He comes in onto the yard on his own in the morning *only one having brekkie* and after he's finished he goes to his stable and stares longinly into it,if he's been in during the day *weather* he doesnt always want to go out despite the others having gone out, he just sems to love being in wheras my other two love being out!!

If Kelly's tied outside whilst I muck out - if I go to fill her haynets I'l come back and you can guarantee she's squeezed past the barrow and is stood in an empty stable!! She's mostly very happy to go in the field but after an hour she's at the gate shouting to come in. She then practically runs to her stable for her food.
She's 16 years old and is very much a people horse rather than a horse horse if you see what I mean!!

Yep, my girl loves her stable. She used to live out 24/7, we moved yards just over a year ago and now I get dragged in from the field, its not just for food either, she loves her stable. If I turn her out when its cold/windy/wet she is fine for an hour then starts charging around.....and around....and around until she is brought in......or trashes her field  She would much rather be in a nice cosy stable. I just don't understand it. She has turned into a Princess!!!

My horses *love* their stables!! In fact, my young horse only seems to grow in the winter when he is coming in at night!!!

Cappy loves his stable, he will bring himself in by lifting the gate off its hinges when the weather is not good. Also when we had the snow last year he refused point blank to leave the barn, However when the spring comes he loves his field and sunbathes as much as possible.

Fany hates being in a stable.

Maybe thats it he loves people, and maybe he associates it with *pamper* time :D

errr... yes. Ron will walk past the other stable with food in it to get to his, and gets grumpy if the door's shut!

I don't have to tie him on the yard as he stands with his head over the door looking in!

I can untack on the yard, and just open his door and he walks in even if his friend is going out!

I can let him into the stable, take off the head collar that I haven't really used to bring him in, and leave the door open while I make up feeds. He comes to the door of the stable and looks out but doesn't come out even when he can see the buckets!

Both of mine love being in. The pony will happily stand in all day and if I try to put her out in bad weather she digs her heels in lol - this is a pony that lived wild on the welsh mountains for years :D Horse is a wimp but needs to go out or she gets too lively to ride so I'm cruel and force her out regardless lol

My one horse Zak absolutely adores his house. He was in on box rest for 2 and 1/2 months which he wasnt fazed with at all - I mean at all never once banged or got stressed and the one day I left his door open by accident he just stood there. When the day finally came for him to go out he was intially quite excited however after 30mins he was waiting by the gate ready to come back in - which was lucky as he was only aloud out for that amount of time, but it was just how keen he was to get back inside. To be honest I don't think its a healthy relationship :-)

Both dislike stables, Marley weaves and Maizie spins round looking grumpy, only tried it for 3 weeks and gave up, they both found it very stressful, now they live out 24/7... much easier thank you

However I do kinda feel a little envious of the pleasure it must bring to make their beds snug etc in the winter and leave them tucked up for the night.

Ditto Daisy2 - would love to have snuggly beds with horses tucked in :D. But mine would much rather be out. LC will be happy wherever any other horses are, Dizz stresses in a stable unless she's very tired or hungry, Little Lad used to be a horror, but we took it steady and now he'll stay in okay if he has to, but as soon as one takes him out, he'll head at speed to the nearest patch of grass

my coloured loves his stable stands in the yard with door open if in and weather bad. if he is coming in (4.30 on the dot) he is at gate open gate straight in. If tied up outside somehow manages with his arthritic bones to spin himself into his stable while attached to leadrope... amazes me really!! the other two dont want to know about stable except for t then they are trying to break out within minutes...weave gaurds done up v quickly in winter
