equine pedigree is fascinating. my boy is a selle francais. he is by pouchka (very temperamental). his grandfather is Elf and is great grandfather is Ibrahim. so he is distantly related to big star. more interestingly when you go on the sports horse database he is related to "St Simon" who was an amazing racehorse in the 1890, who won several very big races and was extremely temperamental. I can trace him back to the three foundation stallions for thoroughbreds. I also discovered he was related to the 15 hand working hunter pony I had as a child. she also was very temperamental and related to hyperion
All of mine are registered NF. I love spending time going back and researching pedigrees.

I find this thread very refreshing in that so many folks have an interest in their horses ancestries:)

I think everyone owes it to their registered horse to learn who it is:)

I have always been a die hard trail rider and it's a sad fact that I know more about the old time Walking Horses than most of the show folks. Many of them don't know anything beyond the third generation.

I always chuckle whenever I hear someone happily crow "my horse has Midnight Sun in it!" EXCEPT for the old time Chance bloodline, all Walking Horses have Midnight Sun in them, lol

I have casually brought up the old Chance line to many "knowing" Walking Horse folks thru the years and only a few knew of the Chance line much less what it represented.

So many tips of the hat to all of you who are familiar with your horses' ancestries:):)

All Breed Pedigree is fascinating. Only 2 of my 3 horses have breeding information, and some lines die out very quickly, but I have had a lot of fun on their and can show that my shire and clydesdale are related.

I like tracing the horses that win at shows to demonstrate that they are related to my shire, which most of them are.

I think it's really cool with tb's and tb crosses that you can trace them all the way back to the Arabians. I can trace the tb ancestry of mine back centuries but not the dam ancestry.

I have two registered ponies so their pedigrees are listed. I'm not very clued up on the Connie side but those who know better tell me he is well bred. DP on the other hand has huge amounts of Arab, TB and Welsh pony in him. Makes the fact that he is a registered German Riding Pony from Wetfalia a bit of a nonsense 🤣 His sire and grandsire are both famous though.

I have pictures of some of my horses ancestors from the 1800s! This is one reason I really adore breeding being recorded.
