in your horses fields?

last year someone did sledge in one of my fields where my horses were and upset them all.

well today i got down there and found people sledging in my field (3 adults and 4 kids). They said they didnt know they werent allowed (private land), that theyd just got the snow all nice and compact and slippy! (great just what I want with horses in the field - thanks) and didnt seem bothered that there were horses in the field and that they might get upset and bolt. They said that there werent any in the field - told them that id left them in there late this morning, so id bet they were still in there. They were a bit shocked when I started clicking and all my 5 horses came galloping over!

When i told them they were trespassing and I wouldnt be liable for any damage my horses may do they soon packed up and started to leave. Then the woman got really shirty with me and said that horses needed shelter in this weather - told her they had free access to the stables if they wanted them. She then said horses shouldnt have snow on their backs - yeah thats why they are all rugged up.

so what would you have done? do you allow people to sledge in the field with your horses? granted it does look good fun

I would let family or friends sledge in the field as our horses really aren't phased by much. However, I'd be furious if I found strangers in there! If that woman knew enough to lecture you about how to keep your horses then she should know better than to get into a private field with horses she didn't know. Good on you for sending them packing.

No absolutely not.

And if I found people in my field I would tell them I was suing them for trespassing

like you family and friends are ok when im around, but i felt guilty after telling them to get off the field but dont now so thanks.

yeah the woman does like to think she knows it all. interestingly enough she didnt go and sledge in the field at the bottom of her drive, maybe she knew her neighbour and their donkeys wouldnt be happy?

yeah i bit my tongue at her comments, really couldve gone mad at her, silly cow.
she lives accross the road in a cluster of houses and obviously thinks she can do what she likes!

Definitely NOT - in my old livery the grazing was a huge 28 acre hill/pit land - every winter when the snow came the kids and adults used it like a National Park - it made the hill absolute trecherous (sp) as it was totally compact and slippery - one mare slipped and broke her hip and had to be put to sleep because of it - I ended by never putting my horse out in the snow at that yard as I was too scared she'd get hurt.

I think they may find themselves buried in the snow if I found them in my field sledging let alone telling me that they arent being cared for correctly...cheeky witch good on you for sending them packing.

Noo I wouldnt let anyone sledge in my field, just because we have some retired horses in there. But then again - there out 24/7 and love the snow - there always trying to run around in there, but I wouldnt let any "public" sledge in there as I wouldnt want them to get hurt if anything was to happen. But it is good fun as were right on a hill aswell lol xx

How awful for the owners of that mare. thats what I was thinking about my own horses - mine live out 24/7
thankfully we dont get many (and normally not this good snow), but going to make some signs and put them up.

i would never dare to go into someone elses land. they really do have some cheek some people.

she was shocked (well they all were) when i just appeared out of the blue! why is it that guys just accept it and get moving and are nice but its the woman that turn on you?
all i keep thinking is what damage would my 5 horses do to their little kids had they scared them

mine love the snow just not screaming kids that are full of excitement. my big mare was attacked by 2 children so gets very nervy and at 17.3hh+ when she bolts blind she can be scary.

It was devastating for the mares owner (in fact for all of us) as at first the break was not found so she was cross tied in her stable for a couple of initially to see if it would "heal" then she became depressed - wouldn't eat/drink etc, so she went into the vets and it was at this stage the break was found but unfortunatley she want' insured and the owner didn't have the money for the huge bill that it would have cost to have her operated on. It was all terribly sad.

As for why the women have to have a say ::::::::: don't we all !!!!!!!! lol.

We've been sledging in my field all afternoon, myself and probably 11 or so others. The first time around Suni was out in the field and she just looked at us as though we were barmey and the second time around when there were a lot of us she was in. She doesn't venture much further than her haynet in this weather so I'm sure she'll be fine - plus the amount of fresh snow that is currently falling will soon sort any slippery-ness out

There is (which I have only recently found out despite living in this village for quite a few years) a sledging field which the local children have used for 20 years plus. Walked down there in the snow last year and lots of people were sledging and there were a couple of ponies at the bottom of the field quite happy. That said, wouldn't be happy if it were mine!

No way, my field is on a byway which well used by walkers. I've never seem anyone trying it with mine, but I have seen lots of sledge tracks in other fields when hacking. Assuming they were tresspassing, why do people think it's ok to tresspass when it's snowed? They wouldn't otherwise.
