Do you let your dogs lick your plate after you've eaten?

Not on your life (it is vulgar) there is no way on earth I would allow my dogs to lick plates (just like I would not lick their bowl clean either) :eek:
They will pay interest in the dishwasher but don't actually make a move to actually touch it, (just look longingly at the lowered door):p

mine makes the most of family dinners at the in-laws in 'helping' with loading the dishwasher, much to my washing up obsessed (atm) 3 year old nephews amusement. The dog also receives plenty of table food from my OHs grandma, but you can't tell the elderly what to do! :rolleyes:

We were in a dog friendly cafe yesterday with 3 toddlers, my dog kindly leant his services as a floor cleaner and chased all the fish finger and pea floor droppings down ;)
 
If the item can go in the dishwasher which is very hot and denature all the bacteria, then the dogs can perform prewash on plates and saucepans, as long as they don't use teeth on the non-stick

This is far less an offence than the weirdos who let dogs lick their face...
 
Oh yes if the plates are very messy the dogs get to pre clean them before the dishwasher. It saves me rinsing them :D

My dogs do not beg. We have a kitchen diner and they do not sit and watch. All the leftovers go to the chickens or into a shepherds or cottage pie, so the dogs only get fat, skin, grissle and the cats get the chicken carcass dregs.
 
It depends on what has been on the plate. ready meals, takeaways and spicy/salty/creamy items no he doesnt get the plate. Home made roasts, shepherds pie etc yes he is allowed to have it

She will do it if she is left alone with the opportunity. But NO WAY would I give her a plate to eat from?!

She will stare at the dishwasher but not lick. When she was a puppy she was a nightmare for sticking her whole head in any mugs / glasses she could reach and having a drink.
 
No to licking plates, no to licking faces, no access to dishwasher. My dogs have a tendancy to indulge in coprophagia........most digusting
 
Noooo chance ! Like Alec said I have seen where that Tongue has been and it certainly won't be going on out plates. Although they go to their bed when food Is eaten, I'm another who HATES drooling boggy dogs staring your dinner out :D
 
God no way - my dogs do not EVER beg, they do not have the leftovers from my plate, they do not eat off my plate, they do NOT stick their minging little heads into the dishwasher, and they do not lick my face - yuck! I dont know how anyone can let their dogs do that :o

Oh except for Amy, who was so badly trained by Cayla :rolleyes: that she has been known to lick my face when I am not paying attention and dont jump out of range quickly enough :p:D:D:D

Nope. I have low enough standards as it is as the dogs are on the sofa and bed and are quite free with helping themselves to cuddles. They get scraps in their bowls if their are any left but no feeding from the table!
 
No to plates, but we do let them have pans and casserole dishes to clean, then they get a squirt of kitchen cleaner and a wipe out with a brillo pad they are washed properly.

They have to lie down when people are eating. They would beg given a chance, being labs, but know they are not allowed to.
 
I have no shame in admitting I let the dogs lick bowls, plates and pans occasionally. They're going to be washed any way what's the problem.

My mum went around a friend's house once, she'd been cooking in a wok, she let her dogs lick the wok "clean" then put it back in the cupboard because apparently you shouldn't wash a wok?!

Absolutely! It is a very important part of our training routine with the boys. Provided you always use a dishwasher with a hot enough wash, there are absolutely no issues with hygiene. Our boys are allowed to sit with us at table, provided they are lying down and quiet. No begging is allowed. After we have finished, they both have to sit or lie down whilst the plates are put down on the floor for them to lick. They are not allowed to move until they are given permission - the same with their food at night, they have to sit and wait quietly for their bowls to go down, otherwise they have to wait until they are quiet!

The boys respect our table as being out of bounds to them. They would never jump up to see what was up there, neither do they jump up on the work surfaces in the kitchen if there is something defrosting up there. Neither of them are thieves, and will only lick your face if actively encouraged, something that I do not like because that IS minging!! Think where their tongues have been, and I cannot put my face in the dishwasher!!

haha - that just gave me the funniest image!!

We do not allow Korben to eat or lick the plates - he knows if he waits patiently anything that is left that he can safely eat will be scraped into his bowl for him. So when we are finished he waits at his bowl for his treat - he either gets whats left on the plate or he gets a dog chew :)
 
Eww no, no, no!!! two lurchers and one will rest her head annoyingly (but rather cutely) on your lap while eating, the other will go to his bed and if anything left over they will get it in their bowls but definitely no licking of plates!

Ollie is a bit dishwasher obsessed but I keep a plant water spray on the worksurface and if he goes near the open door I only need to threaten to pick it up and he will leave well alone! :)

There was a girl at school who had two black Labradors and I can remember going to tea at her house and them letting the dogs lick the ketchup lid and put it back on - so gross!!! Wonder what happened to her - bet she died of some nasty disease!

Absolutely not, no, Bear is overfond of chewing his bum to release the anal juice, as the OH calls it, and they do not come near our plates, yuk! No face licking, either and no staring as we eat. I find that horribly ill mannered.

lol, our Lurcher does this as well, she's adept at it manipulating you to give her something to eat, she stands no chance with me though as I love my food too much to share!
 
Absolutely not.
Any suitable left overs would be set aside to be fed in their bowls at feed time.
It's not just a hygiene issue for me either. It's about training and acceptable behaviour.
The dog eats when I say so, I make the rules he obeys them.
That makes for a happy contented dog, confident in his place in the family.
Watch a wild pack, no one eats until the leader says so, after having his fill, never any disobedient members of that pack.
