When riding him? I have always let the horses I am riding stop and do their stuff. I know some people see this as wrong, but you gotta do what you gotta do! I always feel for the horses who aren't allowed to go in peace!

Do you let yours?

I let them poo when I'm riding.. Not sure how I'd stop them TBH! But I do insist the move forwards as they can't stop during a dressage test!

Mine happily poos on the move, I will, if not schooling properly, make him stop in the school so it is easier to clean up but we compete so I can't afford Mr Arnie grinding to a halt in the middle of an arena or XC course :D

Ned usually is ok with doing it on the move, unless we're in the school or in-hand, then he INSISTS on it, which is fine.

I felt awful, I once had to get very cross with a horse who decided to stop for a wee in the middle of crossing a usually very busy road :O Thankfully it was quiet that day.

No, they have to keep moving, unless in the school, then they can stop so its easier to clean up. But when doing a timed sj round i dont really have time to let her stop for a poo. Last year i've seen a horse doing the six bar challenge at olympia and while jumping it needed to go so it went, but did not stop jumping. So i think that if they can do it over 1.60m jumps, so can mine over 90cm :)

I have always wanted a horse talented enough to poo on the move :(

Forget Show Jumping, POO ON THE MOVE PONY!

Elsiecat - for a moment I did think about writing "do their business" but poo is just so much more fun ;)

Mine can poo on the go, walk, trot, canter, jump, you name it... she can do it! She has been known to half pass to the side of the road for a wee before now... she stops for that!!

Ponies are the worst for 'stopping on the job'!

Depends. Mines grey, & in my teens I always encouraged her to stop out hacking so we didn't end up arriving at stuff with poo on her legs & tail. However anywhere else, she keeps going. Usually I encourage them to keep going when doing any work though till the habit sets in. However, above mare has been trained to poo/wee once you pick up a contact after warming up. She wees for England & it was the least embarrassing way to deal with it.

As I happy hack I tend to leave it to the horse. I've been on some that don't seem to notice they're going themselves and others who simply detest walking while going. This seems to be similar in the field too. If one is happy to wander and poo, they can do it on a hack!

Mine never stops for a poo, even poos mid jump, it landed on the top bar. In the jump off.it's definitely bad manners to stop and poo

I've tried to get them to carry on moving while pooing, but they just won't so I've given up :o My hairy Fairy has stopped just before a jump on a xc course to poo. we were doing pairs, and my friend didn't notice and carried on to the next jump  :p

Hahaha, Shy takes great pleasure in gearing up for his poo, finding the right spot (ALWAYS on a grassy area), and then relieving himself with a great sigh. It's all part of our ritual now ;)

I was leading ponies in from fields and one gelding stopped to pee - in the middle of a train crossing! I'd been told I had time to get across (2 minutes) well I was urging the pony to pee MUCH quicker. We did get through the gate before the train arrived!!
