Do you like seeing other people ride your horse?

As the title says basically.

I do on jumping really. I'm not good at jumping, I dont have the nerve for it thanks to having a bad childhood experience where every time I jumped at my first riding school, I fell off or the pony would bolt. (Yes not a very good riding school at all). I understand jumping, I know how to set the horse up, how to land and move onto the next jump, oddly I'm very good at getting a horse out of difficulty if its jumped into a combination badly. But in general unless the horse makes a mistake and I have to fix it, I just freeze on sight of the jump and forget everything.

Jumping my horse as well, is very difficult and scary. Its not his fault, its the way he is designed. He has a very powerful movement, way more power than anything I've ever ridden. His jump is so bizarre to me too, I'm used to riding school horses for jumping, and generally they are smooth over jumps. He has one hell of a ping to his jump, understandably given how he is bred, but I just cant sit it. And if he gets excited, he bounces even more out of excitement and I fall off at that point. :D

So yeah I like watching other people jump him. He's not even strong, he doesnt need anything more than a snaffle to jump, the rider I usually get to jump him has agreed with that too. He's just so enthusiastic for jumping, its lovely to watch him going round bigger jumps, ears pricked forward the entire time, and even when he's really tired and sweating a lot he's still dying to go round again.

My mum wants me to do the jumping with him as well, and I can understand that, but I dont really want to anymore if I'm honest. It would be lovely if I had the confidence to do 80cm jumps with him as I'd love to try an 80cm BE event just for a bit of fun and something different, but I'm really just not confident enough and dont think I ever will be. I get more enjoyment watching someone else do it than I do trying to jump him.

Anyone else feel the same?

Yes my yo's daughter evented Robin last year. I loved watching it. I don't jump anymore but discovered he lives jumpingaonhe gets to go out and do what he likes which makes him happy to go out and do what I want. She did be90 and was desperate to move up to 100 something I will never ever do with him.

No one else really rides mine... I like riding other people's though :D

I have a good friend whose riding I really rate, she's sat on both a few times to give her opinion on where we should be heading, and she occasionally hacks one of them out with me. But that's it really :p

Love it! More novice riders it's nice to see the ponies teaching them new tricks and more experienced riders so I can hack in company and admire how beautiful they are from the ground!

I'd kill to see someone else ride my horse atm! I'm in desperate need of a sharer as my life has taken a massive turn toward the chaotic, but people try once or twice and then drift away. My YO describes her as the yard robot horse because she'll just go wherever you point her and is the world's most easygoing horse if you ask nicely, but for some reason people manage to rub her the wrong way and then she turns into a mule.

In general, no! I allow a few people to have a shot of one of mine as I know he's unlikely to do anything naughty so is safe, but I couldn't watch someone have a whole schooling session and i've not had anyone else jump him. My other horse i've only allowed one other person ride him so she could feel what i felt (rate her as a rider and know she can cope with his naughty moments) - then when she had another go on him she was able to say what difference she felt. He's totally not her type of horse though so again, doesn't ride for long. I allowed someone else to have a go once and it didn't go well. So in general I either want to improve my own riding to get the horse to go better or I don't trust the rider to remain in balance to ride my horse... it's whether i feel the horse will cope with the more novice rider - if i feel they will then i have less problem allowing them to ride.

Yes! I'm too big and heavy to ride my ponies but there is a local 7 year old who rides two of them, I take enormous pride in my ponies and love to see their successes with their little rider - much more so than when I showed them inhand

My instructor is riding while I'm pregnant, I spend the whole lesson thinking how gorgeous my horse is :p so looking forward to getting back on!

It depends on the person - I'm fussy over who I allow to ride her but I do like watching her working for someone as it lets me see things I couldn't otherwise

I LOVE watching other people ride my horses. Yesterday one of the GB horseball team used Tiger and I probably enjoyed watching them more than playing myself but I also get a kick out of them looking after an inexperienced rider and bringing them on!

I wouldn't let just anyone get on but I do love people riding mine. The problem is no one wants to! He can be quite lazy and clever so takes advantage of people who don't get after him and so he feels horrible to ride then they give up!

Yes on the flat, I like seeing the little holes in schooling that emerge when someone with a different riding style/biomechanics to me is on board. Don't like anyone else jumping them though - confidence is too easily ruined and hard to get back.

I like my largely non horsey OH lunging or freeschooling them as well, again it can be quite enlightening

I really didn't like anyone riding my last boy. We had a really unique partnership and I was very protective over him - I enjoyed him far too much to share :D

With the new boy I love seeing good riders on him - seeing him go so lovely gives me a lot of inspiration and a goal, and also helps me understand him better. Its great to see what he's capable of, and he's lovely to watch! I'm still overly protective though so he's only been ridden by others a few times. I share him with my mum, and shes the only one that rides him without me there!

If you like others jumping your boy, why not! As long as you're enjoying your boy whether riding or watching, and he's happy then it sounds great!
