Today I really needed to get my 2 out, otherwise Motor gets little or no exercise

.

The lovely young girl who rides my TB could not make today and it is 50/50 whether she will be able to make tomorrow, so all that would have left was Sunday and tbo that is not enough really.

I don't have a School and both have to go together, as Motor needs it more than TB and TB would stress out so much that I would not enough myself on Motor

So off I went, riding my TB (which is a rarity

) and Motor toddled along next to me, all excited and full of himself

.... I smiled all the way, however I really do not like doing it .... but needs must ..................

I wouldn't dare but my friend does it all the time and it always goes well because the horses love each other.
It sounds like it was fun for you! I would continue if it went well and the horses like each other.

I do it twice a week as otherwise my two wouldn't get as many outings as I would like. I alternate which one I ride each time and I love it - the feeling of being out with both my girls just makes me happy for some reason! When I started I just used to do an hour round the lanes but now I go out for long hacks across the moors whilst riding one and leading the other. They seem to enjoy it too.

I used my older horse to take youngster out so that he could see the road, traffic etc before I rode him. He was really cheeky though. My older horse used to boss him around in the field so when we hacked out he used to take the opportunity to get him back, and would try to bite his shoulder all the way!!

Yes my 2 love each other to bits and would never do anything more than pull faces, which is affection in horsey terms

I have not done it for over a year and would prefer not to though .... I think the smile it to ensure myself we will all be ok

I have tried riding and leading the young one but i wouldn't do it again, he was good but i didn't feel i would have much control if he did do anything naughty.
He seemed to find it fun to slow down and lick my knee most of the way

Sofers - that sounds fantastic

Poppymoo - I did have an experience, years ago, when Motor stopped for a poo and I nearly came off the back of TB …. It was in the middle of a T junction too!

HannahElizabeth - I would prefer to ride Motor, but I think that would be a disaster

No chance...can't even lead mine with another - last time i tried my idiot decided to double barrell the other horse I was leading, then decided to make a quick getaway before he got kicked back, only I was in the way. He literally ran straight into the back of me, I ran for a few steps but could keep up and he mowed me down. He he didn't stand on me I dont know. He is such an oaf, and no doubt didn't mean me any harm, but I dont fancy a repeat of that ever!

I used to do it all the time, ride the hunter and lead my daughter's pony, even a good canter across the mountain. Two birds with one stone and all that.

I have always done it, although as a teenager I had one Tb that hated having a pony led from him, so I would ride the 12.2 and lead the 16.2h, that always made people laugh, it looked very silly

I ride and lead quite often. I ride my TB and lead the Section A. She is pretty good and keeps up surprisingly well, when the TB has an Eppy she just stands there whilst I am getting spun round and round trying not to strangle myself
shocked.gif
(Luckily this is now less frequent as the TB has settled down a bit).

We manage all paces including a fast canter/gallop and ride on road and through fields. Never had any major problems (touch wood!)

Both horses and myself are kitted out in hi-viz, Pony is lead from her bridle and both have brushing boots on all round.

Some of you have made me laugh so much with your stories and I have learnt a lot from your replies, which is brilliant

I am still laughing out loud, thinking about Enfys riding a 12.2 and leading a 16.2

I wouldn't dare with the combination we have now and the hacking out we endure
frown.gif
I used to with Polly as she was traffic-proof, just like Fin still is. Be a handy exercise plan, though!

Come for a visit down South and we could have some fun then, as we have some lovely hacking, as you know

I would like to be able to do this as I have 2 endurance horses to keep fit. However, even though the 2 boys in question have been together since yearlings, and get on very well together, one is top of the pecking order and the other is at the bottom. I simply cannot get them to walk (or any other pace for that matter) side by side. The dominant one simply has to be in front and the other one naturally tucks in behind "bum sniffing".

I don't feel at all safe riding and leading like that - as it means that the behind horse is on a very long rein/rope, I have considerably less control, and I can't keep an eye on him at all.

If anyone's got any ideas on how to resolve this, that would be great! Meanwhile, I'll just continue NOT riding and leading.

Do it quite a lot with mine, their better behaved together than on their own so easier with both! One ride one tho as the other doesn't get neck reining, not managed canter with them both yet, only they have very different canters so it's looking unlikely!

I have done in the past and am about to start doing again in order to help daughter get her horse back in shape and to condition his barefoot tooties. Also I have 2 riding horses and a companion so am going to start bringing the companion out occasionally with us when we ride out so she gets a bit of exercise over summer.

I used to do this a lot when helping a friend out with hunters. Her boss's horse was a nightmare to ride out on the road, but generally fine to lead - we had one nasty moment when a dog jumped out at him and he pulled away from my friend's horse, but luckily we were on a quiet lane and she was able to catch him before he got too far.
The other horses were great, and there were various sizes- the only bad combination was the boss's horse and a little mare we had on livery - the gelding loved to get too close and rub his nose on her (with me frantically pulling him back towards my knee!); if she was in a really bad mood she'd try to kick him!
If we were on bridleways (where we would canter them in pairs) or quiet lanes it was actually quite fun, and kept me VERY fit, but not very enjoyable on the main road as lorries etc always squeezed us into the hedges.

I used to do this when I had two and only enough time to ride one. Am about to start doing it again to try and get my mare built up a little bit before I get on her in March.

I used to ride and lead from Rocky when I worked for an event rider, a bit nerve racking when your horse has kicked in the past and you're leading her top eventer! Funnily enough they were always fine, although her one used to buck sometimes!

In Scotland I used to ride and lead all the time - much to the disgust of horsey friends. One old boy would not go out alone and stressed if left in the stable so it was win win. I did it 2/3 times a week for 8 years.

In France I am often alone and it the only way to de-spook youngsters imo.

I used to do this all the time when I had 2 to keep fit, I also used to lunge 2 at a time every morning, that took a bit of practice but once we'd got the hang of it they were fine.

I've always done it to save time. Usually leading off the same horse, she was happy to go out with a mare or a gelding. They were all TB's.

Oh my gosh, I have been out riding all afternoon and get back and find there are lots of you out there, doing it every day

I have Trotted them both out, but I would draw the line at Canter

I am very lucky to have the 2 of them, who I can lead everywhere together every day, and regularly take them for walks up the drive together, just to give Motor a leg stretch
