Do you ride and lead?

I also used to lunge 2 at a time every morning, that took a bit of practice but once we'd got the hang of it they were fine.

How on earth did you do that?

I used to do that as well

I had Charlie on the lunge line and then Millie would just follow behind him! I managed to do it in a 5 acre field for a few weeks until Millie became wise and realized that if she Buggered of too the other end of the field she could graze rather then exercise

my pony broke her leg being led by another, freak accident of course though

i always find when leading i feel im blindly leading a horse not knowing what its doing/where its going/the best route, if you know what i mean..?! although could be argued they have to look out for themselves.

LOL!!

None of you have ever worked in a polo yard obviously!!! They ride and lead several at a time.

I remember when I was working in a hunting yard in the USA many moons ago (1970's!!) we had to ride one and lead 3. They had a special 'link' made to attach the two on the inside together, and then you had another one on the outside. We hacked miles, and also did trot work up a long grassy hill - that was the difficult bit!!! They were generally very good, but we did block the single track road a bit when hacking out and back!!!

When I had to exercise daughter's 12h hunting pony from my 16.2, she couldn't keep up in walk. So - I put her on an extendable dog-lead - and when she had lagged behind to its fullest extent, she trotted to catch up again!!! Perfect - she didn't have to jog all the time! It wasn't on a main road though!!!

edited to say - had only looked at first page of replies - sorry! And also, that I am very safety concious!!!

When I had 3 & I needed to get them in for tea I used to get on one bareback, and lead the other 2. Was only in a field but i did have to cross a river! However that's not quite as brave as leading 3 hunters from one horse - well done punk, that must have been quite a handful at times

Yes, did it tonight as they have both been in all day. Rode 2 miles offroad.

I ride Mick and lead Shiney. I school Mick as we are going along and Shiney just stays at the side.

We trotted tonight quite a way. they go head to head lovely.

Yes I have always ridden and led another horse/pony, hoping to do it this year once my mare starts doing some work again and I am back to having 2 to keep ticking over.

yes, at least once a week.... it's much better for my field and my stables if I ride and lead. Ron doesn't really like it though as it limits us to roadwork or up the hill in the forestry where there's no gates, and he considers this to be boring.

Also, Tom makes use of not having the flash on and bites Ron at every opportunity

Ron largely ignores him, but every now and again will turn and make the most evil of evil faces at him and Tom runs backwards. And if I make moves to slap him for it he acts like I beat round the head with a mace several times a day...

It's actually quite easy, just put one in front of the other & send them round, I used to have them both in bridles.
It was a disaster the first couple times, with them going round in opposite directions or both getting loose & legging it! But I kept at it & within a few days we'd got the hang of it, we just walked & trotted at first but we were soon cantering for 30 minutes every morning.
I had 2 horses to get team chase fit, while working full time & found it very helpful, they were used to working togther as I always rode 1 & led the other.
Make sure the one in front does't kick!
