Do you ride other horses to your own?

Just curious as now the shire x I share has had his shoes off for the winter I've decided that it would do me good to ride another horse so I'm going back to having a lesson once a fortnight (all I can afford) at a local school.

I felt it would do me good to ride something different so today rather than riding a 16.3hh wide horse I rode a 15.3hh slight framed horse. Such a change but it'll do me good xx

Yes! Well I have no choice for two reasons. One, both my horses are broken, and two, I run a livery yard and have to school the liveries' horses.

We have three very different riding horses. I think that's enough variety for me. I don't ride anyone else's horse nor do I have anyone riding any of mine!

Yes a few, people just ask and I am happy to oblige! I think the experience is invaluable and as mine can be a little backwards at times I'm only too pleased to sit on something with some oomph!

I do, i ride 2-5 a day every weekday + my own. It is very good for you i think, i'm always more confident on other people's horses than my own though... i'm a bit odd like that!

Yes - always have. After I got my first pony I started working with horses so got to ride loads, then I lost my confidence with mine and ended up riding a friend's... then another friend's, and another, sold my 14.1hh Welshie and ended up sharing a 15hh Anglo Arab and a 17hh Irish x...

It went on and on and on!

I currently have fortnightly (or thereabouts) lessons, which means I ride a variety depending on what needs exercising that day, and I currently ride a big ex-racer once a week ish and am about to start sharing / riding my friend's old quirky Anglo Arab.

The more the better - thing is, once I start I can't stop! :p

Well I have two very different horses of my own, but I also regularly go away to ride advanced dressage horses and it helps enormously to bring my own riding on and to better understand my own two.

Yes, I am a self employed groom/rider so it is my job! I agree it will do you good to ride different horses as it will give you more experience and help your riding to improve further. :)

Yup. Riding/sharing a horse when my life partner mare was written off is how I've ended up with my loan mare. But I've always ridden others to my own. As kids we used to swap about all the time; when I was doing regular dressage training I used to ride my trainer's horse and those of us in the clinics would also swap; now I sometimes ride a friend's hot-headed little show-jumper too and end up helping out with others' horses, especially if there are difficulties they are having with schooling. The variety is good for my riding and I like being able to help others out where I can too.
