Do you ride your horse on Christmas Day?

I don't but ride on christmas eve and boxing day. On christmas eve we dress up, santa hats, tinsel, the lot. We ride for a good 2 hours up to our local pub, where we stop for a drink, have a laugh then try and hack back, safely of course home

Riding on Xmas day makes my Xmas complete as I always had a pony at the top of my Xmas list when a kid and was disappointed year in and year out that I never got one.

So now I am lucky to have 2 horses, I get up early and feed/muck out, tend to leave them in as I can't face them coming in covered in mud. Go home by 9 for pressie opening and relative visits. Either do an early dinner and then ride just after lunch or if having a later dinner, go down between relatives and cooking dinner to ride, give more hay and give them their Xmas lunch (carrots and apples). Just have to pop back then in evening to top up hay and feed.

I always feel more relaxed Xmas day once I have ridden.

I have only ever rode on christmas eve and boxing day before, but this year i am tempted to get up extra early on christmas day so that i can ride on an empty road- Bliss! Only problem is i might want to take advantage of it a bit too much- would love to go for a good 4 hour hack, but family might not approve

Will have to see how christmas eve goes though and if i can legally drive to the yard early enough! lol

I went to the beach last year on Christmas morning

the roads were quiet and we left at 8:30am so as we hacked past houses you could see the children opening their presents

We were out for a good 3 hours and had such a fab time.

If my parents go to church on xmas morning I may pop out for a quick hack, otherwise I may go mad looking at the presents under the tree at home waiting for them to return!!

We will be hunting on Boxing day, first boxing day meet for me that I've had a horse to go on, am SO excited (possibly looking forward to that more than xmas day!!)

Had the horse with me at home for the first time last year, and am repeating the whole thing again this year.... so Yes will definatly be riding..... it is afterall just another day where animals are concerned!

I've never done a christmas hack with my sister, as we've never had two horses going at one time (we've been riding for about 7 years now

, and never had a christmassy hack together). So this year as we finally have two horses on the go, we're going to get up early, and dress the ponies up in tinsel, the lot

and go out for our first ever christmas hack

- even if it is only down the road and back

! Ohh I'm rather excited about it

!

always, roads are normally quiet. Frank has to go round the village dressed up as a reindeer and chatting to small children. In his element really

Last Christmas day I was in hospital.... thanks to my horse

The year before I had hoped to, but didn't as it tipped it down solidly all morning, so I gave up and went for a run on the treadmill instead

This year I can't as my horse is broken

I never normally do - but I did last year for the first time ever. I am planning on riding this year - but probably won't if it is hideous weather!

Last year was my 1st time too

Ive always wanted too, but as I never drove before then, it would have been unfair to drag OH and child to horses Xmas morning

I'll deffo do it again this year weather permitting

Usually without fail as his turnout is never as long as a 'normal' day! .....and to be honest I love going for a hack with him on Christmas Day....just me and him!
grin.gif
But for the first time in 13 years it will be the first Christmas I can't ride him due to a broken ankle xx

Always used to as so lovely and peaceful and everyone you meet walking dogs etc is happy. Miss being able to do so but horse is at competition livery and it doesn't really fit in with his lifestyle!

This is my first Xmas of horse ownership so I really want to even though it will mean I have to be riding at 7.30am and off to cook for grandparents back home in Sussex mid morning!

Sadly broken horse has other ideas but meeting vet and physio for final session next week so fingers crossed it has worked and I can ride on Xmas day.

i hack out on Christmas morning.

the roads are so quiet and it is so peaceful; its become a little tradition for me and Pilfer to enjoy a Christmas hack.

Last year was the first year I managed to ride on Christmas day. At the previous yard I as at the yard was closed christmas day, boxing day and new years day and liveries were not even allowed to visit their horses. I was always really miffed as the christmas period is the only time I escape from the office in daylight at this time of year!!

I will definitely be riding Athena as my OH is working nights on Christmas Eve, so he will be in bed on Christmas Day as he's back on nights on Christmas Day Night!!!!!

I always hack a christmas day hack, unless the weather is really awful.
At my old yard I used to bring a flask of mulled wine and my friend brought mince pies for us to have before we went out. At my new yard I think I will be the only person riding on christmas day this year, but I still plan to go out for a quick hack.

I ride in a nice empty indoor school, have ridden my horse every year on christmas day for the last 6 years and hopefully will be riding again this christmas
