Do you swear at your horse?

LOL at mary king! The thing is I think horsey people in general swear a lot, but it doesn't seem to be publicly accepted... certainly not at pony club!

Mary King swore?!! I don't believe it!!!

I do swear at her sometimes but I don't swear much in general. If she's being a real cow and messing me around and I do snap and swear at her she knows she's gone too far and behaves. It's much better someone swearing at their horse than beating it IMO and it's not like the horse is going to be insulted by it...

I swear at mine alot. He doesnt know what the words mean so it doesnt bother me, it just helps me get my stern voice over easier!

"Like stand up you ba5tard" when he wont let me clip his legs or "for fcuk sake get on with it" when he wont go on the lorry "or tw4t when he is just being stupid"

Yep *raises hand* guilty. At the moment the favourite is 'stop being such a f@nny'. Also tend to use some kind of 4 lettered word if meeting a jump totally wrong.

About 12 years ago whilst on XC training with the PC team my pony decided to start rearing (her party trick) and nearly came down on some barbed wire. I was heard shouting 'holy f*ck' very loudly and got a severe dressing down from the DC much to the amusement of the rest of the team!

No I don't swear at my horses, not that I'm aware of anyway, but then I very very rarely swear in day to day life so swear words aren't exactly on the tip of my tongue.

I too am a serial horse swearer

I am convinced that Appy's are born with an understanding of the worst curse words in the world and like to see if they can learn more by provoking their owners into coming up with new ones

Unfortunately since being surrounded by rugby lads, there are very few times when I dont swear

However, randomly I don't recall swearing at the pony, I do say rude words when I cock up the stride to a fence (regularly!

Perhaps my ponio is such a shining example of well behaved horseflesh, that I rarely have to utter a bad word in his direction....................... or more likely that I swear on such a regular basis that I don't know what I'm saying anymore

All the time

It just sort of flows out on it's own whenever I see a tractor approaching, when a duck takes off as we ride past the river, whenever I'm trying to load the obnoxious stubborn bag and when she pretends in our lessons that she's a laid-back dozy sort of cob who needs to be kicked into everything, when in real life I don't dare to put my legs on her!

I don't know anyone who handles horses on a daily basis who does not swear. Apart from my vet - and heaven knows, he's heard me - he should have learnt by now!

Yes, It isn't good at PC level

I went in to do this little sjing thing, tapped sparky to wake him up and got told not to.... went in to thenext class and did the same thing and shouted 'DAMN!!' and all the parents heard and I was rather

lol, if i speak to my horses then without a doubt there will be some swear words in there somewhere, but it's just the way i express myself rather than a wish to abuse them.
Even my kids know that the ponys' other name is little sh1t, they wouldn't dare say it but they know lol

HOWEVER, we are among stars. I was watching Mary King take one of her youngsters around the PN at Moreton a while back. She'd walked the intro course with her daughter beforehand and consequently jumped one of the intro fences - alas, I heard her (very audibly) shout "OH SH*T"!

That makes me feel slightly better - everyone at my yard took the p**s out of me after West Wilts last year. Josh and I were approaching the water (he had stopped at the water at the last event) and the person who had sold him to me was sat at that fence watching - apparently she heard me very audibly say to Josh "dont you f*****g dare you little s**t" as he thought about stopping

Swearing loudly in public I can understand being frowned on but.....where's the problem in swearing at your horse? What's he going to do - swear back at you??? (P!$$ myself laughing if he did

I don't believe in constantly shouting, swearing or raising my voice at my horse -------
crazy.gif

If he does something really bad on the ground I may shout/swear, but only very rarely. I tend to speak to him, with a change of tone in my voice, sometimes speaking very firmly. I also believe in using pressure/release on the ground. I certaily don't shout or swear at my horse when riding.

I do swear at my horse but am making an effort, although I was well and truly caught out when doing a pairs class with a friend this year. His horse is very ditchy, and we had gone clear right up to the last ditch, so as we approached I felt possessed to shout "F***ing kick it" at him. It worked, and we finished clear and placed but the fence judge did catch up with me later (luckily a livery on our yard) and have a laugh about it - could have been so much worse!

My friends pony stopped in BN second rounds at a tiny jump (she is jumping 1.20ms on her, and this jump was no bigger than 1m!), and she shouted, "you effing b!tch, get the feck on with you for fecks sake!". She got called to the judges box and got a good telling to

I swear at my horses all the time, usually in a playful way though

eg, " *sigh* oh Tara, you are such a b!tch"
