And do you tell them what you're going to/where you're going?

Just wondering as I never used too with my last horse but I do with this one, perhaps because he is more sensitive. I do think he listens to me aswell.

I always tell him where we are going on hack, who's coming with us etc etc xx

i do if i go out alone. it helps to keep us both calm and i love having a conversation about everything and anything. i also do it when i'm grooming him if no one is around to hear and think i've gone mad!

Yes, and they talk to me too, esp the previous girl who made a big point of letting me know where things on the route had changed or if there was a hazard on the route and letting me know when I wasn't sitting straight.

Horse previous to that seemed to spend most of the time telling me I was a complete plonker and I should just stay in balance and let her get on with it.

Current horse not so chatty, but getting more so by the day, even stricter on the sitting straight thing, but I am more crooked in my old age :-(

I tend to sing along to my ipod rather then talking, although if he's being silly, tense or naughty a few words may be had :p :D

i talk to mine as i walk past on the yard, ask them if they're okay, they like to talk back! especially if food is involved ;)

:D I talk to Wally all the time, normally when he is leaping around on hacks trying to reverse in ditches and rearing and spinning! :D Most of what I say is unrepeatable! :D

A bit, normally to tell him off if he's being a prat out hacking or to tell him he's a good boy. Also usual "steady", "stand" type stuff but don't talk to him like a person!

He always gets a kiss and a "night night" at bed time, and generally talk to him how I do my dogs when I'm doing my jobs. I don't think he takes any notice though or appreciates my kisses!

Yes, all the time - and I sing to them, heaven help them (no seriously, a GREAT calmer for a stressy horse).

I used to be teased a lot when I hunted as I praised my horse all the time - and how he deserved it. The nice thing is that if you talk to your horses they tend to talk back to you. My current mare always calls out when she hears my voice - not a greedy "Come and feed me" but a little "Here I am" chortle. Love it!

I dont, only because I could not get a word in edgeways with Bob. Its yak yak yak from him from start to finnish. "look a man with a dog, look squrrels ,look pigeons ,look killer bycycle".

Yes and the weird thing is she talks back. Well if I say shall we look for the babies? She will go over to their field and look.

Fany is naturally very talkative and calls to you as you pass the field, when you arrive if she is in her stable she will call.

Seriously I talk to both of mine, Captain loves to be talked to and responses with wickers and cuddles.

Elizabeth used to sing to him to calm him and when they argued she grunted at him and he'd grunt back, they used to sound like an old married couple. This went on until her trainer threatened to gag her if she made another sound!

I sing along to my ipod to him! Not on the roads mind only when offroad! But when with someone i find you talk so much (abit of gossiping :p ) you tend to forget your riding and am just automaticaly unerved by things.

I hum quite a lot to myself, and talk Shy thru anything a bit scary. Our main "thing" is when he "sneezes" that "prrrrrrrrrr" noise - i do it first, then we take turns.... :o

i ust to talk to freddy all the time, not just when we were hacking but when i was in the stable with him ect, he was like my best friend and it calmed me down to talk to him when i was upset. i miss him so much, i doubt ill ever have that kind of bond with another horse...

I sing to my iPhone when Im riding out, interspersed with a string of four letter expletives every few minutes when she spots a leaf/road marking/distant plane and gets giddy and annoys me. I like my rides out to be peaceful and I don't appreciate manouevres above the ground every few hundred yards, so the tourette's syndrome comes to the fore. I do chat to her whilst grooming and mucking out, not that she could give a fat rat's backside; her only interest is in her next door neighbour's movements.

Yep talk to mine all the time - it's really funny when I call them from garden and look through hedge as they can't work out where I am. Here other people chatting to them at their gate as they walk past as well

I thought I was the only one who did this! :D

I talk to my mare all the time, especially if I need her to get through something scary. If she hears me talking calmly she relaxes. Her ears flick back and forth from the sound of my voice and the Object of Doom.

However, once when I was singing to her, she looked back at me with a very pained expression as if to tell me that I was *embarrassing* her!

I talk to mine all the time, in the stable, whilst grooming, out riding, when she's in the field and even when I'm at home and she's in her stable! I don't always talk outloud, but generally if I think 'move over' she does and when I'm riding if I think trot she does.

She also lets me know when I'm stressed, by pulling a face at me and then I remember to breathe and stop thinking about work. When I'm riding and my mind starts to wander back to work, she just stops, and that reminds me to concentrate and ride.

Friends like freddy can never be replaced ,but one day another horse will find you (thats the way it works ,they find us,honestly).Bob found me and saved me after I lost lance and swore I could never have another horse. You wont be replacing freddy but finding another friend to share your life with.

Yes, I talk to both of them-especially out hacking.
I find it help me to calm, and like to think it helps the youngster too!
Would love to be an outsider listening to me chat crap to them :D:o

I do! If the door is closed when I'm in the indoor, I'll talk loudly as I'm coming to the door as himself likes to pretend there's a bear outside peeking in at him  (the door doesn't close completely and there's a 2" gap) I discovered if I started talking loudly he'd listen to me and not try to look out the gap in between the doors!

:D
