Echo what Ziggy said, not all TBs are the same. mine is out 24/7 all summer although if it rains he needs a light sheet on, he makes such a fuss if he gets wet, will stand any amount of cold but sulks when it's raining, has to be seen to be believed really but I'm sure if he could open the gate he'd bring himself into the barn. I know several who do live out all winter, with good rugs, plenty of hay and natural shelter they do very well. Tbh I think they are generally happier out, the ones I know are certainly very chilled and easy to do. You just need to look at each horse as an individual, do you know how the one you are looking at is kept at the moment? Mine is my first horse after an 8 year gap and although I'm really confident on the ground I'm not particularly brave once on, we've had a few minor niggles but in the main he is a really honest and easy little horse, not spooky or sharp, just gets a bit edgy sometimes but the plus side is that he is absolutely rock steady in traffic which I'm told most ex racers are! Good luck.
