Just giggling away to myself about the comments on the snobbery thread :)

Do you use a breastplate? I use one all the time on my young horse, as I am so paranoid that her saddle could slip if she decided to turn herself inside out!

Her saddle is correctly fitted and girthed, it just gives me peace of mind. I also slip her neck strap through it so it doesn't go all over the place.

So if you ever see me jumping 1' indoors, that is why she has a breastplate on :D
 
Yes I use one on my TB with a martingale attachment (shoot me now!). I prefer to have a breastplate with removable attachment rather then a standard running martingale.
 
5-point on to go out for a half hour canter / mini hack in the snow today...

Mine wears one all the time for hacking and often for jumping too. And for competing at TREC (can't think of a sport less requiring that sort of thing!) and if we play horseball so I can hang on if necessary.
 
i ride in a dressage saddle for my back ,and a 5 point breastplate to stop the saddle moving as we ride some very steep terrain! but also spider jumps so huge i like to hook my finger into it for security-last time i fell off he stood on my shin bone ouch!:)
 
Used to but my saddle fitter said I was restricting shoulder movement so haven't used it since.. Survived without it :D
 
Only at comps/rideouts. Not going to use the mrtingale attachment this year as dont feel we need it. Just a standard leather hunter breastplate, nowt fancy ;)

Its nice to have summat for those !! OH $H!TE !! moments ;) :D

Yep! Every time I ride.... partly because my lad needs a running martingale, secondly 'cause I use it as an 'Oh Sh!7' strap ;)
 
Yeh I do all the time on one, and I always use one for xc and sometimes for fastwork. I don't see why people have a problem with something that essentially improves safety???
 
Mines a hunter breastplate with elastic on the shoulder-ey bits !

I use it for peace of mind as even though saddle fits she is a chunky (not fat) girl and is known to have explosive moments and I'd rather the saddle not slip :p I also like the neck bit for the 'oh *****3!!!' moments :D
I have an RS-tor on her too though, I bet that makes me look even more stoopid. I use an ordinary neck strap on my 13.3 though as she's fine (usually) its just nice to have something to grab, I never ride without one.
 
I used to have one on one of the Clydie mares. Her confo meant that her saddle slipped back sometimes on our steep hills, so I got a hunter breastplate, which solved the problem.
 
Yup boyo is in a hunter breastplate with a running martingale attachment. He's on share so it's just what his owner uses. He is a strong opinionated fella though, so nice to know I have an 'Oh Sh!!t' strap to grab onto if I need it ;)
 
I think I might invest in one, I don't find a neckstrap very useful as it just gets tangled in my horse's mega mane! Plus if you're going any way other than backwards the strap is just going to go with you! Saddle seems ok at the mo but after slipping incidents before it fitted well I am paranoid. Don't see why anyone would be bothered about people putting a breastplate on.
 
Only for jumping and cross country/hunting - my GP saddle doesn't move an inch, even under duress but I'd rather not test that theory at higher speeds ... Always use a neckstrap though ;)
 
I use one - to stop saddle slip up hill - prefer not to need one as more to clean :'(. But it does come in handy for my mini-pony pilots to hild onto on a lead out :-D
 
Yes, and I am not ashamed.

We hack. In a hunter breastplate and running martingale. And I don't care who does or doesn't approve! ;)
 
I put on an elasticated hunter breastplate if we're going to be doing fast work & jumping / XC - I've never had a problem with my saddle slipping but she has big movement, a huge jump, handbrake turns and a lot of speed and I'd rather not risk anything going wrong! :o
To be honest I much prefer how the 5 point breastplates look, but I think they can restrict movement so stick with my current one.
 
Always wear a breastplate for hunting (very steep up and down hills round here as you know P!) one's without a martingale attachment, one's with a running (nappy, rearing little shyte!) but never for excersing, because its hard enough finding time to clean tack without the added extra bits!
 
We wear one with a martingale attachment all the time, mainly because I'm too lazy to take it off :) I do like the elastic ones though, it's currently on my list of 'things what I need' :D
 
Yep I use an elastic hunting breastplate with a detachable martingale,infact I just picked up a new one today.Martingale goes on for fast work but off for every day steady hacking.More for security as can whip round faster than an ice cream man can make a cone if she sees anything that resembles a cow,daft neddie!Wouldnt be with out mine,but we do have times when I dont use it. :)
