i love winter!
i love having the horses stabled at night and clipping and rugging and early morning and late night stable visits and everything.
i feel really happy when i do my final check on the horses at 10.00 (OH calls it 'tucking in and reading a story'
smile.gif
), and i leave them contentedly eating their supper and hay, and first thing in the morning when i go to do brekkie and only my two neds are up, waitng to be fed and turned out.

does anyone else, or is winter generally hated by all

?

Love it.

Love having clipped horse, rugged horse, stabled horse, cosy horse. Love wrapping up against the elements.

I think I prefer it actually - apart from the shorter days.....

I hate it! Freezing cold fingers and toes, only riding at weekends, having to brave icy cold winds whilst poo picking and getting up in pitch black fumbling way to field to turn out in the mornings just to name a few but i will say that i do like making them all cosy at night with warm rugs and yummy dinner!

I dont like it when it's just plain miserable (raining or whatever), but i LOVE it when it's FREEZING cold! It's so satisfying to bring them in, put big cosy rugs, put them in a stable with a MASSIVE straw bed and give them a hot bran mash!
And there's not a Horse Fly anywhere!!

Hate it

> Not enough time to ride as much as I should.
> Thick Suffolk mud plastered everywhere on the horse
> Thick Suffolk Mud plastered everywhere on me when I fall over in the mud

Well okay, I like having a clipped, rugged (clean) horse, but I hate being cold, hate that its dark when I leave work. I loath it .... and yet I am on full livery (minus exercise and grooming) so don't even have to do early mornings, dark evenings and muddy fields!!!

I hate it, I love the spring, summer, autumn. I hate the shortened days, the darkness, coldness, less time to ride, less hacking - hate it

i also love it in summer i tend to find it to easy to just leave them in the field to enjoy themselves whereas in winter with them being in at night i dont have a excuse not to ride since the school is well drained and floodlit.

also think its magical when theres snow on the ground and you see your horse galloping over there field

Hate the mud, especially when I have to get the horses in when its dark and hate having a hairy horse (hate even more the thought of trying to clip him - if he needs doing this year he'll definately be doped!). Also hate my horse being much sharper than in summer.
Love the fact that the kids don't go to the yard between October and April so my friend and I have the place to ourselves.

Love the fact there are no insects
Love it when horses are sharper....

HATE the dark evenings! If it was light in winter I would rather it was winter all year round, but I can't stand the dark nights

Winter is a pain in the bum!!
The only good thing about it is that my boy is in an internal barn stable, so i can shut the main door and stay dry in the awful weather.
Hate that i can't hack out as often, but at least i will have to school, something i don't do enough of in the summer.
The dark nights depress the crap out of me, as do the mornings.
Muddy legs and wet rugs are also horrible.
But apart from that it's OK

Apart from dark evenings doubt I'll notice the difference this year. Just as much mud and cool weather this summer. At least I won't be expecting it to be sunny in winter!

Love late winter/early spring - days getting a bit longer, crisp cold mornings when you can see the horses breath, no flies, early lambs in the fields. Hate dark cold work mornings!!

no, I loathe winter AND summer

I am a spring and autumn girl! The temperature is just nice, ground is usually about right, no flies, it's not baking hot, and it's not too cold that you can't feel your feet or fingers when you ride.

I like the first week of winter when the horses come in, then I hate it for the next 5 months. Mine stays out as long as possible - didn't come in til January this year!

Me too! I am already struggling with it not getting light until about 6am so god knows what I will be like in December..

However, I love it around February time, can just squeeze in a ride before work, spring on it's way and the hunt meets nearby

My horses are the only thing that would get me tracking through thick deep clay like mud with warter hay and feed at 6 am before i go to work to so i can pay to keep them.

PS any of people who like cliping live on bucks /oxon borders and want a couple of extra horse to do, just for fun let me know!!!!

no, sorry, i hate it! i hate the cold, i hate the mud, i hate traipsing up and down the fields with hay, i hate clipping, and driving the horsebox on icy roads and in high winds. i particularly detest snow. it's only good for skiing on, not much chance of that in the fens.

the only nice thing about winter is starting out with lots of layers on and working up a sweat doing yard duties, and someone coming along being really impressed by how tough i look, out on a freezing day in a t-shirt! oh, and finishing the yard at 4pm instead of 8pm in the summer... that's quite nice.
oh, and no eventing. how much worse could it get?

Its nice to see that Im not the only odd bod around!

I love the winter when I can start the morning feeds at 7.30/8 instead of 5 o bloody clock in the morning! I love all the horsey bit etc but love the prospect of finishing up then coming upstairs to a lovely warm wood heated house and a hot shower

I roast chestnuts on the wood stove and watch the new episodes of ' Doc House ', 'CSI' and co

I love winter. Absolutely LOVE it.

For me it's the early mornings, I get up before the kids, go and do their pony for them and enjoy that quiet time. Walking across the yard and seeing that little muzzle poking over the door (he can't quite get his head over) and hearing him whinny at me. Giving him his breakfast and a quick groom / rug change etc.
In the evenings getting to spend quality time with my son. he fills haynets, rides in barback from the field, and helps to bed down, groom etc. My son likes to make beds perfect! Seeing ponio's face light up and him get all excited when he sees my son carrying the snackball is the funniest thing ever.
I love buying rugs, and cannot wait to get to a really cold night so we can put ponio's fleece pj's on (they have sheep on them)

.

We also like to attend the hunt meet when it's at the yard, and seeing the hunters in work, being plaited up ready etc, and seeing them return after a good day, all sweaty and happy.
