Does anyone else have a nasty vet?

Years ago my long suffering vet having just dodged yet another attempt by my mare to annihalate him suggested I sell her - I took this OK as she was a very opinionated mare and a real sook.

Eventually I did sell her and passed onthe good news - he was so releived until I told him that the new owners were clients of his. Poor vet.

He was a great vet though and I learnt so much from as he was always happy to discuss any veterinary issue you wanted information about. He also recognised that as grooms we got a lot of experience dealing with all the injuries/ailments that you find in big yards and treated you with great respect. He once said to me after he had stitched a wound "You bandage the horse as you do a far better job than I do"

My vet is fab- so much so that when he left his old practice to set up on his own, we were his first clients :) Always answers his phone and happy to give advice. He spotted Dex wasnt well just coz he wasnt as shiney as he normally is. If he hadnt have done that blood test i would almost definately have lost him. If we manage to go a few weeks without disaster then he will ring to check we are ok. When OH was in hospital he rang him just to pass on gossip and keep him company :D my friend had him out to her horse and she was so upset he rang me to go over and keep her company- always a big hug and kiss if you are upset when he arrives.

If only i could understand his accent :p:D

Have had some really carp vets in the past including a woman who was absolutely terrified of horses and would always dope them before doing anything..

Lovely vet came today. Oliver completly recovered from his john cleese funny walk within seconds of seeing the vet pull up and made me look like a neurotic female:p however said lovely vet hasnt charged me call out fee and said he was on his way back so it was no bother :) Also heard that my little pony has got himself a reputation within the practice and lovely vet is only person not to have been injured, knocked out, kicked or just scared by him! :D
oooh and hes a single guy aswell!:D maybe wouldnt describe him as eye candy? but hes got lovely hands!!;)

Not a nasty vet - one with a twisted sense of humour ;) - once suggested that I sedate my horse with "an inter cranial lead transfer" yes, a bullet!

I thought it was funny but another girl on the yard was outraged:D

I have moved with my vet. He has been in two practices before going on his own.

At the second practice he was at, it was one Christmas and my vet was not on call. One of my horses showed some signs of colic. Not eating, sweating a bit, raised pulse rate and a slightly raised temperature. I conveyed these symptoms to the on call vet who told me to keep an eye on him and call her back the following morning. The horse was no better so I called the vet again. She said that as the horse was no worse she had horses with real colic and just keep her informed. I was so pleased when she left the practice and even more happier when my vet went on his own.

My chap is kind and gentle with my horses, knows what he is talking about. He is also happy to drop things down to my yard for me to give my lot. A quick phone call and things are often sorted.

Would not change my vet, his locum is also very good.

There is no need for a vet, farrier etc to be rude. We pay the bills.

No not I!

It's a standing joke at our yard that the vet we all like to use is absolutely gorgeous and it's pathetic how we all want to be around when he's out even though our horses don't even need treatment!!! :o
