Does breed popularity vary across the UK?

Don't know about areas but as a vet nurse for 23yrs breeds def go in and out of fashion. Labradors are always popular as are spaniels but the breeds I see now compared to when I first started nursing have changed a lot.

Used to see more poodles especially miniature and toy. And corgi's, pekingese and westie's.

Can't remember the last time I saw Peke or a Corgi. GSD's, Rottie's and Dobermans arnt as popular as they once were. Rottie's definitely declined once tail docking was no longer allowed.

Nowadays we mainly see designer cross breeds, you can't just have a Heinz 57 anymore, Husky's, Chihuahuas, Bulldogs, Pugs, French Bulldogs etc and Staffies.

Fascinates me :-)

What an interesting thread.

I live in village on the east side of Leicester and there seems to be a predominance of gun dog breeds, labs, flat coats, English pointers, GSP and spanners. There is some resent housing development in the village and they seem to own Cav KC and poodle x.

When I took Fynn my Vizsla to puppy training in Leicester City most of the other pups were poodle x, Staffy or staffy x.

I'm enjoying reading this thread. As we've recently been taking our wcs pup to classes I can add the breeds we met there. On week 1 there was a Doberman pup, quite nervous at first (didn't want to come into the barn), but got braver. Sadly they didn't come along any more, not sure why. The others were 2x lurchers (tiny, whippet x?), siblings; 2 x shih tzus, siblings; a springer, a Samoyed and my cocker. Mine was the mad loon who totally confused the shihtzus who couldn't cope with her speed, the lurchers were mostly good playmates for her, and the slightly older and rougher springer & Samoyed were allowed to play off lead with each other but not so much with the smaller ones.
Years ago I worked as a vet receptionist and was very involved in regular puppy parties. We always had labs, jrts, yorkies, westies and rotties. this was the edge of west London, with plenty of accessible green space within reach. My favourite was a little mini schnauzer, the first time I'd heard of them, they are really popular round here now, as well as sled-types and spaniels. At our carnival fun dog show I was surprised by the huge variety of breeds and crosses...one that stood out was a sweet mini schauz x patterdale terrier.
