Does breed popularity vary across the UK?

Just pondering really as it just occurred to me the other day that I haven't seen a doberman in what feels like forever. I live in Wiltshire and in towns it feels like every other dog is a staffie/staffie x or a sled dog breed. When I am in the surrounding countryside this becomes spaniels, and jrts are everywhere but I never see dobermans, German Shepherds are rare as are golden retrievers sheepdogs (old English/Shetland/lassie dogs) and wondered if this is different in different areas.
 
I'm in west Berkshire- there are a lot of spaniels and jrts, and collies, but although working breeds, most are pets, not working. you do see some German shepherds around- including my gorgeous one! noticing more and more husky types.

my family are in London. there are a few bigger dogs, like labs and golden retrievers, but a lot more smaller dogs, like french bulldogs and westies.
 
Watford way: there must be a husky, beagle and springer breeder nearby. They're very common, along with staffs. There were many mastiffs a year or so ago, I haven't seen any recently. I wonder if the owners found them too much and got rid? :(
 
I have just spent 3 weeks in Edinburgh, never seen so many Border Terriers and French Bulldogs, they seem to be everywhere, also quite a few yellow Labs and Springers. Good thing about Edinburgh is the amount of great parks within the city for walking.
 
I keep hearing about the popularity of pugs and French bulldogs but don't see that many round here.... I forgot in original post that GSPs are definitely on the rise around here, definitely seems that gun dogs are the trendy new pet with non chavs in this area, also realised that I can't think of a recent time I saw a setter...

All the Golden Retrievers are in a village near me in Somerset, all barking incessantly at the horses as we ride past their homes, one came out of the open gate this week and was actually aggressive towards my horse, fortunately it retreated when I growled back at it rather loudly, there must be at least 10 in just the one small village.
Otherwise a mix of traditional country dogs, border collies, JRT, labs, lurchers, spaniels, a couple of staffies but no sled dogs that I know of, although I have no idea what is in the towns nearby.
 
Chavs in my part of London have turned to Shar-peis, I regularly encounter them on my travels and they are all ill mannered, badly trained snarling and stroppy things. Pugs have replaced Yorkies and Chi's as the handbag dog of choice.
A few years ago I used to see a lot of Beardie Collies but they seem to have been replaced by Schnauzers. I also get the usual mix of Labs, Akitas, Retrievers, Staffies and Spaniels. I see a gorgeous red setter most mornings as I walk to work and occasionally a lady with a Great Dane in the woods.

Is that the chavs or shar-peis?
Don't see many schnauzer here also very few poodles. Seen a few more newfoundlands recently...
 
Every dog round here is a mini schnauzer, a lab, a pug, a westie, or some kind of curly poodle cross (labradoodle, cockapoo etc) which I must admit are all very cute. I've not seen a jack russell for ages but you do see the odd spaniel.

This is in Manchester where I work and also Cheshire/Stockport border where I live. Where I used to work near Bolton I only ever saw staffy types and some questionably legal ones.
 
I'm in Shropshire at the moment, every other dog is a lab, staffy (or staffy x), border collie, spangle or a terrier of some sort.

Where I was in Sheffield, it was lots of staffys (or staffy x), sighthounds and terriers.
 
Lots of staffies, and greyhounds/lurchers. Lots of small JRT types, shitzu (sp?) cockerpoo types
I cant remember the last time I saw one of those big collies like lassie. Haven't seen a Doberman for ages
 
Northumberland is stuffed with Labradors , I went to puppy party at the vets this week .
Seven puppies six of then where Labradors .
( mine was the class thug )
 
where I am its all (working) collies and kelpies. A lot of non working or trained spaniels, some labs and setters. one of my closer neighbours breeds huskies and another has pointers. Don't know what there is in town, don't ever go there these days.
 
Here, in a small town in the middle of northern ireland, is the same. staffies, huskies and labradors or jackrussels.
 
Fairly rural Surrey. Every other dog is a poodle x. Apart from them, think labs, JRT are most common, also quite a few GSP and Vizlas.
 
Forgot to finish my post! In my village in Somerset we have collies, springers and labs. My neighbour got a cockerpoo and it was village gossip for months. I work in an area of London and an area of Hertfordshire. The London area is dominated by small poodle crosses, pugs, bichons, staffies etc. The Herts area is mostly larger family dogs such as retrievers and labs.
 
I see an Irish setter, Bernese mountain dog, several springers, two leonbergers, couple of border collies, a staffy and a couple of mixtures in the morning (I'm just on the northern edge of Milton Keynes).

Didn't know you were in my neck of the woods. I'm jealous. I keep pointing out equestrian properties there to the OH. I'd love to move back, although I definitely feel colder up there.

I met a vizsla today, first I think I've ever seen round here. I got talking to the owner and turns out he's the rabbit/pest control guy for several yards locally.
 
Lincs - Lots of fat non working spaniels and cross breeds here.

Very rural so long of working spaniels, labs and terriers. Don't see very many GSPs or pointers. Lots of pet chis.

If anyone was wondering where all the French Bulldogs' are, go to Sheffield on Eccy Road any week day lunchtime. They are accompanying the women whose faces are filled with dark sunnies and face staples.

A good point. I wonder how many, when deciding on a breed, and when not able to find their Tyrollean Mountain Sheep Herding Pointer, then look through the local ads and plump for what's available, as a breed. A good few I suspect.

Good thread!

We have labs, BCs and spangles in north east wales in the country. Anywhere remotely townie and you'll only see staffs and poorly handled huskies, plus the odd angelic greyhound. Hardly any GSDs except mine but when you do encounter them, there are usually two or more. Saw a bernese mountain dog pup the other day, totally cute.

I haven't seen a Doberman in forever. Or a Rottweiler. What happened to all the rotties? I remember when they were ubiquitous.
 
In the quite wealthy rural town I work in anyone that doesn't have a black labrador has a cockapoo. Almost no variation on this theme!

Ten miles down the road in the less savoury town it's all small fluffy crossbreeds involving bichons, cavvies, chihuahuas, yorkies etc. and what I would term 'big money' fashionable pedigree dogs - frenchies, dogue de bordeaux, bulldogs, pugs.

I was going to say the same. In this part they are predominantly black labs. We stick out like sore thumbs with a longhaired dachshund and a saluki!
