Does every horse have a price?

Well if it came to circumstances where i had to sell then i would, or if i was offered a lot for her (never going to happen) then a might consider. But I don't think many people would want to buy hre tbh

So I think she will be staying with me for now, and maybe for ever.

Been offered a lot of money for mine in the past.... we were offered a considerable more than his purchase price after having him a couple of months but no, hes not for sale.. at all.

I consider my boy to be 100% unique and he'll be with me for the rest of his life

Sold horses before... kept a few til the end of their days... Not everything has a price because you cant replace everything with money

Jack IS one in a million! And I totally understand what you are saying, you told me a lot about him a while ago and I understand why he is so special to you. I know your boy is worth MORE than money to you.

I haven't been in that situation so I really can't imagine parting with her. If I had to then I can honestly say the suitability of her new home would be paramount. End of. If she was really getting on in years then I would have her PTS, it may sound harsh to some but I make no apology for that. She is a special case LOL afterall

Every horse has a price yes.
Although I am lucky that no one would ever make an offer on my favourite one.

We got offered £240k for a horse a few years ago. Advised the owners to sell, but they held out for £250k.
They sold him a year later for £82k, were gutted to say the least.
Although I say this, for a real top class horse (ie. future Grand National winner) I would take the chance that it may break down the next day and keep it. Horses like that dont come around very often, and I would have to be rpetty damn sure of it not to sell!

LOL!! I'm not leaving, I was just trying out Horsegroupie's drama-queen skit
grin.gif
.......but of course you knew that.

Yes, Hebie I would sell if I was offered enough and the home was good. As for Hannah, well in realit yno-one is going to offer anything much for her so I wouldn't sell her, but would give her away to the right home if I could no longer keep her.

Hey, I might sell my children if I was offered enough money. Ok - only joking. But yes, If I was offered daft money and the home was good enough i would sell any of my pets.

Any one want Pudding?

I have sold several horses in the past but Honey is very special to mum, dad and myself. We got her as a 4 year old, claimed LOU for her at 6 and thought she was never going to be ridden again. She is now 11 been to Trailblazer SJ champs and is now affliated dressage.

I would not want to sell her, I would always try and make sure I could afford to keep her as would my parents however if something very tragic was to happen then I would have to consider it, but I do hope that never happens. I could not put a price tag on her, to me she is priceless

Don't usually disagree with Tia, but will have to this time. My sister has been offered the proverbial "open cheque" for two of hers, and has no intention of taking them up on it! However, she has sold others that were not actually up for sale. Of course if she suddenly went bankrupt then everything is for sale. However, we are talking if life continues as it is, rather than worst case scenario.

That is exactly how I feel about my beloved Cloud. She is one pony I would never sell but if needs must then she would be given to a special friend of mine who would keep her forever. Her price is, the best possible home available...and that is with my friend.

Of course they do.
My boss. Homebred hoss, evented him and he took her to her highest level, she loved him the most of all her eventers, swore she would nevr sell him, but the right person came along, with the right price, she knew she couldnt refuse the offer, she would have been stupid to do so, so she sold him.

Ah well if life continued as it is, then obviously I would have no need to sell any of my "personal" horses. Not that I have any intention of it anyway.....however I did have a huge dilemma and in the end did decide to sell my very special guy, not because he was worth a lot (even though he is and they were prepared to pay this figure for him) but because he is next door, I have a 1st refusal contract on him and I know he will be loved just as much there as he is here with me.

Well all 5 of mine live out 24/7 all year round. They cost me peanuts to keep as they are at home and at a friends. I would never have no money..there is always a way to make money.Worse case senario they would be put down NOT sold...

I sold my first horse because she didn't grow big enough and didn't like jumping which at the time was what I wanted to do. It broke my heart because I had backed and broken her in and she was my first horse. She went to a lovely home and had the best of everything. However, I am in the fortunate position of having my own yard and my horses are with me forever....unless my situation changes and I have told hubby I am never leaving this house. He can go but I am staying put!!!!

If one of Tia's disaster scenarios happened, then yes I would get rid of Maiden. She's only worth meat money now anyway (only a small chance she'll be rideable again) but stopping the outgoings for her like vet check-ups and livery would be a bit of money.
However if life continues as it is now then no, I will never sell her. The best way for me to guarantee that Maiden has the life she deserves and isn't worked too hard again (eg. jumped, or even sat on if the vet tells me she shouldn't be) is to keep her. I may put her up for loan as a companion or hack, but would keep a close eye on her. No-one would be stupid enough now to offer me anything for her anyway, she isn't sound on grass in a straight line in trot and couldn't be bred from as her conformation is pretty bad!

If someone offered me 5 figures for Moon then I would have to seriously consider it. At the end of the day, she's special and ideal for what I want right now but the money would set me up nicely for the next few years.

Why would you put them down rather than sell them?? Don't you think they could have a good life with someone else.....?

I have 3, but two of them are on permanant loan so selling doesn't enter into it. If I was in finacial straits i would give them up, my needs and those of my family have to come before what is only a hobby.

The one I own? Yes, if I was offered silly money I would sell without a second thought, as long as it was enough to buy and bring on another and still have plenty left over - she isn't 'for sale' though. i wouldn't be too worried about where she goes either, i reckon if somebody was prepared to offer large amounts of money for the horse, they would also have the means to pay for decent livery.

No i wouldent sell my horse if somebody offered me a blank cheque but if it was a case of i couldent afford to keep him or it became a welfare issues then yes i would do right by my horse and see he went to a good home.

i am sorry but no, my horse is like my child would you sell your child? we would find a way even if it was to put her out on loan (last resort

) it might sound silly but i dont care my feelings are my own

I think that anyone who says they would never sell their horse under ANY circumstances is either deluding themselves, a child or they have no grasp on reality.

PMSL Tia - trust you to be so blunt!

Generally, yes. Of mine, Hector certainly does, Berry is not officially mine, just back with me for his retirement, but then he owes no man anything!! B has a price, it's realistic, but I'd never accept it!! She took me too long to find and I'll never find another like her - I'm not just talking bloodlines here, but our bond is unique - just ask MFH_09!!

I was offered over 10k for my horse by someone who previously had him as his speed/grand prix horse. I had been lucky enough to get him for £1500 as the seller could see that he needed a quieter life. I would never have sold him for any amount.
As fate would have it he had to be put down the following year. He was the horse of my dreams and I would never have parted with him.
I now have another ex grade A, bought for the same amount, for the same reasons. Even if i can't get her in foal, she is still priceless to me.
grin.gif

Outrageous and Bamboozle both have a price. It's not that I don't love/enjoy them, but I only have room for a certain number of 'forever' horses... and I have two of those, which are that extra bit special
grin.gif

Have to say though, that it'd be a price 'subject to T&Cs', in that I wouldn't sell to any old muppet who had the money and a whim. The usual protocol of making sure it was a suitable home would still apply

Would I sell my child? Now there's a thought.......

No, to me they are quite different, i wouldn't sell the child, but I would sell the horse without a second thought if the cheque was big enough, i love my horses but I'm not sentimental about them.
