Since very few get to people play this royal sport. Can I impress girls if I am a horse rider?Should I also start learning polo if it is not difficult and won't take a long time?

LOL

Riding will always give you rarity value in a sport / hobby where so many participants are female. Whether they will be impressed depends upon a) their age and b) your skill and c) (possibly most important) how good you look in riding gear.

As for polo, why not?

Yes horse riding impresses girls- they will in all dewy eyed as the eye you up as potential groom!

Polo is impressive as means you can fund an expensive sport. However its more male dominated, so more competition for the blonde polo groupies!

Standard competition means you will have your pick of the horsey girls!

Yes there are deffo a class of girls whose sole aim is to trap a successful horse rider / competitor. Polo is a great sport cos it shows you have money and is probably considered more prestigious so you would be more likely to meet a well connected girl as opposed to SJing where they are a bit skankier.

Depends what you're after on the female front, if its a wife go to polo, if its a nice friend go to eventing or dressage and if its a leg over go SJing.

PMSL!!:D

What about the men that hunt?:D

men thay hunt (in my few experiences) tend to be a bit naive and slow.

living in their own 'bubble' (the majority of the time) just means they arent fast enough for someone like me who lives in the city :o

tbh, if your ahem "generous" then anything with breeches is gonna be a winner for you lol

OK for the men that hunt - if you want

Arabella, Pandora, Camilla or Cressida and your name is Tarquin you go to polo,

if you're after Maggie, Cathy, Annie or Jo-anne you go to Dressage or Eventing

and if you want Towerblock Tracey you go to SJing

:D:D:D:D

Ha Ha don't you just love a stereotype.

Hmm, and at endurance...is it Norma or Patsy? :D

Ha ha!!

I must say I wouldn't touch a professional polo player with a barge pole! I know a few and they are dirty, arrogant and egotistical. Maybe they aren't all like that but the ones I know are!

Male eventers are quite fit I think as long as they are good looking and straight! Dressage is a no no (too gay) and showjumpers... Hmmm! I don't know many good looking showjumpers and the stories I have heard on the grapevine about some of them... Put it this way, Jilly Cooper wasn't far off the mark with riders!

Or there are the sayings:

Endurance riders go the distance.
Eventers do it for 3 days.
Dressage riders are perfectionists.
Rodeo riders like a rough ride.

Unfortunaetly I can't remeber the one about SJ's however I think it has been covered :)

ETS - thought I should make some attempt to raise the tone...

But having thought couldn't come up with anything other this and I don't know its not much of an improvement...
If you're going to ride do it well ;)

This is brilliant! :D

I wouldn't say no to a polo player I wont lie! I would say no to a showjumper and a dressage rider I think (all the male dressage riders I know are less muscly than me which I find slightly disconcerting!) Have had a relationship with an eventer, I wasn't complaining!

It depends entirely on what sort of girls you're trying to impress!

Should I also start learning polo if it is not difficult and won't take a long time?

It is difficult and will take a while to learn to play to a high standard, also costs a fortune as you need at least 4 ponies and all the equipment that goes with them (tack, rugs, transport) and staff, unless you're able to look after up to half a dozen horses on your own!

If you're looking for a woman, then describe yourself, post some [decent!] photos and sit back and wait for the PMs to arrive!

I'm not too sure if girls will be impressed, as in my experience 90% of male riders are gay.

Those that aren't are either married or have yet to reach puberty. The married ones ride because they do what their bl**dywell told to (by the missus) and the rest give up at the age of 15.

As for polo, can't be that hard can it? Just galloping around waving a long croquet mallet. They don't even ride proper horses, just ponies.

Hey, I have a polo player and he's ... actually sod it arrogant fits nicely....not so much the egotistical! And I'm definitely not an Arabella, Camilla, Pandora etc.!

Hey Neil glad we are in the 10% :D interesting thread.

hahaha this post is hilarious! yes agree polo players are FIT! (i generally have a 'thing' for posh boys with floppy hair though... :o - not entirely sure how i ended up with my non-polo playing, lacking plum in mouth, spikey haried OH? )
also eventers tend to be nice looking (OliT anyone ;) ) but Sjers- dirty gits from what i have heard and Dressage- sorry but waaaaaay to gay....

Team chasers and hunting guys are pretty similar...they'll be impressed if you've got long nails - very useful for picking blackthorns out of their horses' stifles!
They like a drink and are quite often injured...expect a lot of moaning!
Western riders are a nice bunch.. the ones that do it properly... but are usually married with an entourage of toddlers. They like girls who can plait the long manes on their reining horses, and are prepared to stand for hours holding the horse between classes....

If you end up like 90% of the adult males who started riding after the age of 20 then NO you wont impress. Nothing worse than a man riding in a way that resembles and very badly packed sack of spuds. :p
However, 18-23yo males who have ridden / competed all their short lives can ahve a LOT of fun. ;)
