Does no one ride in the rain nowadays

Do you call the vet in every case of lameness/cut/bump

its half term break now for all the kids up where i stay ( rainy scotland) so i went up this morning to ride the donkey as i call him and it was about 11 by the time i went out the yard was dead and all cause of a spot of rain! okay by the time i got half way round the park it was pretty heavey but how do people keep their horses fit if they dont ride in the rain, we do have the option of an indoor school but its at the top yard so too much hassle

how many on here ride out in all weathers i do

Rain doesn't bother me, i have a full length mega-coat which keeps me dry. Generally the horses don't mind either. I would probably take the lad if it was chucking down as he doesn't care but K gets wound up. Opposite in the wind. But i would still ride.

I like it when there's no one around and the world is peaceful and quiet. The lanes are teaming with dog walkers when it's nice. I like chatting to people and the friendly atmosphere, but i do like my peace and quiet.

I adore riding in the rain

For starters, it means 99% of the time I get the arena to myself.
Secondly, I'm more relaxed in the rain (don't ask...)
Thirdly - if I didn't ride in the rain, when would I ride?! This is ENGLAND! o.o

Have hacked out (unintentionally though) in what I would class as 'waterfall weather' ie. think how great saddles are at funnelling water into your boots.... not fun, but not too bad either! Was only raining a little when we left the yard...

Don't like the wind much, but will deal with it.

I wouldn't ride Monty in the rain since he becomes suicidal. He's more of an idoor type (which makes it even more annoying that he box-walks/weaves/cribs!). Zoomy and I get out in all weathers though.

We don't have a school and I am hunting more this Winter so I have to keep her fit. She doesn't seem to mind the weather.

Ill ride inmost weather unless really heavywind and rain,we do have an indoor so don't do itoften but if i have planned to go hacking i will.

Yes, I ride in any weather although I am cautious of hacking or riding indoors in strong winds due to potential spooks (indoor school is v.noisy in wind) so would to the outdoor school.

it depends what mood i am in if i am honest... i do it often enough that if it were to start raining during a competition my horse would still carry on and not just turn their bums to it. I have no issues with wind though coz were i am if you don't like riding in the wind you don't ride...

Won't ride in thunder or lightening tho or when it is icy.

Merlin detests the rain more than I do and will turn himself inside out trying to keep it out of his ears!!!

I dont mind if I start off dry, but hate setting out in the rain

Also he would not like being rugged up wet to go back out in the field

I don't ride if the ground is icy and I won't go on roads if it's foggy. Apart from that pretty much anything goes.
I quite like riding in the rain, very peaceful. Windy as long as I plait my mares very long mane so we don't end up with a 3' high mohican. I avoid the woods in high wind is all.

I will ride in light rain, but riding is meant to be fun, and being out in heavy rain is not fun for me.
We don't ride when the wind is strong/gusty, because since Star's eye surgery, and her radiotherapy/chemo on said eye, wind dehydrates her eyeball making it scratchy and a bit sore.

Depends on what time of year and what is coming up on the competition calendar

In the winter, if it is lashing down and windy then I'm not riding - like others have said, it's supposed to be fun!

If it's summer and I have an event coming up then horse needs to be kept fit so out we go. I prefer to hack than school if the weather is grotty, but we do have to practice rain-dressage too in case it is peeing down at a show.

I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands and I ride in any weather. Often in the winter it is very wet and windy and I quite enjoy it. Just as well as we are relocating to Scotland next week.

no school so try to plan horses day off to be the wettest, otherwise if we are home and its daylight, off we go well wrapped,ex sheet, waterproof chaps and a big coat

I rode in the rain yesterday! However if it is chucking it down when I am scheduled to ride I prefer to just spend the time I would have been on the horse, with the horse, normally in a warm, dry stable giving them a good groom.

Last time I rode my old loan mare in the rain though she was lame, last time she was ridden... her tendon had gone in the field after some naughty sheep made their way in and scared her. She is now a very pretty field ornament for her owner who has the ability and experience to look after her better than I do. Still makes me teary and although it wasn't the rain that caused that by any means, I am still a little superstitious!

I like to just get on with it whatever the conditions, really, unless I can see the blue sky actually on its way! Unfortunately I seem to spend quite a bit of time hanging around with tacked-up horses while my friends look at the sky and say doubtfully "I think it's clearing up a bit now..."

However, did get caught out in a monsoon last year and got so wet that my knicker elastic rubbed a huge bit of skin off a very personal area. That wasn't so pleasant! Getting into next bath was agony...

My natives hate the rain and so do I, I dont see the point in getting soaked, for what? Me and horse both to be cold, wet and miserable!
If Im out and its starts raining I wont cut home I carry on

I ride in all weathers - hunting takes your sensitivity to the rain away, lol! The only time I will not ride out on the road is in fog, but I will ride in the school, or if it's too snowy that it's taken me 2 hours to walk to the yard and I'm knackered (happened in Feb

Nope, too old.

The days are gone when I had to keep a horse hunting fit. I don't even go out in the rain if I can help it, let alone voluntarily get wet.

Rain in winter darn well hurts, no one rides in it.
