it really annoys me when people who have never even sat on a horse before go to horse shows like Olympia

or when they go horse racing!

why do they go they have never ridden a horse they have no idea so why go ?

is it just me that really gets annoyed?

You don't need to ride to enjoy the sport. I've never driven a formula 1 car but I love watching it. I can't swim but love watching, same with tennis.

Because it's a free country :D No, it doesn't bother me.

No, doesn't annoy me in the slightest.

The vast majority of the race going public have probably never been anywhere near a horse. However, without them there would be no racing industry.

There will always be lots of people who really love watching horses in action but have no desire to actually ride one - im sure you like watching someting you have no idea about? :)

No... I like to watch all kinds of sport both live & on TV but have never attempted most of them!! as others have said you don't need to play a sport to enjoy it!!

Troll Alert!!!!

People go because they want to & want to enjoy the spectacle....simple.

This must be a spoof! If all the non horsey people stayed away from events like Badminton and Olympia they'd have to put the prices up so much that no-one could afford to go. I like taking non horsey friends with me to equestrian events,I went racing to a Ladies day and my non horsey friends enjoyed it so much they want to make it an annual event.

No, it doesn't annoy me at all. I'm actually struggling to think how I would know, most of the time, whether the people around me at these events have ever ridden, especially if they kept their mouths shut. Admittedly, there were some people near me at Olympia who kept saying things like 'can they do these fences in any order they like' and 'do they get disqualified if they knock a fence down?' But they were less annoying than the people a few years ago who made loud and rude comments about the quality of some children's riding in the 12.2 jumping, and their knowledge of terminology made me think that they probably had sat on a horse before.

BTW, is the condition that they must have just sat on a horse before? Or do they have to know how to walk, trot and canter? Or maybe ride a novice dressage test or jump a 2'6" track? Why not go the whole hog and demand that everyone needs to have BHS stage 1 before they are allowed to buy a ticket?!

Really?!

Who cares if they don't own or ride horses?! I went to a car drag race event last summer, do I own a drag race car? No... Have I done it myself? No... That must mean I shouldnt be allowed to attend and appreciate the event..

Ridiculous thread if I did see one...

So by your logic if you have never jumped the big red wall you shouldn't be allowed to watch Puissance night at Olympia?
You didn't watch any of the Olympics then?

In fact if non horsey people were not to watch and go to events such as these how would we inspire the next generation of equestrians?

Well must admit the chap who brings my hay, who is not at all horsy, was at Olympia when Charlotte Dujardin broke the record, and it did grate a bit....but probably more jealousy on my part, as I can't get away to anything like that. And I think it made him see horses and riding in a different light-so a good thing.

You just come across as quite jealous that perhaps you didn't go to Olympia, OP.
I like seeing Giraffes at the Zoo - I've never ridden one though.

No, non horsey people backing the industry do not bother me at all.

What really annoys me when I have paid to enjoy a horsey event like Cheltenham/Burghley/Olympia are the annoying horsey people stood behind me saying:

"Oh my god, that was hairy, she didn't ride the Trout Hatchery very well"

"Yeah, Denman is nice, but my horse Floss is much more handsome..."

"Oh my god dis you see John Whitaker take that stride out, wow, bad riding. Did I tell you I had a lesson on my horse last night, we jumped 1.30m. OMG yeah he was amazing, he could jump this track."

And of course the really horsey people that go to horsey events dressed as horsey as possible, smothered in horse poo just so you know that they are so totally horsey...

Your reason for editing: 'Further evidence of OP's level of stupidity' tickled me!!!

Lol know just the sort! Usually wearing boots and chaps and a 'moody mare' hoody, often sporting riding hat and carrying whip..
