Does this seem like a rip off?

Ok, I have been on DIY Livery for about 5 years, but due to increasing work commitments, i either have to go on full livery or find a new yard closer to work.

I currently pay £110pcm on DIY for stable/grazing

so, I checked with current YO what price is for Full Livery, and what it includes etc..

Full livery would only actually be 5 day livery, Monday to Fri, and back to DIY at weekends.
No Hay/Feed Included in price
No Bedding included in price.
i would continue to be responsible for Poo picking my field.

£340 a month!!

Bearing in mind, this is a small yard on a farm, so no frills.
there is a small outdoor floodlit school, but it's not maintained well, and costs £1 for lights to go on.

Does anyone else think this is overpriced? Particularly as it's only for 5 days with no feed/bedding included?

Glad to see it's not just me who thinks it's ridiculously inflated.

apparently bedding and hay used to be included for the same price, but YO changed it as he wasn't making a profit!!

I can imagine paying prices like that on a great yard with loads of facilities, but not here

£4.50 just to bring in?!!! Is it a 10 mile round trip? My livery only charges £1.50 for turnout or bring in and £6.00 for full day.. it's beginning to sound very good value...
I'd look somewhere else, it's a huge increase on your DIY price.

what a joke. I dont even pay that and i get feed/hay/t/out-in etc included all i do is muck out and ride not to muck out would be 10 extraper week. PLUS we have outdoor long arena and an indoor, gallops and a horsewalker...! PLUS its oxfordshire so an expensive area. Me thinks a new yard is calling you!

(260 per month)

That's nearly £80pw! The yard I've recently moved from charged £66 pw for 5 day livery, including bring in/turn out, straw, 3 1/2 bales of hay....also didn't charge for lights in the school....I think you're being robbed....

ETS: that includes mucking out as well..

Thats is loads I am at a yard that has good facilities and is not the cheepest in the area. I pay £1 in out, Max £10 for full livery per day

yes that is expensive, I pay £360 a month for full livery Mon-fri and part at weekends (feed and turnout included), all feed, hay and bedding is included. We also have a 60 x 20m floodlit well maintained menage, horse walker and excellent hacking. Also no extra charge to hold for vets, farriers etc.

It partly depends on location. Its not that much more than I was paying but i) our arena is rideable 364 days of the year and is floodlit ii) some hay and straw was included - not enough but some iii) the yard owner cares for the horses as you would wish and you know you can rely on her 100%. We do pay extra for farrier/vet care, and weekends and bank hols are DIY

without the above, it sounds expensive. BTW what I describe above was called Part Livery - to be honest thats really what you are being offered, To me ful livery is 7 days a week, all inclusive of bedding and hay and may even include basic exercise......

We charge £85 a week full livery - which is basically everything bar the riding and grooming. It includes all hay, bedding and feed, turn out and bring in and that is 7 days a week. They really are taking the P - I would look for somewhere else.

If you were on DIY here and needed full service for the day that is £7

I would vote with your feet and move, that's sheer greed..
Our DIY's pay £20 for that they get a stable with auto water, ad lib haylage and use of all year round grazing with haylage fed in the field too.
There is a lovely arena 20 x 60 with show jumps and they can go away/not bother coming up knowing their horses are checked daily without asking.
We even bring their horses in for the farrier without charging if asked.
Oh and no poo picking ever required!

So they are charging you an extra £53 a week then ??? so £10 a day for mucking out

henryhorn, I don't suppose you'd consider setting up a satellite centre further north?! I want to be at your yard, but the 300 mile round trip might finish me off
