I am looking to buy a trailer at the moment. I found one on the internet that was quite near me but didn't give many details so phoned up to ask for more info about it. The seller was a bit vague, I told him I am looking at a few others and want to think about it and he hung up.

Then today he called me to ask if I was still interested in his trailer. I asked him for some more info so he described it a lot better this time! It sounded quite good so I asked if I could come and see it. Then the awkward bit, he didn't want to give me the address of where it is! He said to ring as I was setting off and he would give me directions? This seemed quite odd to me, I would much rather know beforehand so I can work out the best route to get there. Also he didn't give me an exact tiem to come, just said in the evening. All very vague. Also the trailer is in a different place to where originally advertised.

Does this all sound a bit dodgy to you? I did wonder if prehaps he didn't want to give me the trailers address in case I might come and steal it! But the way he was speaking makes me worried that prehaps the trailer is already stolen? Certainly it didn't seem to add up. It is advertised fairly cheaply, it is quite old but he claims it's been completely refurbished. Am worried about going now, certainly don't want to go on my own and not sure if it's really worth going at all. Is there any legitiamte reason he would act like this? Am I just being over-cautious or should I leave well alone? Any advice greatly appreciated!

Hmmm sounds a little odd, if you do go to see it, take a burly gent with you! (I'm naturally paranoid about everything, so probably not the best person to answer :D)

Hmmm.. Does sound a but dodgy alright.. I've heard of similar things happening over here.. Where people ring about a box etc..tell the person what they're looking for and are fobbed off by seller only to be rung back when a day later one has become available..I.e. A suitable one had been stolen...

On the other hand he might just be a bit mad! You never know!! I agree with HT if you do go bring a nice big burly lad with ya!

It is an Ifor! Don't they normally have serial numbers on them so you can look up to see if they're stolen? (And anyone know where you'd look!)

Sounds about as fishy as a dead mackerel to me!!

You're liable to be sold something which has been stolen to order and/or made up of different parts from different trailers and welded together to make something; which will be dangerous and unroadworthy.

Steer well clear I'd say; not worth the hassle. And why do it if you're having suspicions about the seller? There's enough risk in buying a second hand trailer as it is, without going looking for trouble surely.

yes sounds extremely suspicious to me. i wouldn't waste my time by going to see it when the seller hung up the phone on you.

i would take someone with you.

i do see where he may be coming from though. i won a trailer on ebay and was rung a day later to say i could not come to collect it as it was stolen! he said they had got a lot of people come to look and have very poor security at the yard where it was kept.

tough call. i am too trusting usually!
