Mine doesnt like going up the stables says its too snobby, and avoids it if he can , he sometimes helps but cant wait to get away and keeps right away if i have to poo pick. Annoys me as when we first got together he wanted to ride and i spent lots of time and money teaching him , bought all the gear etc now he says its my hobbie not his, but i feel guilty spending time up the stables and not with him , if only he was with me then i could do both like we did when we both met , what are your other halfs like ???????

Mine OH is brilliant! I became addicted to horses a few years ago (later in life). OH agreed to sell our beautiful home (we spent 9 years building...) and move to a dump with land so my beasties could be with me.

Prior to the move he had no interest in them and just said they were nice to look at but all the same just different colours.

Now, nearly 2 years later he has built me 8 new stables, a 60m x 30m manege, a large barn, replaced most of the fencing (some was sheep netting) with post + 4 rail fencing. On top of all that he will confidently handle all the horses and youngstock, bringing them in and sorting them out if I am out. Also if I have to be in work early I will come home to find he has mucked all the stables, bedded down and watered and hayed them for me.

I found him recently chatting to them as he was bringing them in.....he now admits they are all very different - his fav being a rising 3 year old that I bred. I suggested maybe we should sell her and he was adamant that we shouldn't.

I have absolutly no complaints - He is a star!!

Mine is great, and will come along. However I do spend a lot of time and effort on sharing other hobbies with him too - we're a team. It is only fair that we also spend time together on other things that he likes more.

mine is farm based, so all the tractor aspects of yard work are fine.

He comes to my shows and comps with me, looks after Beau (dog) whilst I ride and will run round like a nutter for me whilst I stress over the horse!

He wants to learn to ride but at present cant afford it so we are working towards it! I know he doesnt want to do it as a huge bad ass hobbie like me, but the bit of interest he has means that he isnt totally ignorant of my first love! but doesnt take over it either!

its a win win! (I just have to go to the ocacsional tractor show! ergh!)

My hubby is fab, he turns horses out for me early in the morning, fetches in with me at night, does the stables at night with me, will carry, fetch feed.
Empties barrow for me, poo picks the paddocks with me and goes to shows with me!!
Oh and has built me some lovely stables, menage and fenced the paddocks!
No, I wouldn't swop him and do appreciate him

ha ha ha - i wish. He sees her every couple months - gives her a stroke and a carrot and thats it!

not horsey at all, not interested at all.

if i ask him to put something up in stable - yes will come and do it but thats it.

i did try to get him come to a show - nope not interested, he did come to fun ride once sat with dogs reading while i rode but only the once!!!!

mine is good.he will muck out, catch turn out,hes coming to vets with me and generally help out.he adores all the horses especially our mini but draws the line at coming to shows as they bore him rigid.he says hes had enough of standing around for hours to watch 30 seconds in the ring.he also tolerates me spending all our money on them

My OH is great - he has put up with a lot over the years!

Couldn't really do it without him ... for example this week I've had a chest infection and little boy's been ill so he's done the three horses for me all weekend as I really wasn't well enough to go out! He often does late night hay/water for me when it's freezing cold too!

Not any more! BF used to be ok around horse would lead her if i was beside him but one day she went crazy when I was leading her in turned on him and kicked him in the ribs, needless to say she is not his favourite horse! I dont really blame him to be honest thou! When he did come and watch me at something me and horse both had a bad fall so he thinks he is jinxed when it comes to horses!

Mines great - he isn't really horsey and gets a bit nervous about handling them but he will happily hold Taffy for me and I've stood with him while he's lunged him a couple of times. Asking him to fetch him in from the field might be a step too far at the moment though!

He likes the whole yard atmosphere, likes to be involved and will normally come down to the yard once a week or so and is always happy to go to horse shows. He says hello to every horse at the yard and just enjoys being around them. I really appreciate the fact he is so supportive and never complains when Taff needs the vet/saddler/chiro/dentist/farrier etc etc :-) And although he says 'for gods sake, not ANOTHER rug' and complains Taffy has more clothes than he does, he always asks me whether Taffy has got the right rug on and will he be cold/hot whatever. Then when I wasn't sure I could afford part livery and have him in at night in the winter, he said it would be nicer to have him in, he'd prefer him cosy in a stable and he'd contribute towards the cost :-)

He is one in a million and I'm really lucky to have him.

My dear fiancee was really keen and spent a lot of money on lessons, and he loved hacking my old mare on his own while I mucked out (!), although she was a little small for him. He was very excited when I decided to get a new bigger horse for us both to ride.
So new horse comes home, he treads all over OH's feet! OH becomes a little afraid... OH rides him while I ride a friend's horse... new horse 'bucks' (ie flicks his back end)... OH becomes more scared.
Then I went away for a week, leaving new horse in OH's capable hands. OH goes up to the yard, collects horse from field, tacks up, takes him into the arena and all hell breaks loose! Horse ends up outside the arena half way up a bank with OH clinging round his neck. Other liveries are in stitches, YO has to rescue OH!!!
OH has now given up riding MY horse because he says 'he's an idiot', and will only occasionally ride other people's!!!! Horse doesn't think much of OH either.
Aren't I lucky, two alpha males fighting over me... I should be pleased I suppose.

Mine works at his proper job from 6.00 until getting home around 5.40 Monday to Friday, he helps at weekends with what ever needs doing, general maintenance of buildings, fencing, machinery. If I am away he will feed and clean out horses, feed cows and sheep whilst looking after our young daughter. When we are haymaking he will work until dark each night and if needed take a days holiday to finish it.

He is brilliant, he doesn't really like the horses but knows how much they mean to me and will do most things to keep me happy and sane. In return he gets to go play with his 4x4 10 weekends a year with the boys.

And mine, although he perfers the 2 boys as he says the 2 mares are tempermental. But he will turn out, muck out, and feed if I'm on deaths door, but I start to panic in my sick bed as he's been gone for several hours and I start thinking the worst. He doesn't mind paying as I don't tell him.

My OH does not come to the yard with me, he has no interest whatsoever.
Shame as when we started going out over 12yrs ago he even came out riding a few times on my horses with me, but ofcourse making the effort can often wain!
It would be nice, but I accept that's the way things are

Nope

but if and when we move in together in a place with space for horses, he will be expected to do all DIY/repair type things, which he probably wouldn't mind lol.

Anytime I tell him about Dylan's latest misdeeds his response is usually: "Shoot him. That's what I would've done."

My OH is great before we met he had little to do with horses. He often comes up and helps out at work mending fencing, building chicken runs etc. He even sold his car to buy one that tows so he can take me to shows. He holds one pony out side the ring while i'm showing another then after the class we swap. Yesterday he got up at 5.30am to take me and Lucy to the beach. He didn't moan once even though it was about -3!!

He also does the cooking and the cleaning and uses a strange thing called an iron
