Does your horse have a favourite?

I would have once said that my mare mixed better with mares but didn't really have a favourite, although she was rather chummy with my friends chestnut mare and a liver chestnut too. She is a squealer and oftens paws with her front leg, but has never been a kicker.

Now we have moved and she is turned out with a chestnut gelding (thus ending the theory she was not a kicker with me exclaiming 'well she has never done that before'! *). He follows her like a lost puppy dog. She pretends to be uninterested in him now they've settled, but I can bet if he is brought in (other horses still out) she will stand longingly watching him walk away, and will greet him at the gate when she sees him returning too. I caught them grooming each other the other day, and when she caught my eye she proceeded to squeal and shoo him off. Clearly there is embarrassment in actually liking the rather besotted gelding!

So I guess from that she likes a redhead!

* ETA- No horses were harmed, just a rather pride broken gelding who suddenly wasn't boss anymore!

There was an older lady who used to come to the yard to fuss over the horses and generally help us all out. She was a friend of the YO who used to ride and was a bit lonely and we were always grateful for the help so it worked out well for all of us. My old boy, who was a cantankerous old git and would walk over you rather than round you, adored her. He behaved impeccably for her at all times, would follow her round like a puppy and would come charging up the field the second she called him. I put it down to her never riding him or asking him to do anything difficult, but then she had a sit on him...and then a little ride... and before we knew it my nutter was taking a 60 something lady who hadn't ridden for 20 years out for little hacks and quite happily pootling about at a walk even in places where he knew he galloped with me. He would still get his knickers in a twist and rear with excitement with 50 yards of these places with me, but with her he'd just toddle along as it he'd always just walked there! I think he was gutted when she moved to live with her son. I was sad, but secretly a bit pleased to have my naughty pony to myself again!

My pony had a thing for a little bay mare in her mid-20s at our old yard. When the geldings were put in the field adjoining her paddock, he passaged along the fence line with head and tail held high (we fell about laughing), and in the school, he would always try to nap to the end where her field adjoined. He gets along with most horses, but his best buddy was a young grey gelding whom he still recognises at competitions. Now that he's a proud two-mare gelding in his own paddock, his favourite is his old buddy's full sister, who seems to adore him. Rather oddly, most mares seem to adore him! It's like he's the cute little round geeky guy or something... :D

mine most definitely loves bay mares, especially tall slender ones.
his first 'friends' he made on his new yard, were funnily enough, two tall slender bay mares.

He likes to annoy and push buttons with the other horses, and some don't like him for it. His current bff is a pony who's slightly smaller than him but the pair of them are just as silly as each other. They're perfectly happy to stand next to each other, they seem to have a game of who can nip the hardest which involves the pair of them nipping each other until someone squeals, then starting over. They stand and groom each other too and in turn out will race each other and play games, complete bromance and my boy is definitely the ringleader when it comes to trouble! They're not overly attached to each other either, which is definitely an added benefit as they will keep each other amused without panicking if one leaves.

GrayMo is obsessed with Shetlands! When I brought him home from work he was petrified of them, now he won't leave he ruddy things alone! On the plus side I am one of the few ex-racers in the ring that doesn't spook at them when they are at the side of the ring lol!
