I know this shouldn't be in this Forum, but it relates to the post about the child being killed by the dog.

Can you please answer this poll truthfully - no biased here just because of your stance on the previous thread. Thank you.

I was bitten on the arm by a friends dog (GSD x Lab), whilst stood at her doorstep.

I was also bitten on the foot by a GSD whilst hacking, horse was bitten too.

Interestingly both were rescues.

EDT - Tia I hit home/garden instead of both in bottom poll as forgot about the 2nd bite initially!!!!

When I was about 5 I was bitten just below my left eye by a small terrier at a private summer party. I required several stitches and I still have a very visible scar. I was also bitten on the leg by a German Shepherd x about 2 years ago when I was out hacking with Castle.

That's okay - I made a mistake whilst writing this poll anyway, LOL!! Mean't to allow people to press all buttons on the last question.

I was bit my a great dane, got my arm and wouldnt let go, it didnt hurt because I had a bid jacket on and she was only playing. Also been bit my a few snappy little dogs.

Thankfully I've never been bitten by a dog - however, I know several people who have, and the incidents always occurred in someone's home, garden or yard.

I was bitten in my own yard by a rescued spaniel, NEVER by the rescued Rottie, the JRT's, Two rescued collies, the rescue lab dog, the two epileptic labs (one blind), and numerous 'normal' labs. The Spaniel also attacked the other dogs, who did not retaliate. We did not have all these dogs at the same time!

I was bitten by a small terrier - on the ankle, when I was about 9.

The dog lived in the house next door to our stable/field and it used to come running out at me (across the field) yapping - for all that it was a small thing I was actually quite scared. The bite was nasty - he meant it - and I do have a scar.

Separately my horse kicked a Staffy out on a hack because it woas round her heels - I was mortified - dog was unconcious for a few seconds but then was ok. Fortunately the owner realised it was not my fault - but it could have been very different!

[/ QUOTE ] It is amazing how many people will let their dogs round around a strange horse's legs! We were out hacking and a local horse-owner was walking his dog and let his dog go right behind my daughter's pony's heels! I knew that the pony had hunted a lot and was likely to be fine, but he didn't know that and the dog could have been seriously injured if the pony had objected.

Had dogs all my life and not been bitten. Well except puppy biting which I didnt count!
And most were rescue dogs of the GSD variety!

But Ive been bitten by horses!!!!!!

I've been bitten a few times - thankfully nothing too serious. I put in a public place but all times have been at work (so strictly speaking not a public place) - its a bit of a hazard of the job! The only serious bite I've every had was actually from a cat which left me off work for several days.

I was bitten on the nose by a JRT. I had sat on the passenger seat of my friends car. She said to not turn round to the dog as he'd bite. I turned round and he did..

I was bitten by my own beloved dog at home about 8 months ago. She was asleep on the sofa next to me after a very long beach walk and a stressy weekend with a house full of visitors. I leant over to cuddle her, startled her and got a snap in the face. My nostril got cut right though although thankfully it was in the crease where nose meets face so didn't scar.

It absolutely devastated me, I remember posting on here about it in a terrible state, so upset

I don't think ANY dog can ever be trusted 100%

I have been bitten twice. Once by the evil westie my instructor used to own. The other time was by our own little star of a dog Jordan (I still think about him a lot). He was a rescue and was very fear agressive. At 9yo I should have known better than to push him. Would usually have. Was totally my fault.

I was bitten by my mums' best friends dog when i was younger. She (the dog) was pregnant at the time and it made her crazy! She just lunged at me when i walked through the front door. She had never bitten anyone before, but went on to bite several people after me, so the owner passed her on to a lady who understood behavioural problems.
I have never been scared of dogs though.

Bitten by a rotti, i was 5 or six played bit too rough with him, weiremaner when i was 15, both in public places (got scar from Weiremaner) and my parent's basset when i was a toddler at home.

None too serious and they were part of rough tumble play. and i still love dogs (i own a JRT)

The only time I was bitten was when my dog was a puppy and we played on the swings, for some reason he hated it and used to jump up at us and snap, got my arse bitten...wasn't done in agression just playing I think.
I however almost got my arm bitten when I was young, I was with my friend and her mum walking home from school, went past the shop where a cute dog was tied up went to stroke it and it suddenly went for my arm in a rather vicious manner, never stroked a random dog on it's own since.

My brother however was bitten on the fact by a pit bull terrier. The dog was owned by a family with one child my brothers age (4) and one younger, just playing nicley (not with the dog) when the dog came over and bit his face.

Bitten by one of my collies when she was fighting with one of my terriers - when he came here at first he was fighting with her until I got him neutered (they've settled down now). I got my arm between them trying to separate them and got bitten on the forearm. Didn't make an issue of it as bite was not intended for human and they are very friendly dogs with people.

Having said that, I am fanatically careful about keeping my dogs (I have 4) away from people when out in public. I take them walking in the most out of the way places I can find and truss them all up if there is anyone around. Just not worth the risk. Apart from risk of dog being PTS if any incident happens you'ld have the **** sued off you in this country.

I think I would describe my bite as being savaged

I foolishly tried to part 3 German Shepherds attacking a small colli...I did manage to get them parted...at the expense of 2 savaged hands...lots of stitches and blood

The dogs did not mean to bite me....but my hands were in the way of their fight

I have since been bitten twice by cats...once whilst catching a rather angry ferral and once at work...I can tell you...the cat bite...hurt a whole lot more

But if you take my three bites as an example Fee_Fee, twice at home both by collies, children and dogs don't mix so I feel my parents were irresponsible in that case.

The third was more serious and I spent nearly a week in hospital and nearly lost an eye. We were playing tag in the school playground before school and a mother brought her collie to school to drop off her children, I must have been running (I don't remember much) and the dog must have grabbed me, in which case its the fault of the owner and NOT the animal again!

When I was 2 I was in my push chair at a Danish Zoo eating an ice cream. My mum turned round as I was strangely quiet and a huge German Shepard had my face in its mouth - I still have the scars under my chin and over my eye where some of its teeth punctured the skin.

The dog however did NOT attack me - it went for the ice Cream the same time I did, and it released me after and did not growl/go for me etc. I am still a bit funny about German Shepard's tho.

My friends Jack Russel attacked me and my ex and my old dog at my parents once as my dog was playing football with ex, JR wanted the ball and my wee dog complained when she took it so the JR tore into my dog and my ex and I got bitten when it went for us when we tried to separate them - ex eventually did and I learnt that Jack Russels can fly quite far when flung by a rugby player!
I have never been a fan of Jack Russels, as I have found that they are far too territorial - and this one was made worse by its owner (last dog was the same!!).

I used to receive numerous 'play bites' from my wee dog, but we just used to pinch or bite her back (on her ear) if she ever bit too hard. Sounds weird but it did work and she understood that she was bottom (well above the cats) in the household.

And I have had numerous accidental bites from my mates nutter collie who gets a bit to affectionate and tries to lick you but sometimes nips - but not in a wanting to hurt you way and nothing a short sharp smack on the nose doesn't fix.

I am deffinately a believer that it is the owner that makes a dog - unless it has a brain issue - as my mate has a Staffy and he is possibly the soppiest thing I have ever seen. He initially scared me as he is little but square and solid muscle - his head is bigger than mine though! And I absolutely adore Rotweillers, pit bulls and Rhodesian Ridgeback - HOWEVER I will NEVER own one as I do not personally have the time or the patience to train one of those dogs to the standard I feel they need to be trained to. Also I can have a short temper, and I feel that would transfer on to the dog - which is why I feel more comfortable with the likes of Schnauzers as I have never met a more placid breed - even the Giants, despite them having a bark that scares the bejesus out of me

I was bitten by an Alsation last Easter at a livery yard. I went to deliver some schedules and the dog was loose on the yard, next to some people putting their trailers on with other people all around. There was no warning sign. The dog barked and I stopped walking, then he ran up to me, jumped up and bit me on the arm. It drew blood, but I was so surprised and shocked. Then one of the livery yard owners told me off for coming onto a yard with a loose dog!

Then the owner came up and said "He's getting better." Should I have been grateful he didn't tear my arm off? I still have the scars, but haven't been back to the yard with any more schedules.

i was out walking down a country lane and was bitten by a adult rottie which was not on a lead and with a young couple. As soon as the dog ran towards me he was shouting and dragging it away- i suspect it had done this before!

Anyhow luckily the guy whacked the dog and it let go of my arm- if it had been a child it could of been bitten on the face.

I've been bitten by a great dane, thankfully I had a big fleece on so he didn't manage to take a chunk, but did draw blood. And also my aunts collie has bitten my cousin twice and me once!

Although Being an adult instructor with the ACF we took the cadets poppy collecting in the run up to Rememberance Sunday. Thankfully I had chosen to do a particular house, v.nice gentleman opened the door and made a donation, his dog escaped out of the kitchen and came flying out the door teeth bared, thankfully the guy just grabbed him in the nick of time! ( I have a fear of dogs since the great dane incident and my life flashed before my eyes!) Ok I was on his territory but still scares me to think what would of happened if it had been one of the cadets that had knocked on his door and he hadn't been so quick to intervene?!?

My friend from college got bitten by a Rotweiller on her way to the bus, it was off the lead and it started to chase her, bit her arm very badly. Cannot believe that a dog capable of doing that was off the lead in the first place!!!!
