Have had GSDs all my life. Have been bitten twice, once by a long coated chihuahua, owned by us and he bit several people, and once by a rescue collie, also owned by us and was the only dog I hve ever owned who I was wary of, but he had had a very bad start in life.

my sister got bitten by a loose rotweiller whilst out in the woods on a nature walk - the bloke who owned it wasn't sorry at all and was very aggressive towards her - it had her whole thigh in its mouth! it tore her jeans and drew blood - the police followed it up with no success.

I have been bitten 8

times

6 times by my sisters JRXWestie, both at home, and out on walks

once by my terrier, at home, in our field

and once by my pomeranian *sniggers* in our garden

I have never known a "vicious" dog breed to bite. My friend had GSDs and they were lovely

would trust them over my sisters dog anyday

and my cousins dog was pts for biting, it was a lab

I have been bitten twice, both times by Border Collies, one owned by a Local Obediemce dog trainer. Both occasions out on Public Roads.

I was attacked by a friend's rescue GSD. It ran over to me, knocked me down, took hold of my leg and shook me from side to side.

OH has also been bitten by a friend's GSD. It was old, and going deaf and he bent down to give him a pat. Dog lunged and bit above his eye nearly taking off his eyelid. As the dog's health was going downhill and the friend had small children the dog was PTS at home a few days later.

Several times actually.
The worst injury was when I was head girl at a yard and the owners went away asking me to post their letters through their cottage door after sorting them at the main house. I walked over to the cottage, wearing a hooded coat a it was raining, and their collie (Lassie type) bit me firmly on the bum, drawing blood and giving a wound that required four stitches.. I've never liked the breed or dogs called Rufus since..
smirk.gif
He didn't recognise me in the coat and thought I was an intruder.
Then there was the little stray I rescued in next door's garden, he was exhausted and hungry and I took him some food and water after calling the RSPCA, he ate a mouthful then jumped at me and bit my leg.. ungrateful little basket..
Most scary was when I was a dog trainer, I was given the pet class and a small chap came strutting in with the biggest GSD ever seen. It was very agressive towards everyone and at one point he told me not to point at the class because his dog didn't like anyone looking at it. I explained it was there to get used to things like that, and carried on. the following week we were learning heelwork and he couldn't get his footwork right on the right turns, so I took the dog off him (normal procedure when demo-ing) to show him and walked off. I'd only gone three strides when it leapt at me and attacked. I tried to hold it up away from me but stood up it was as tall as me, so I dived under a pile of chairs in the hall and yelled at him to grab it..
He was scared of it and left the thing biting me until my husband rushed in, grabbed it and choked it until it let go of me.
We banned him from the club and later heard it had been pts after attacking various neighbours when he walked it.. Poor dog, it was the chap's fault not the dog, he actively encouraged it to be fierce.
I lost my bottle after the incident and stopped teaching any but the competition class, where I knew no nasty dogs would be..
Reading most of the reports re vicious dogs it seems they are kept under exercised , shut in small gardens or backyards and fed lots of meat..
All of which are recipes for disaster if you want to have a hyper agressive dog .
I doubt many folk have any idea how little meat a dog actually needs, or how much excercise.. Rottweillers used to compete in obedience with great success, and were a lot less nasty than many border collies, they just need loads of exercise and firm handling.

Bitten a fair few times. Worst one was a German Shepherd that ran up to my husband and myself and just took hold of my hand and bit it!
My own dog only ever mouthed me so so so gently as a puppy. If he was playing and felt flesh he would look mortified and stop the game, we taught him to mouth gently as a pup and it stayed with him. However even when he was viciously attacked by other dogs he never bit them back. His method was, if absolutely trapped to break free, turn and head toss the opponent into oblivion which worked quite well with no injury! Was really odd to see as we had never encountered this but apparently it's quite common as a show of strength!

Dozens of times

by various breeds both big, small and in between, goes with the territory when you work/train with dogs.

IMHO no vicious breeds, just misguided owners who create larger problems. People should require a license to keep dogs and horses to show they have a basic understanding of canine and equine behaviour and basic needs.

Once. I used to exercise a shetland sheepdog for it's owner. Terribly dumb animal, but nice enough. It was a couple of metres back from it's ball, which I bent down to pick up - before I knew it he'd just latched onto my wrist.

That's the only time though.

This thread reminds me of when a close friend of mine was attacked by a Bouvier des Flandres, at a friends house. Her entire arm was savaged, and she has terrible scars on her face. Thank god she was on the stairs above it. It was PTS after a long, drawn out argument between the families.

I've been bitten by my retriever a couple of times. First time was quite a nasty one on my ear when I was playing with her (playfighting basically) when I was about 6 and she was about 1 and got a bit over enthusiastic. Second time we were playing tug of war and she jumped forward to get a better grip and accidentally caught my wrist (only had a tiny cut and it wasn't serious)

Neither of them were malicious at all and both times as soon as she realised I was hurt she calmed and started licking me lol and I do and always have trusted her with my life.

Bitten at work by customers Alsation. The owner was a complete to55er, had wound the dog up over the years, so it became agressive. It lunged at me in an enlcosed space and bit my leg, not badly but I was very shocked.

What shocked me more was that he then went out into the workshop, and was laughing with all the men there about how his dog had bitten me. One of the men came into the office and started trying to rib me about it - I just eyeballed him, and said that where the dog had bitten me was the same height as his sons face - and was he OK with that? I then reported it to the Police, as I knew it hadn't been the only incident with that dog. Police informed him that one more incident and the dog would be put down. Classic case of re-home the dog and put down the owner.

I was bitten by my friend's weimeraner (sp?) and I think it might've needed a stitch but the owners played it down and said I provoked it, which I don't think I did. Also by a dachsund who actually only gave me a warning snap, and in THAT situation I think it wasn't entirely undeserved.

Actually, I've just remembered that only the other day I came across a pupil of mine and his little brother, who is 3. The little boy had stitches in his face and his eye had swollen shut. He told me his neighbour's dog had bit him. I was horrified. I didn't like to ask an 8-year old if they'd PTS the dog, but I really, REALLY hope they did!

My SIL's thoroughly spoiled Springer bit me - which was considered a huge laugh by all my in-laws. It then went on to bite my 2 year old nephew in the face so that he had to spend time in hospital and some 18 years later still has the scars. SIL refused to have the dog pts (poor darling didn't mean to do it) and as it was family (her nephew too - not her son) it survived for some months more until it bit her and even then it was a struggle to get her to realise that he was getting dangerous. The crunch came when her brother was out with the dog and it went for another child. Luckily he was quick enough to pull the dog back as it lunged but he then insisted that the dog was pts.

Also been bitten by my aunt's Schnauzer and, most scarily, was jumped on by a loose GSD on a towpath which jumped up at my face and bit my hand as I put it up to fend it off. I now find loose dogs running towards me fairly frightening.

Like a couple of other people my worst bite has been from a cat I was trying to help. He was badly injured (front leg partially degloved and paw mangled) and I'd been trying to catch him for a couple of days. When I finally got him cornered I just had to grab him and hang on. He's a re-homed feral and is still very scared of people and he spun round and bit me hard. I knew I couldn't let go because his injury was so nasty. He had his leg amputated and I had several courses of increasingly exotic antibiotics and couldn't ride for a few weeks as he'd managed to damage nerves and a tendon in my wrist. I've forgiven him - he's asleep on my bed atm and gets around very well on three legs.

I was bitten by a collie when I was about 5. It was at a campsite run by a farmer with a working sheepdog, which wa free to roam around the campsite. I had stroked the dog peviously, and was sitting by myself on a tree stump when it aproached. We had a weimaraner at the time so I wasnt scared by dogs, I think I just reached out my hand to it and it went for me, bit me twice on the face, ripped the sleeve out of my top and bit my shoulder. My mum carried me to the farmers house to show him what the dog had done (she kindly didnt even wipe any blood away!) and he was non-plussed by the whole incident and maintained it had been my fault. I still have the scars on my face.

Am never sure about border collies as a result, they are certainly very good working dogs but have yet to meet one that has made an even tempered pet, at the best they all seem to have developed some kind of neurotic behaviour as a result of not being sufficiently physically/mentally stimulated. But then I try not to meet too many

By the family dog in the course of treating it's injury from another dog biting it when outside - it was in pain and not our dogs fault that it snapped due to the injury hurting. the attack dog was a GSD - but not a bad attack but certainly more than 'playful'.

my old horse got bitten by a JRT on the fetlock and attacked regularly by a pair of out of control huskies - to the point that we scanned that field for them before venturing into the field - ruined many rides - and I regularly saw the husky dogs chasing/fighting other dogs

Oh, Ive also been bitten by my aunts boxer when i was 2 1/2 , it was eaten, i started stroking it and it bit me on my eyebrow, thankfully just missing my eye, and I had to get stitches.

I said I had never been bitten but have just remembered, I was bitten when I was about 12 by....you guessed it, a collie. Belonged to a friend's family, poor thing didn't get nearly enough exercise and used to go mad jumping at the light fitting in their house. I got in the way and she nipped me hard on the shoulder. Bruised and sore but didn't break the skin.

I was badly bitten at 3 yo by one of my dad's catahoulas. Betsy was afraid of kids and I had backed her into a corner. I had 40+ stitches in my face and still have a scar. I've been bitten several times on the hands breaking up fights between the dachshunds. Usually I sustain more injuries than the combatants. I also have scars down my left leg where a welsh pony tried to rub me off on a barb wire fence.

I have bitten by my SiL's dog. And it was my own damn fault and I refused to tell the hospital who the dog belonged to - they wanted to know so they could notify the police! There was no way I would allow Gertie to be PTS because of my own error.

I have been bitten twice in my life.

The first time was by a black Labrador when I was playing in a park at about age 8 years old. Dog started to play with me and would not let go of me. It grabbed my wrist and slit through the skin when I tried to shake it off. Had to go to hospital.

The second time was one of my dogs and I was about a similar age. Our dog was a collie and I was teasing her in the car. She turned round and bit my eyebrow - I never teased her again and she never bit me again.

Yep, I've been bitten- once outside when I was walking past a dog (black lab type) and once in my home by my little dog- very much like IZT- woke my dog up and he snapped. He was very upset and hid!

Although i have never personally been bitten by a dog, i have a (yup.. again!) collie who nips, he doesnt bite.

Hes 2yo and very nerotic even though he gets exercise 24/7- we took him to a dog trainer and he assessed thats hes fear nipping, its not agression as such, hes doing it to prevent you getting in first. We've had him from a pup but we had visitors once and from then on hes never liked strangers, especially men. We reckon something happened as our girlie collie is perfectly fine and LOVES everyone and anyone.

Our boy will hide behind me and strike if someone tries to touch him first-then he will wee himself.
Its extremely heartbreaking to see and we are still in training to try and combat some of it- hes extremely obedieant but hes very much my dog and a lover of females, if he is ignored and then decides to approach you then hes fine but obv we are always very careful and he is behind a door if anyone needs to enter the house that is a stranger. Hes never gone for my mum or my sister but has for my OH's dad and brother.

Hes never gone for my OH but i wouldnt put it past him if he was pushed, id like to say he will never go for me but i cannot say what the future will hold. Hes not dangerous hes a complete woss around me and will not leave my side.
I love him so much, and if i ever find out what happened i will have the visitors (who are never welcome again!) PTS!

I've been bitten 3 times all by collies. First time by my old, old boss' dog while playing catch he was very old and partially sighted.
Second time by another boss' collie he nipped everyone who tried to get out of the house on the back of the leg.
Third was a friends collie bitch as we stood talking on the yard, she just came up behind me and bit I needed 2 stitches with that one.

Ive been bitten once, by a GSD when I was about 10. It chased me and bit my back, luckily the owner got hold of it before it knocked me over or god knows what would have happened
