I felt I needed to further my education. I have finished doing my "homework" and you will be thrilled to know I am going to share the results of my endeavours with you
I hope I have been fair to all nationalities in my assessment.
Although the Asian community does have some involvement, the majority of those involved in dog fighting of one sort or another appear to be predominantly white trash, both male and female; I therefore think that cultural differences are irrelevant. I do not have figures to support this theory.
Leagues ahead are the large organised dog fighting syndicates.
The BBC Panorama programme aired in 2007, Dog Fighting Undercover. I watched the video and read the show notes. It exposed an international dog fighting ring, thought to be one of Europe's largest, based in Co Armagh. They bred dogs and supplied them to all areas of the UK. They organised clandestine fights which people from across the UK attended. The men featured also travelled to Europe to watch dog fights. Holland, Finland and Sweden were specifically mentioned in the programme as having a penchant for dog fighting.
I haven't been able to watch the other programme referred to which aired in 2014 on Channel 4, entitled Going to the Dogs. It received 4000 complaints and was described as bloody and horrific. I only managed to see a short clip as the programme appears to have been sanitised from the internet. Apparently it involved the Asian community in Birmingham.
Breed Specific Legislation has been ineffective because it has not prevented the breeding of pit bulls. There are estimated to be 10,000 in the UK.
A BBC3 documentary featured a man, banned from keeping dogs, who is still breeding pit bulls
In the Panorama programme a woman, also banned from keeping dogs, was rearing puppies.
The BBC Panorama programme was able to import a pit bull into the UK from Finland and it passed freely into England via Dublin and NI. The breed given on its papers was labrador cross boxer. After filming Nipper was safely transported to the Irish Republic.
People are also getting round the ban by crossbreeding.
Dog fighting is on the increase in towns and cities across the UK. Only last week the Royal Veterinary College stated that dog fighting is on the rise and the scale of the practise may be more widespread than previously thought.

The dogs taken to the vets are only the tip of the iceberg as dog fighters have comprehensive medical kits; they staple wounds and even put up drips to prevent shock. If the dogs are badly injured they are killed.
Dog fighting seems to involve the lower strata of society irrespective of country of origin and colour of skin. It is not restricted to men
Another programme I watched was about bull breeds being kept as status dogs and being encouraged to be aggressive/bite. They are described by the Police as the knife on the street. I read in the press that one man was jailed because his bulldog killed his grandmother. We know of the horrific attacks on children and the tragic death of Ellie Lawrenson.
The problem is so bad that the Met Police have a dedicated Status Dog Unit. Hundreds of dogs are seized and destroyed as they are unsafe to be in the community.
Previously APBTs were the dog of choice but the trend is moving to the mastiff and mastiff cross.
Although not on the same scale as the organised dog fighting rings, the owners of the status dogs do organise fights between their dogs and are extremely proud and boast of their dog's prowess.
I won't hide the contempt I feel for the inadequate creatures who need a "status dog", encourage the dog's natural aggression and teach it to bite. Watching the interviews of the owners it was apparent that they enjoy the fact that people are intimidated by their dogs.
The more I have learnt, the more hacked off I have become and I hope not to post again on this thread.
