Dog in my field!!

This has been one incident. Nobody was hurt. I don't think it's worth winding yourself up into 'what if's' over.

If it occurs again, and again, then it's time to get worried.

I found a firework shell slap bang in the middle of my horse's paddock the other year. Unpleasant, yes. No point worrying myself stupid over who, what, why and when's.

I'm not "worrying myself stupid!" I'm a bit annoyed and slightly worried as I don't know who or what has been in my field and having had so much trouble getting Ned to settle, I don't want anything to ruin that.

Well if you haven't got a clue who it was, then it's completely out of your control.

I'm sorry, but I'm well within my right to be concerned.
A dog was in my field!

I don't care if it's out of my control, I wanted to post my concerns on HHO. I don't think I'm over reacting.
As I said, I'm annoyed and concerned, but I'm not going to pursue it further unless it happens again.

Loose dogs are a problem, and unfortunately are likely to have a problem if they get in with sisters draft horse! We have no footpaths across our land, but next door does, causes no end of problems, including our 3 year old being lamed by a discarded drinks can last week :(

And I think you are deliberately under reacting :)

Strange comment there JFTD.

If you want to think that, so be it!

I cannot grasp the real need to be posting a thread about a mystery dog which has been in a field, caused no injury, in circumstances nobody knows why. We don't even know for a fact that the horses were galloping around because of the dog. It may have been another reason. The foot prints may well have been from earlier on, and the horse's hoof prints from just before OP arrived, finding the horses sweating.

Suppose it's much better to jump to conclusions and assumptions though...

I wouldn't worry too much. Luckily your horses are both ok. I was once muck picking when a dog came hurtling through the field. Didn't go near the horses but set them off all the same. It was after a rabbit and had slipped it's collar. The owner was mortified as she said she also had horses so knew consequences etc. Hopefully something like that is all that happened and it won't happen again. If it does though that's when I'd start to think again :)

There wasn't just those two pawprints I photographed, they were about 8m into the field and all around the outside of the gate too. There must have been well over 100 prints. The dog must have been frantic for one reasons or another (chasing horses, or trying to get away from horses?)

I post THE most boring and silly threads about Ned and Cookie and yet you say this one is pointless? I will sometimes post just to say I had a bit of a canter and it was nice and perhaps, if you're lucky, there will be a picture to give it a bit of spice.
Something out of the ordinary has actually happened! Shall I only post if I win the Grand National or jump clear around Badminton? :P

I know my ponies, they were NOT happy. Ned does not gallop around for the sake of it and he doesn't get sweaty from just running. I have trotted him 12 miles and he didn't break a sweat, but if worried he will sweat buckets.
Cookie was wary about coming over, he always trots over to meet me.

I don't know how you're imagining me...I'm not running around with my arms in the air whooping and yelling, I'm not gathering a mob with pitchforks and torches to find the hound of the Baskervilles. I checked for cuts, took a couple of pics, put Ned's rug on (Which he was not happy about and he is usually fine!), went home, mentioned it to Mum and posted on here.

Sorry Moomin, I'm just baffled.

I feel that you are reacting in a perfectly normal way to a worrying situation. Last time I checked, you are allowed to tell other forumers what happened to your horses today. There is no rule that says you may only post if you are Velvet Brown :)

I was just wondering if there was a hunt out anywhere near, and what came in was a stray hound. They have big feet and will go straight over a stock gate if it's in the way. If there was a hunt nearby that's what may have excited your horses.

Oh lay off her moomin. Your comments are never nice . Definitely putting you on Ignore.

How on earth is saying that OP should not worry as it may be a one off incident/accident which may never happen again, possibly 'not being nice'?!!

Ok, OP, worry away. I think your horses are in danger.

I do like the idea of you raising a mob of villagers with pitchforks and flaming torches. Mostly because it makes me thing of beauty and the beast and that is always a good thing ;)

100% this!
OP I do hope your horses are okay and you manage to settle them. I can totally see why you are concerned, I would be too!

OH was at the field once when a dog came in and attacked out chickens, who he had let out while he was there to have a peck about...

Owner was yelling like hell, carnage on the chickens (5 dead) before OH managed to get to them...dog ran out field, owner chucked dog in car and legged it, OH unable to get registration.....

It was at this point OH realised he was still holding the axe he was using for chopping the logs....

We get dogs coming in the field off the bridlepath, can only warn the owners that if they go in the paddocks where the horses are, we aren't responsible for the injuries they will get when booted....

Absolutely hate people being irresponsible over their dogs.

The hunt did actually cross my mind. When I went on my one and only hunt a hound did leap through a gap in a fence and then realise and do a "oh christ! Get out, get out!" and jump back out again.

I don't know of any that go past the field, but it could be a possibility!

HAHA! JFTD - That's exactly what I had in mind!

It's not just this comment. I have seen your replies on most other threads and some of them are so rude they make me sit with my mouth open. Yes, type your opinion but don't be so rash about it. You're starting to become known for being nasty !

Yes definately!!

Poooorrrrrrrr OP, she has been told somebody thinks she doesn't have anything to worry about, and that she is over reacting! Oh dear. :-(

Don't know how anybody could be so shockingly cruel.

If I REALLY wanted to be nasty I could well have answered her comment regarding her putting more boring threads up...However, I didn't.

See, comments like this. Are you really so bored that you find it big and clever to act like a bully on these forums? Your sarcasm disgusts me as does your opinion. This forum would be a much nicer place without people like you trying to cause trouble and be rude.

I and many others like Chan's threads and hearing how Ned is, boring to you maybe if so dont read them.

It appears I offended some1 and got a slap wrist oh well truth hurts

Haha - believe me I have had MUCH worse said to me on here and I wouldn't bother by backside to report it!

;-)

Oh, just to add - I find it quite funny you say the truth hurts, given the conversation on this thread... :D
