Dog in my field!!

Fwiw, I agree with HazyXmas that he should be cut. However, in your circs, I can understand why it doesn't seem a priority at present. You could always ride and lead to a show (if someone met you there to hold one while the other is in the ring) if you did have him cut...

Oh dear, i appear to really be showing my age :-( I grew up in Newmarket & the stallions there had to be licensed, but i've just done a quick google search & it's seems that it's no longer necessary (which i have to say is blinkin ridiculous & probably part of the current problem)

This was the quote i found on some Shetland message board " The Shetland pony society in their wisdom, did away with the stallion licensing and inspection. Something to do with the EU regulations. All any stallion owner needs to do is have the colt pass a vet inspection, then apply to have the colt moved to the stallion register."

I'm sorry if i caused you any worry Chan :-)

The SPS are only talking about licencing for breeding not keeping...

hi Chan,
I had my stallion cut at the beginning of August, I haven't any shelter or stable except for trees,
I took my boy to the vets to have it done, and brought him home straight after where we had no problems at all, he is a 4yo, you don't 'need' anything specific, they need to be mobile to reduce chances of swelling, cost me £260 or around that

Hi Chan saw your thread yesterday but computer was on one and wouldnt let me log in lol!

I had the same problem at my yard my horses had been charging round and was dog prints everywhere, it is worrying as you dont actually know what has happened and if it could happen again!

In my case it happened three times, second time my horse ran through the fence and cut him self badly :(

Third time i discovered who it was, turned out it was my neighbours liveries dog, i found out as got to yard to find it with my yard cat in its mouth, feet covered in mud from field and sweaty puffing horses everywhere, cat was screaming was a nightmare!

My cat lost her eye and her tail and horse had a bad injury to leg and became wary of dogs for a while! Neighbour threw livery off her yard and helped pay my vet bill.

so it is worrying!!! hopefully it will be a one off for you hun and glad your horses are okay today :)

Ps i love reading ned updates :)
