Do you insure your dogs? If so, who do you use?

Has anyone insured with Tesco? Are they any good?

Thanks

I'm with healthy pets. Wouldn't recommend to be honest. I can't change now though due to existing conditions so I'm stuck.
Care is needed when choosing as you can get stuck like me.

Pet Plan tend to be very good, little bit more pricey but you get what you pay for. We were with Tesco and never had an issue.

I am with Direct Line, I have the policy which gives you cover for 8,000 per each condition for however long you need to claim for, so not limited to one year. It used to be 6,000 so a big bonus.
With my policy I cut the price by just paying for vets fees and third party, it brought the price down considerably.
However when I first claimed for my dog's ears the premium went up by 25%, and this was only for a very small claim. I have now claimed £2.000 approx for this condition and I await my renewal with trepidation!
To be fair they have paid out with no problems but I was annoyed the premium went up so much once we had claimed (previous years only went up by a few pounds) as it was sold to me as not going up based on my individual dog's claims, only on her age and general costs.

I will keep you posted how much it goes up!

When we have another dog I think I will just put money away each month and increase it by 5% per annum, even with what we have claimed.

Only the new pup is insured. We have gone with pet plan life time so of she needs meds for the rest of her life she is covered. I think it's about £30 a month.

Never used to insure our dogs but after the young collie needing Metacam from a year old it seemed prudent to start.

Tesco are ok for small claims but once you get above £500 they are v slow at paying out. When Lily had her GDV had to wait 6 weeks and 3 phone calls to be paid so incurred 2 lots of interest on the credit card, Bill was £3400. Also had problems on an £800 bill for Maya's foot. Once Maya was 12 the monthly premium increases to £124 per month.
Tiva is with vets medi cover who have been highly recommended by s friend who's lab has a lot of allergies

Mine are all Insured with Animal Friends with their premium policy, Diesel my male Dobe required a cruciate op last year and I contacted AF and they gave the go ahead for the op. The actual op costs £1,750 with additional £350 for hydrotherapy all covered by Insurance and they paid my vets direct within 10days. Ive heard they were slow payers but I had kept them appraised every step of the way, when I filled in the forms I rang them and went over it with them to make sure I had everything covered. This isnt a life policy unfortunately and his other leg is now excluded from a cruciate op.

His policy has now gone up from £16 a month to £22 which I dont think is too bad.

Stuck as my dog now has existing health condition, which is covered by healthy pets as its developed since I took out the insurance. If however I changed insurance companies they would not cover it as its now pre existing.

Ah thank you, that makes sense and is something to consider!

Just moved from tesco to direct line as the premiums went up quite a bit the 2nd year, had a £1200 claim and a £340 claim that were both settled with no fuss by tescos though
