Not wanting to start a raging argument here - so please can we keep this non judgmental - but I'm always curious about what breeds people really like and why.

I'll go first . . . as we have two collie crosses I'm bound to say that I like that particular cross . . . but collies can be difficult dogs to own/love b/c they can be so very sensitive and easily ruined. I do love a good sprollie (border collie/spinger cross) provided the collie side doesn't overdominate - they are fun, energetic, VERY loyal and the clowns of the dog world (that's the springer). Ditto springers . . . daft and clever at the same time, soft natured, natural clowns and athletic.

I have a soft spot for staffies . . . ditto lurchers . . . any dogs that are (in the case of staffies) that good with kids and (in the case of lurchers) that fast and elegant are (to me) worth their weight in gold.

There aren't any particular breeds I don't like . . . although I don't go a bundle on anything small, yappy and nippy - but that's often more down to the individual temperament of the dog and how well (or not) it's been brought up by the owner.

So - how about you? What do you like/dislike (and I won't be offended if you say you don't like border collies - they really are marmite dogs).

P

I adore springers they are mad but very trainable and excellent gun dogs. ~I like any dog really but at the moment im wanting something silly like a pug, french bulldog, boston terrier or a shar pei.

Well I like GSDs....obviously :p and most German breeds, they're good at dogs, the Germans :p
I was raised with them, I like their breed traits, they suit me. I like that they (*mostly*) have an on and an off switch, they are active and can go all day, they are trainable, they (*mostly*) want to work and learn, they are versatile, and will look after you if you need them to.

Other ones I like (randomly :p) English Bull Terriers, Dutch Herders, sighthounds and the Beaucheron.

I'm not a huge fan of Akitas for a variety of reasons, small toy breeds and while I have known and liked individual labs and collies, they just don't do anything for me.

Staff's and their crosses- mainly because I have one
Would really like a ridgeback

Cant say i dislike any breed actually- but would not go out of my way to own a skinny dog (whippet/greyhound)

Like most crossbreeds, hardy terrier types and also would quite fancy a doberman at some point!

I do not like chihuahas, those chinese fighting dogs (the bald things, don't know their real name!) or any dogs with squashed faces (pugs, pekinese, british bull dogs etc).Ooh, I also don't like slobbery-jowled dogs or anything that requires copious amounts of grooming (ie bearded collies etc)!

Hmm, I think I have more dislikes than likes there! Lol

Yay! My Boston terrier and pug will be happy to have another non-serious dog around these parts.

My dogs are partly a function of how I live (city apartment) and partly because the city lifestyle requires breeds that are good with everyone and everything, and really don't mind strangers stroking them without asking/pulling the pug's tail for a giggle (yep, really). These breeds make me laugh every day with their antics, and I love their sweet, upbeat natures.

If I lived in a rural area, I'd probably add a greyhound to the mix. I like all dogs, but while I don't mind stubbornness, I recognise that hard-headed working breeds would be too much for me.

I like short haired athletic dogs (we have a german pointer and a dobe).

I wouldn't have a small dog (under knee high) and don't really like those tiny toy dogs.

I like some hairy dogs but would never own one as it would be a nightmare at the yard etc- boh of ours are pretty self-cleaning :)

Grew up with large breeds but now very partial to terriers. Do not like poodles, crested or very tiny toy breeds. Not fond on bedlingtons either. I like something chunky and full if character. Although if I had another large dog a choccy lab or briard would appeal. I'd never hate any breed - just choose not to own them!

I think I have met a nice dog out of all the breeds I have met, IYSWIM. But there are some breeds of dog that, while nice, I would probably choose not to own. I don't think I would want a toy breed, or a sighthound, or probably a terrier. But I have met lovely dogs out of all those categories - they just aren't breeds that I think would be happy with the life I have to give to a dog.

I always said I'd never have a collie, but I think I could be brought round to the idea if I was in a position to provide a suitable home (I'm not at the moment).

Love all Bullbreeds except staffies ( not sure why they just don't do it for me )

Wouldn't have any kind of spaniel, collie, or GSD, pointer, in fact not a real dislike just so love bullbreeds nothing else is on my radar.

When I leave work i'm going shopping for another British bulldog and a French bulldog to go with my bullmastiff girl.
In fact I've rung twice a rescue about a bullmastiff boy and they haven't got back to me so not sure if he's gone.

I have a unhealthy obsession with rottweilers at the moment. And have been caught looking in at a local shutzhund group. But I adore a Labrador or two or three :) I own a lab, lab x springer and a rottie x

I would open my door to any large / giant breed I think, . Except husky/mal, GSD .

I don't "do" terriers (although you could swing me a rough jrt
Or a staff)

I dont like toy breeds and poodle crosses especially "cockerpoo" they must be nuts!.

I like my dogs to do a job be it guarding, ratting etc but I dont do long hair which narrows it down to my 2 breeds Dobermanns & Lancashire Heelers and it helps if they are black & tan.:D

I wouldnt turn down a Rottie or Rhodesian Ridgeback but you cant help what you like.

CC Beaucherons (cant spell) are just glorified Dobes but not:D so handsome.

I am another that would never do Labradoodles and the like they are a money making enterprise which have no merit imo and cost more than a lot of pedigree dogs without the healthchecks.

Bullbreeds obviously, don`t do lots of dog hair indoors ..so Mali and GSD do their moulting outside thanks. Would not ever go for the whippet or greyhounds types, they just are`nt openly happy happy like bull breeds and working terriers. Dogs should be fun and entertaining, some breeds seem to need the owners stimulis to be happy, def not what I want in a dog.

Well I have a JRT and Lurcher, and would definitely have both breeds again (if you'd told me I'd love a JRT a couple of years ago I'd have said you were mad!)

I'd love to have a lab (a black one specifically) and a Border Collie (only if i had the time), I'd have a border terrier, Greyhound, whippet - have recently had a yearning for a mini Schnauzer(sp), I adore my friends Spaniels, but not sure I'd ever want one myself.

Although i can never see myself ever having one, I really admire Dobes, rotti's, and GSD's - but I dont think i'd want them.

I'm not keen on the little breeds (JRT and border excluded) like poms, or shih Tzu, pugs etc but I have met many lovely ones!

Oh and I'm starting to find myself rather liking staffies!

I think I posted on another thread recently that I only like dogs above knee height with pointy ears and pointy snouts - I stand by that. :p

I wouldn't ever have a toy dog, had a fabulous terrier as a kid but never again and wouldn't have a lab, spaniel or collie as they are too 'easy' (I know they are not easy but you know what I mean, I like a constant challenge, not a simpering servant :p) and too ubiquitous. Our trainer has collies and they are fantastic but so neurotic, I'd find them hard to live with.

Not a fan of long skinny dogs (*ducks*), anything with a long or high maintenance coat or anything with a squashy snout or short legs.

I will always have huskies but the next addition will be a GSD. When I am older and slower I will have an Irish wolfhound. :)

I don't dislike any dog.

There are however breeds i would not own. I wouldn't own an in your face happy type breed eg, golden retrievers, labs, springers ect.

I like small dogs however i dont see myself owning any thing brachiocephalic such as a pug or frenchie.

Love feisty independent dogs with (some) trainability - I have a rottie and JRTs. Not really a fan of toy dogs but do yearn for a standard Yorkshire Terrier. I also like standard poodles.Personally wouldn't choose most gun dogs even though I grew up with the best GSP in the world as I don't think that I could give them the lifestyle that they thrive on, same with BCs.

The only other thing I would never ever consider is a dog that really drools - newfoundlands, mastiffs etc. It just turns my stomach.

I say all that but with one exception all my dogs have been rescues and personality has been much more important than breed when it comes to choosing them (Who am I kidding, they choose me!)

After working in a groomers for the past year i have definately had my eyes opened to many different breeds and changed my opinions on a few.

Do not like: cockers (looks, smell, temperament), Springers (same reasons as cockers) ,Bichons (hard coat to keep and very un-trainable) **** Tzu's (self-important and can be very snappy)

Like: Lhasa Apsos (own one, he is a fab dog and definately not a toy, can walk for hours yet is calm, quiet and cuddly in the house) Rough collies (never liked them before but now own one, she is such a sweet loyal dog and would protect me against danger) Also like, cavys, Chow Chows, Frenchies, Lurchers, Greyhounds, chi's, Poms, loads actually!!

Newfoundlands any day of the week!! My 6 year is perfect. Wonderful with children and doesn't drool that much!! Had her since she was an 8 week old teddy bear ( yes, she really was just like a teddy.....but about 45 kgs now!!)

I wouldn't be without a samoyed, or a malamute. Love them.

We seriously considered a sammi when choosing what to get as a new addition to our family, couldn't find one for love nor money anywhere down here though, plus the grooming aspect did put me off a little. They seem to be great people dogs though,in fact several articles I read stated they were amongst the best breeds for a family pet.

Will look at having one at some point in the future I think. If I can find one of course!!

I like most of the gun dogs, especially Irish setters which is what I currently have.English pointers would be my next favourite in the gun dog category, but like *most* of them.Just think they have it all really, great fun,up for anything activity wise, and of course most importantly their generally excellent temps and non agressive natures.

Quite like the husky types although have heard varying reports in regard to them being quite hard work so not sure about actually owning one.

Real soft spot for GSD's as grew up with them, not sure would suit my circumstances now but they're fantastic dogs if bred correctly and well.

I like most big dogs really although not a fan of *some* of the more traditional 'guarding' types. Some other big dogs I like but wouldn't consider owning due to the difficulty and expense of insurance, sad as that is but has to be a factor.

There are several breeds I'm not overly keen on,but won't list specific ones as wouldn't want to offend, generally speaking though small dogs don't really do it for me.I wouldn't say dislike as that too strong a word and have known some very sweet ones but they just don't tick many of my boxes in what I persoanlly look for in a dog.

I am not a " dog lover " as such I like dogs but I am more of a cat lover.

1 I like Irish wolfhounds I was brought up with them beautiful friendly dogs.

2 GSD gr8 guard dogs loyal dogs / Northern Inuit

3 I also like Rough Collies ( lassie dogs ) love the look of them

4 red setters

5 poodles

they are my top 5

I love labradors :p

I own a chocolate labrador and she is just like one of the family.

She is so friendly and loveable, would definately recommend labradors to anyone looking for a loyal companion :)

I've had labs, Pyrenean Mountain dog, Old English, EBT and currently a EBT and a Pressa X Lurcher and I love them all. The jackawowa?? at the yard is a nice dog as are both the dalmatians but I cant get away with yappy little things and the mother in laws dog has put me off Borders for life.

Like: great danes, labs, retrievers, mastiffs and irish wolfhounds
I don't dislike any breeds really but there are a few that I wouldn't want as pets, either cause they aren't my cup of tea or I just wouldn't be sure if I had the knowledge and training ability to deal with them.

I'm not a huge fan of spaniels. I view them as furry todlers ( I'm not a huge fan of kids either LOL ! ) They are too needy. I'm a lurcher gal. Lurchers are delighted to see you, but they like to do their own thing (run or sleep ! !)

I fell in love with border terrier when I was 8 and santa left me one under the tree :o

Will always have (at least!) one. Would love a lab / rotty / another ridgeback.

Since meeting Caylas whippy i have been trying to convince OH that skinny dogs are good :p

My first choice would be a lurcher, I used to own one and he was the best dog.
I also like greyhounds, irish wolfhounds and GSD's. I like terriers as well. Basically I like a dog with a brain in its head !

I don't really dislike any breeds, but i probably wouldn't want to own an australian cattle dog ( too territorial for my liking ).
i dislike the idea of paying a large amount of money for a "designer breed" like a labradoodle, when really they are mongrels. ( nothing against mongrels, just don't want to spend $100's for one )

I like most big dogs esp leonbergers, mally's and English mastiffs. But oddly not keen on huskies I find them too light in the frame and with a little too much edge that mals don't have. Like border terriers and Tibetan terriers but not keen on other small dogs - too be homest as long as it has a good temp i'm sold :) although might not want to actually own it.
