My cousin's terrier was a mistake, her mother got loose one day and suddenly there were 3 more! The day the puppies turned 8 weeks she was tragically killed by a car, and therefore Titch is very precious to us.
Many months ago now, it was decided to breed a litter off her (please no comments on that decision, my cousin's familly would keep one and we had homes ready for the rest of the litter). She lost this litter at around 3 weeks, and the vet advised us that she was probably stressed.
She was due to have another litter in 2 days time. She has shivered through both of her pregnancys, but the vet advised us that we weren't to worry. We kept her as stress free as possible, and pampered her thoroughly
. Unfortuantly, last night she gave birth to 3 dead puppies
By the advice of the vet on the phone, whilst rubbing one puppy to try and revive it, another was born extremely quickly, and she tried to eat it before we my auntie was able to grab hold of it. Althought I was not there, my auntie tells me that the puppies were black, by this I think that she meant the colour of their blood.
The vet has not given a definitive reason why this has happened, but suggested that it may be something to do with the father? She is very upset today, curled up in her bed. She wont eat or drink unless I put it on my hand and give it to her. She doesn't wish to get up, but she did give me a few kisses when I sat with her.
I just wondered if anybody has has this experience? We were so shocked to find them dead again, and it's hit us really hard. I doubt we will try again unless we can find a definitive reason for it and can rectify it.
Sorry for the long post I'm feeling quite down about it, and please be nice in your responses, it hasn't been the nicest two days
