I have an old girl Skye (lurcher) and year old whippet dog, who is entire.
Skye very rarely comes into season, and would never ever let anything mount her (I tried breeding her when she was younger) so I wasn't worried about castrating the dog. I want to keep him entire as he is a very well bred boy.
Problem is, Skye came into season last week (although I never saw her bleed at all!) and poor boy is beside himself with hormones. He went off his food on Friday and has hardly eaten anything since. I'm keeping them apart, spraying her constantly with bitch-stop, which helps, and the worst seems to be over now. Dog started picking at biscuits this morning, but being hard to keep weight on anyway he looks like a rack of ribs!
Any advice on how I can get the weight back on him? I think her season is coming to a close, so just need to concentrate on him eating now!
Normally he is fed 2 cups of bakers puppy in the morning, then 1 cup of bakers and 1 can of pedigree chum in the afternoon.
Sooo....weight gain advice please, esp from Whippet owners
