Now would I be a Kentish lass, or a lass of Kent?

I'd had to turn down my puppy, and when I did I found out the breeder has picked another pup and that he was going to be mine afterall.

It's been weighing on my mind terribly. I was so excited, counting down the days, planning walks by the canal, then everything went wrong.

He's now advertised as being still for sale on the breeders website so I've seen some up to date photos and he's gorgeous. Absolutely what I wanted from a pup.

Circumstances haven't suddenly changed back though, and I'm really, really upset. Everyone keeps saying "there'll be more" but it doesn't change the sense of emptiness after all my excitement and planning (I was running round the house screaming two days after his parents mated!!!!!!! If that gives you some indication!)

Am I just being pathetic about it?

Have I missed something, is there some reason you cannot buy him?

Maybe it's because we used to show/breed but there have been so many let-downs, missed opportunities, dogs that didn't make, dogs that we missed out on....things have never really gone to plan for us but that's not to say I would change the dogs I have ended up with.

It was dog or job! I wanted to move back down south and the offer came up. It's a damn good offer too, I'd be an idiot to refuse it over a dog!

I am trying to see that things happen for a reason, but his big brown brittany eyes really had me glum tonight. I've been looking forward to this since March, and now he's going to go to someone else :(

His Dad's owner is more than happy to keep in touch with future litters and Dad is only 3, so there'll be plenty more over time! In fact, his next wife is daughter of a dog I have met and liked very much! Her breeding is more of the lines I like than this litter! Better hip score too!

I think its for the best right now.

From everything you have said on here that you have going on I don't think its the right time for a dog right now let alone a brittany puppy.

Another one really will come along.

I think you may made the right decision, hard as it is. As Kitsune sadly found out a young puppy takes a lot of work and if your circumstances aren't right it can go sadly wrong. Far better to turn him down now than give in to your emotions and then find a few weeks down the line that it really isn't going to work and you have to return him. As long as you can keep in touch with the sires owner I am sure you will be able to find a pup when you are in a better position to have one.

Katie and Murphy's Minder - thats how I justified it to myself. I'd rather lose face now than actually have to return the pup a few weeks down the line. It'd damage my reputation far more amoung brit owners!

It's less that ideal times and I do now have the chance to find the perfect house that I can both afford and keep a dog at.

In fact, the whole thing makes sense. It's just sentimentality :( - I miss Ben like hell and Pup does look so much like him :(

Aw, you've definately done the right thing by the pup. Good on you for weighing it up properly.

Once you're in a better situation, you'll be able to give a pup the right start and those canal walks will be yours! :)

One thing you could do if you are missing being around dogs when you come down south - is to offer to walk dogs in rescue? Rescue Remedies are in Farnham and in Gatwick and are always looking for walkers. They are also keen to get their dogs out for the day/socialised/short term foster (where appropriate). It really helps them as the more info they can get about a dog, the better chance they have of rehoming it. That way, you can get your doggy fix at a convenient time and help a rescue at the same time. if you look on their website, you will see that each dog has its own page where helpers add updates/photos and it all helps!
