We mixed my dad and our childhood lab's ashes together, then scattered them on a beach in Lanzarote where my parents used to go on holiday a lot (and Mum eventually retired to!) There is a bar on the cliffs near the beach so it felt like Dad would be popping in once a day for a drink and hanging out on the balcony watching the sea and soaking up the sun and the dog would be with him to play on the beach.

We planned to do something with our dogs ashes but 8 years on she alternates between sitting on the window sill or being in the back of the wardrobe.

The place where we wanted to scatter her ashes isn't appropriate anymore.

Is there no lovely walks that you used to take her on that you were both really happy? Maybe you could take her there?

Ref an earlier comment, it's not illegal for a pets ashes to go in a coffin. I'm a funeral celebrant and have had it happen all the time if that reassures any of you that would like this option.

We still have our beloved woofers ashes with us, as we lead a nomadic lifestyle and didn't want to leave him behind.
We had thought about scattering him in the forest where we lived for 5 years, but I couldn't bear the thought of him running around the forest lost and cold looking for us.
He will be with us forever.

"Can I have my ashes scattered with my pet?
Sadly, most human crematoriums and cemeteries do not allow the burial or scattering of pet ashes along with their owners. This is because the ashes of pets are still classed as ‘waste’ and require separate licensing via the Environment Agency. A human crematorium or cemetery can apply to also be a pet cemetery – however as most are running out of space already it’s unlikely that this will become commonplace. It is also illegal for a pet’s ashes to be placed in an owner’s coffin prior to burial or cremation."
