What do you all do with your dogs on the Sunday if you are there all weekend?

As we are staying over this yr we are taking the dogs as we will shop Friday when it is less busy rather then sunday where they then get squashed by ppl!! (well Pikachue does it will be Archies 1st yr there!)

Is there somewhere they can go on the Sunday?

I think there is a dog sitting service (type thing) where all the dogs can go on site

but Im not 100% sure.

The dog creche - near the members bar I think - will only take them for two hours at a time.
The rest of the day there's nowhere else for them to go other than with you, and they're not allowed in the grandstand, so you couldn't watch the SJ in there on the Sunday.
Is there any way you can leave them at the place you're staying if it's dog friendly?

can i say please, please, please don't take your dog, as it's my personnel hate.... too take you beloved pet and then drag around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! poor poor animals...................

It's so crowded!!!!! and i've seen so may dogs step on, crushed etc......

I love dogs BUT i will never never take a dog to this type of event

but as other poster sasy there is a dog service for max 2hrs !!!, but aren't you there all weekend

Did you not read this bit kick_on???

I dont think there is a problem takeing dogs as long as you keep them on leads and under control at all times. Just stick to the xc course on saturday and you'll be fine. My friend will be taking her dog and he loved it last year!!

Yes we are there all weekend but they would stay with us all day on Friday and Sat, we would shop Friday when not so crowded and Sat would just be walking around the course and there is 2 of us there.

I am debating it now with the SJing thing, think someone on here suggested tying their *large* I may add! Cage to the car for a few hrs with shade and water etc but not sure.

They are 2 JRT and absolutely LIVE to come out with us! Archie screams and screams if left at home with my dad and brother!

He likes to come with us

I TOTAL disagree........................ with you IMO you shouldn't take you dog to this type of event with over 250,000 poeple around..............

but hay we all different............

BUT hay its your vets bill not mine!

Maybe you could google a nearby kennels and book them in for a few hours on the sunday? I think it is lovely that people take their dogs with them and love to see them watching the action with their owners. What is the alternative? Left in the car? Left at home alone? So long as the dogs are adequately provided for I dont think it is a problem!

Well thank you for the thoughts that my dogs will need a vet!

lovely!!

Someone may have come up with an option for me for Sunday - so thank you!
smile.gif

Like i said our dogs live to be with us no matter what it is they are travelling terriers! And love it
smile.gif
They are also very small and can me picked up at any necessary point!

If your dog is well behaved and on a lead then I don't have a problem with them being on the XC course on the saturday.
But to take them there for all weekend is a bit much, I wouldn't do it.
What do you do with them while you are shopping (please don't say they follow you around and get in everyones way...)
What do you do with them while you are watching the dressage?
Why not just give them a doggy holiday and you go to Badders and enjoy yourself without having to constantly worry about them

And how many of those 250,000 people do you think take dogs? Or even two?

Each to there own i suppose, i wouldnt hesitate about taking one of my dogs there i think its a great. Im sure that most dog owners are capable of making sure there dog doesnt get injured and FGS there JR's they are easily picked up if it gets a bit busy!!!

and the dog poo left around all over the place - particularly around the trade stands and on the xc course on sat. is awful and unpleasant

not everyone picks up after their dogs and for the rest of us it's not pleasant

Im another who would beg you not to ake a dog to badminton. They DO get in the way, the dog sh*t ends up everywhere and if its hot they get very stressed.

I wish they would actually ban dogs from the even t the same as Windsor does.

They wouldnt get in anyones way any more then a small child holding an adults hand!

And we will be shopping on the Fri when it is less busy and we arent there Thursday
tongue.gif

erm.....you think friday will be less busy??? We ALL go on friday for the shopping!

Do you intend to drag your dogs round every shop.....quite a lot wont let you in with a dog.

I always take my dog with us for the whole weekend and he loves it. I've never had a problem with him being trodden on or required any vets bills!! He loves all the hustle and bustle, he's well behaved and I clear up after him. The dog poo in some places is a bit annoying but you get that anywhere you go, the park, the high street etc. If I'm shopping on busier days he sits with my OH outside the beer tent - OH hates shopping, especially in the crowds!!

The benefit of staying is that you can go round the shops first or last thing when it's a lot quieter.

i think i see huge business opportunity here - dog sitting.............

I know we're not going to agree BUT i think around xc course fine so long as on lead............. last year i remember seeing some dog giving a horse a run for it's money..........

BUT SHOPPING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have got to joking -why do folk think just cos it's outdoor they should take there 'little pride and joy' shopping - WHAT you normally do when you shopping (er dog left at home???)
I don't think you've seen how busy it gets at badders shopping and IMO it's not the correct environment for dogs. Dogs and Crowds just don't mix

My friends took their dog last year on the Saturday. The only went round the cross country course and stayed well back from the actual fences (took it in turns to look after the dog while the other one watchd some horses etc). Even on the Saturday is gets horrendously busy round some of the fences and paths. Their dog is a small terrier so they could carry him when it was really crowded etc but unfortunately he was attacked by another dog. Your dog may be small/well behaved/under control but there are an awful lot of dogs that aren't.

Yes i have seen how busy it gets my friend took her dog last year and believe it or not alot of people will move out of the way if it sees a dog coming towards them so not to tread on them. We didnt have any problems last year and i didnt see any other dog get in a sticky spot or trodden on by anyone!

Oh well thats alright then.....everyone else can just get out of your way.

Charming!

Im a dog owner, I love my dogs but I can tell you that the dogs and the poo at badders try mine and a lot of other peoples patience. Maybe most of us are too polite to say anything but when you have someones dog lead round your leg or a wet nose in your crotch or your shopping bag along with a nice lump of shite stuck on your boot it ISNT our idea of a nice day out.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i sorry i don't believe you................ as you know my point of view............. and now i've got the stage in life where i will speak up at these event to dog owners who put the dog through this ......................

So speak to at badders
grin.gif

People will generally move out if the way if they can and if they see the dog. I don't actually walk round looking at the floor so small dogs in big crowds are easily overlooked.

I didnt say people can MOVE out of our way because we have a dog, its common curticy (sp?) for someone to step aside instead of stepping on a dog. Of course we do our best to move out of peoples ways aswell!!!!

Lets just hope then Kick_On that i cross your path at Badders and you "speak your mind" to me!
smirk.gif

I have thought about taking my two dogs before , but afraid it is just too much hasle with the crowds etc.
frown.gif

And if you were there last year did you see the dog that got loose on the course just as the french competitor was jumping the fence
shocked.gif
(i think it was the vicarage v) it was awful, said dog was caught and obviously it was a mistake, but still i couldn't live with myself if my dog accidentally got loose.

Sorry to butt in but I feel very strongly about dogs at Events. As was masterbronze said have you all forgotten about the dog that got loose last year and chased the French rider.

At Aldon 2 day a dog chased my daughter as she was approaching the water. At one point the terrier in question was actually hanging off her horses tail. Fortunatly her horse is used to dogs and the jump judge was awake and stopped her. Thus avoiding what could have been a potential accident.

I just hope the dogs owner has bought a decent collar and lead for this season - or else leaves it at home !!!

I am sorry I love dogs but I am sick to the back teeth of trying to get into stands and climb over other peoples multiple dogs and as for Cross Country day last year one got loose and chased a horse around the Cross Country. Dont get me wrong I love dogs I just feel that with 250000 people there its a shed load of dogs and their output and I reckon you are a responsible dog owner but I am afraid there are a lot who arent.

But then I also belong to the club that people who have no interest in horses shouldnt go either!!

It was Jonty Evans it chased im sure (just be nit picky!!
grin.gif
)

I understand what you are all saying and I will re-think but if I do take them I will make sure they are cared for well, picked up when busy, kept cool and out of ppls way as I always do with them
