I have a 2yr old JR bitch and a 7 month old Bedlington cross Patterdale dog. When i walk them together they constanly fight, bark at each other and run around rolling on the floor and snarling!! They are worst when i take them out of the front door, car or through gates. Its getting to a stage when i have walked them seperatley but when they are together they fight again. I go home from walks with a headache and other people stare at them because they are so loud!! What can i do? The Dog has a controller headcollar which he constantly tries to get off and the JR a half choke chain. Its embarresing when walking them

Walk them and train them seperately and try to get booked into a good training class.
Alter your outlook/mood too - if you're not enjoying the walk, that tension will filter to them and they will have a miserable time too.

As CC suggests u need to work seperately with these 2, they are setting/goading/hyping one another and you are onto a losing battle, esp given their breed types.
Lots of exercise and training to learn how best to handle them individually before even trying to manage them together.

Yeah them to bark on command. Then wear it out some. Then teach them quiet.

No use yelling quiet at the or spraying with water if they don't know the command.

We were told at dog training, a squirt of lemon juice in their months when they bark. i know it seems cruel but it works! I know its easier said than done but try to relax and enjoy the walk, keep walking forward, looking and and walking with a purpose, even when they try to fight etc... a short pull on the lead to correct them. even getting them to sit in front of you and to look at you. I know this may sound silly but do they both get the same amount of attention? Maybe they are fighting because one is jealous or so they can get your attention? I some times take our dog out with me when i go on the bike. I know you cant do this with two but it gives them a really good exercise. it really calms our dog down. Maybe going for a run with them? (easier said than done I know, but maybe taking one at a time to start with?) I can see why people are saying to train them seperately but if they walk fine when they aren't with each other then it's no good training them seperately they need to be training to walk together. Have you tried walking them on either side of you to start with?

L&M the point with walking them separately is seeing what makes them tick, what type of a dog they are, and treating them and training them accordingly and knowing how to handle things when they are back together.
When they are both playing up and scrapping and you have a dog in each hand and are trying to spray water and lemon juice in their mouths, you need more than two hands!

I walk mine separately, it's no big deal, especially at this time of year :D winter, not so much :o

If the OP cannot walk them together she sure is gonna struggle to bike ride with them, get them to sit or squirt lemon in their mouths:confused:
The point in seperate training is also to give the OP a better idea of who if indeed is the instigator, this can help immensely when dealing with 2 dogs, and can be a real eye opener as to how you need to handle each dog, with an instigator by better controlling that dog can actually help immensely with the others dogs behaviour too, of course the OP wants to walk them together, she needs to walk b4 she can run and make life a little more maneagale for herself whilst she gets to grips with this.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have walked them seperatley and they are angels but when together devils!! I think they do hype each other up especially the younger dog as the JR is more clingy to me and it could be a touch of jealousy! I walked them off the lead yesterday for 2 hrs and they fought all the time, i have tried together on the lead and they pull and snap at each other. I think like somone suggested they need dog school especially the youngster!!! I couldnot cycle with them both as the dog runs away sometimes. I take them down the farm and they run around the fields which tires them out but they still fight its just peaceful when we get home ! Thanks for all the suggestions i will try some of them to see if the little monsters improve
